Arpanet's 'Quantum Transposition' out 8/23
Sat, August 13, 2005 - 7:55 AMArpanet is one of the most esoteric names in the electronic music scene. The mystery surrounding this Detroit-based act is as interesting as the beautifully scientific approach used in the production of its sound. Gerald Donald, the principal force of Arpanet, has also been linked with Dopplereffekt, Der Zyklus, and perhaps the best known of all, Drexciya.
The new album is released by Rephlex -- a label co-founded by Aphex Twin's Richard D. James along with Grant Wilson-Claridge. If you're in the US, you can soon order through Forced Exposure, Rephlex's main US distributor: www.forcedexposure.com/. The US release is set for August 23.

:-)
Mange tak.
Btw, Miss Kittin has remixed Arpanet's 'Wireless Internet' (2002) -- perhaps not quite as lovely as the original, but may be of interest to y'all... |

New Arpanet
Only finished listening to first half of this and have to say I'm underwhelmed. I hope the second half changes my mind. It gives me te same minimal scientific vibe that the biometric lp gave me. I guess what's missing from these machines are their souls.
What is the Miss Kittin remix on? I'm curious to hear that. |

Miss Kittin / Arpanet
Hey DR! Good to see you here :-) Ah, yes... Just as Autechre's work is often pegged as being difficult to listen to, so could Arpanet's sound seem mechanical and distantly cool in comparison to the lush, warmer microhouse beats coming from elsewhere in Europe.
Perhaps it's for this reason that I think Arpanet is all the more poignant and sharper; within the minimal electro field, Arpanet consistently produces some of the cleanest musical works to date. It's difficult to find other groups that can present such exposed structural compositions with the same kind of sonic effect. That being said, I prefer to enjoy groups like this in smaller doses. Limited exposure helps the appreciation to grow... Miss Kittin produced a mix CD for Muzik Magazine in August 2002. Her Arpanet RMX is track #2. |

Miss Kittin mix
I thought that was just the regular mix, mixed into the preceding and following tracks. The liner notes don't credit anyone other than Arpanet. To my knowledge, Arpanet hasn't been remixed by anyone yet.
