I met Sonia first at the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea show, featuring Rachel Brice. Even though my friends and I showed up 5 hours early and she probably thought we were insane, she was sweet, humble, and friendly to us. I saw her dance at that show and immediately knew that she was a pro and a beautiful artist.
I met her again at the Raqs Gothique workshop and show. She not only let me perform, but she drove me around between the workshop and show and let me hang out at the venue since I had no car and nowhere to go. She talked to me like a friend and an equal and I was struck again by her generosity and humility. Again, her voi/veil solo and her troupe choreography left me speechless.
Sonya is an amazing woman and artist and I feel lucky to have met her!

Sonya is an amazing dancer, teacher and person. She is one of my top favorite dancers to watch, because to see her dance is to see the music in motion. She is doing great things for the dance community in Chicago! Now I just wonder when she'll come visit Las Vegas... :)

Sonya is a fantastic instructor and performer! She is down to earth and always strives for more in belly dance. She is always traveling and studying with instructors from around the world honing her vast repertoire of belly dance skills. She's not stagnant or pretentious, making her a great choice for an instructor and performer! As an instructror and performer of belly dance myself, I highly recommend her.

Quite simply, the student has found the master.
My initial experiences with lessons nearly had me convinced that studying belly dance was unthinkable. I had signed up for four separate multi-week sessions in the period of a year but quit after the third, fourth or fifth class each time. I wasn't getting it and that left me feeling both incapable and clumsy. I have a performance background including singing, acting and two years of jazz dance so when I couldn't seem to grasp belly dance, it was very frustrating for me.
My very first night at Arabesque, however, everything clicked in to place and revealed that yes, I really can in fact learn this marvelous form of dance! Ever since then I have left school with feelings of accomplishment and reward, eagerly anticipating the next class.
Thank you, Sonya, for your kind and joyous spirit and for instructing me with gentle but unequivocal command of your craft, your gift; if I may.
Your loyal student and fan,
Caerann
