park city fish installation

I broke ground on a large public art installation for the city of park city this week. We dug 7 holes, 3 feet deep to support the donated rail from the silver mine which will hold the 7 fish sculptures. The first two are complete and sitting out in front of my shop ready to swim up to park city. They will be installed behind the old miners hospital between the poison creek and the city park.
More to come...

summer snow storm

so this photo is of my trip home from LIB. I got stuck in a snow storm going over the pass in Beaver. I stopped under an overpass for a couple hours hoping that it would pass me by, but the snow got so deep that I was afraid that I wouldn't get out with my 2X4 truck, so I went for it and slipped and slid 15 mph down I 15 at 3:00 am. Isn't the desert fun.

Green River Community Center

A couple weeks ago I took the saucer down to the desert and did a set for the coyotes and looked for junk for my latest art project. We stopped by the community center in Green River and played country music for the kids.

Santa Cruz

We stopped off in Santa Cruz to see our remote teletribe, Kathy Jo and Jason. So much fun. We rocked beats out on the point for the surfers while the kids rode around on the mini bike that Max won at the Good Magazine party.

solar saucer goes to LA

I just got back from a 3 week tour with the solar saucer to California. We did 8 different events while in CA and demonstrated all kinds of ways to use solar energy and met with many companies in the clean tech industry. Just to name a few of the events, we were asked to provide power and sound for a film festival that we screened on the UC Santa Barbra clock tower, we hosted a dance party on the Venice board walk, we provided one of the major art installations at the Lightning in a Bottle Arts festival which I was asked to speak on the alternative energy and sustainable Art panel and met with the board of directors from icell batteries and Disney Ventures.

This is the third tour that I have taken the saucer on this yr and it was a huge success. We were able to connect with thousands of people and got to see and implement some cool new technologies. The most interesting are a new battery technology that is 10 times the power with a 10th of the weight and an energy management system which allows me to monitor energy use to compare and optimize energy use.

I am planning another tour in July where I will connect up with a couple other groups working on similar projects such as the sustainability road show, Our Future Now and Sustainable Waves. All of these groups are working to promote clean healthy sustainable living through example. We will be hitting 6 cities in 3 weeks and have many interesting events planned.

In March I was in Austin for the SXSW music/film festival where we were interviewed by Discovery. They were there doing a segment on Art, Technology and Sustainability in the music festival industry. We were there providing back line power to several different events including the Red Bull party and the Enchanted Forrest's ARt Outside exhibit. My goal is to show as many people as possible that solar power works and that it is easy to use. The artistic design of the saucer makes it an easy forum for people to discuss alternative energy and of course the random alien/UFO encounter. Since it is mobile we are able to take it to places and provide power and sound that you wouldn't normally find it. We have been having a good time screening random films on the side of buildings and box cars or playing underground music with top DJs in warehouses and remote spaces on the fly. Its my favorite thing to see someone walk around the corner to find "The Corporation" playing on the side of Walmart at 2:00 am. It seems to make people smile, even the cops.

Words of Wisdom from St. Thomas

I hopped online today to find my House Representative, I wanted to let them know that I would like them to vote no on the warrantless wiretapping bill that is in the house today. I accidentally called Melvin Brown who is the house representative for the district next door. Melvin’s message begins with a zesty “tell me what you would like me to do and I will do all that I can to make it happen.” As I listened to Melvin’s voicemail recording I was filled with excitement and renewed confidence that our government is the people, not some “man” who is trying to hold us down, or some big brother figure that is pulling the strings, who doesn’t listen to our words or the words of the entire world for that matter. No, Melvin is going to do what ever I ask him. But, just as him message ends, he tells me that Christ loves me and to remember to read my scriptures. Argggg! I had to listen to the message again to make sure I had heard him correctly. An elected member of the STATE house of representatives, urging me to read my scriptures, on his STATE voice mail message. I love the scriptures, I really do. My favorite is in the Book of the US Constitution, Chapter Bill of rights, Amendment one, where St. Thomas, (Jefferson) urges his followers to separate their religious beliefs from their political views. Melvin has not returned my call but luckily we are the government and we get to elect new representatives. Perhaps Kathy Loft has read her scriptures.

SXSW Music Festival

Sustainable waves from Austin Texas brought us out for the SXSW music festival. We took off Monday night to drive 1600 miles. We made it to Moab the first night and drove the saucer to the top of Gemini Bridges and turned the lights on for all the passers by to see. The next morning we drove to Roswell. The solar saucer was a big hit. As we approached the boarder of Roswell, the alarm on my fisherman art piece started to ring. The materials were really responding to each other.
