Well summer's coming to a close. But the tunes are def. still kickin'. So here's what I've had on the decks regularly these past months. Silencer - Drown in Me (Cicada Remix) [2006 Direction] Wally Lopez - Don't You (Richard Gray Remix) [2006 Vendetta] Cicada - You Got Me Feeling (Original) [2006 Critical Mass] Thomas Penton - Everything is Wrong (Martin H Remix) [2006 Invent] Seroya - Beautiful (Noel Sanger Mix) [2006 Coldharbour] It should be noted that the "Drown in Me" single with the Cicada rmx was previously released on Critical Mass in 2004. But with its re-emergence on Direction, including two new remixes, I think it deserves some further recognition.

Well I got a new printer (Epson color bubble jet) the other day. It's fantastic! I'm already making lots of progress relabelling my CD and record collection. This totally beats the oldskool dot matrix methods and by far the hand written drudgery I was doing for almost six years straight. So yeah, I've got Word templates made up, and it's looking real pro. :)

I Found a Remote Control for the Martin Hazer!

I just discovered that Jem now makes a digital remote controller for my Martin ZR 24/7 Hazer. This is superb news! Altho the haze machine already has DMX control capabilities built-in, I just like to run it in automation mode. But at least having some way to override the timer and enable the fog from the DJ booth is exactly what I need. Whoot!

Finally got a new Tascam DJ mixer

I just got another Tascam X17 to replace the one that died last year. I'm pretty stoked! Now I'll be able to set up my DJ rig how it used to be. I've been using my backup Numark mixer for the past several months.

Musical treats and travels

I had a great time visiting Indy last week. Besides getitng to see both Nine Inch Nails and Bauhaus in concert (at the Verizon Ampitheatre), I went to Talbots Street Club which was equally a blast. The music and people were lots of fun. And it was great just to be able to get out dancing again! Besides, I couldn't believe how warm and friendly everyone was. I felt quite welcome there, even if I was away from home!

Jason Karl - Get You / Be with You [12" EP] Full Intention - I Believe in You [12" Single] Tony Burnside - Come On [12" Single] Stargazer - Feel Good [12" Single] For good measure, I also uncovered three KILLER electro/synthpop singles from Cicada, Silencer, and Odessi (absolutely perfect for a peak-hour industrial set!) Cicada - You Got Me Feeling [12" Single] Odessi f/ Maria Nayler - Over Again [12" Single] Silencer - Drown in Me [12" Single] All these awesome tunes give me goosebumps. Now I remember why I became a DJ. Wh00t!

The amps and subs I wanna get

Well, after months of pondering, I've pretty much settled on getting six of the Sonic 18W bass horns for my club. Haven't decided on what driver yet. It seems there's an install option of SCF 600 or RCF L18S800 (the latter is made by USSpeaker, but I'm still trying to determine the T/S specs of the former). Oh and both woofers are supposedly 600W RMS so that makes choosing an amp that much easier. I'm already big into the QSC RMX line, so I think the 1850HD will do the job (that model has been working great on my Peavey bass horns). Just put it in bridge mono and party on with a rawkin' 1200W rated output power. Only drawback is I think the Sonic 18Ws only have 1/4" jacks, so I'll have to modify them all for Neutrik.

I wouldn't readily classify EBM from the late 90s through 2000 as the latest trend. But neither can it be categorically old. Industrial has changed so much in less than a decade it's amazing. I mean even Covenant's ever classic Sequencer album sounds "oldskool" in comparison to today's standards. Yet it was only released six years ago. I've been sort of reminiscing about how things used to be "back in the day", when we had an active club scene and it was so much more enjoyable to go out dancing. It's quite a trip sitting back and listening to some of these releases years later. After putting it off too long, I finally have all of my best industrial mixes catalogued. :) Unfortunately, I'm missing one -- I can't for the life of me find the CD (and it has some rawking tunes on it like Ministry and KMFDM). Ugh. I think it's still uploaded to my Live365 bcast account, so I may grab it there. ~crossing fingers~

Possible DJ residency

I was approached by couple of my fans last night who asked if I could DJ at our local industrial night. Apparently there's going to be a vacancy. Quite a few people have been wanting me to do an industrial night again, so it may be worth considering. I'm stoked, but still pretty burned out after doing Monday nights. And there's of course the typical scene politics to overcome. So we'll see.

So, as always I'm trying to keep up of what's hot in the pop scene, and there's still two remixes that seem near impossible to find. Pussycat Dolls - Stickwitu (Dave Aude Club Mix ) Coldplay - Talk (Junkie XL Mix) I just wish I could get my hands on both, but the second only appears on vinyl (which is not bad, but I try to limit my vinyl to house, hip-hop, new wave, and trance) and the other still has yet to be officially released (there's not even a white label pressing). I get anxious when I can't buy the music I want :)
