CNN) -- They bid farewell to their beloved trips to the opera and museum, the beach and Buddhist temples. They ate one last time at their favorite restaurants serving Indian curried chicken and warm bowls of Vietnamese pho.

Leah Bird and her husband, Ed Wright, have traded their comfortable two-bedroom apartment and jobs in Beverly Hills, California, for life in a trailer on a five-acre Oregon farm.

No longer do the couple hear roaring fire trucks in the street or chatter from patrons dining at outdoor cafes. On this farm, the dominant silence is occasionally interrupted by the sounds of frogs and crickets.

His Stage, the Street; His Rapier, a Peeler Joe Ades i love this guy peeling carrots with the gods now

Somehow, Joe Ades got people’s attention as the crowds swirled by at the Union Square Greenmarket, on their way to eyeing and buying the produce. He was the white-haired man with the British accent, the expensive European suits and shirts — the man selling the $5 peeler. For carrots. Or potatoes.

His was a particular kind of street theater in a city that delights in in-your-face characters who are, and are not, what they seem. For he was the sidewalk pitchman with the Upper East Side apartment. The sidewalk pitchman who was a regular at expensive East Side restaurants, where no one believed his answer to the “So what do you do?” question: “I sell potato peelers on the street.” Mr. Ades (pronounced AH-dess) died on Sunday at 75, said his daughter, Ruth Ades Laurent of Manhattan. She said he never talked about how many peelers he sold in a year, or how many carrots he had sliced up during demonstrations. She said he stashed his inventory in what had been the maid’s room of the apartment.

There were those at the Greenmarket who had heard the spiel, and heard the whispers. “Supposedly his wife is mega-mega-rich — we’ve done fashion shoots in that building,” said Rose-Marie Swift, a makeup artist, as she shopped at the Greenmarket on Monday.

The facts? He was a widower. The apartment had been his wife’s — his fourth wife’s. And besides Ms. Laurent, he is survived by two sons, Sam, of Sydney, Australia, and David, of Byron Bay, Australia; two brothers, Dennis, of Toronto, and Andre, of Sydney; a sister, Vida, of Toronto; and three granddaughters.

i wonder if i can get his spot

I was there looking at you....
What beautiful soul your eyes reflect.
If I could fall into them, and swim in their peaceful black water,
I would give up my pride and surrender.
Yes, I felt your warmth, your lovely embrace,
and friendly shoulders; I was happy.
And you...
You where there looking at me....
What beautiful heart I had for you.
If I could my feelings mystify, and fly
over the mountains to the sky,
I would follow the sun to its natural splendor.
Yes, you felt myself, and I thank you.

its awsome

The Story of Sourdough french Bread in my town

Everyone knows1849 as the year San Francisco was swarmed by raucous young men in hot pursuit of the “gold in them thar hills,” but another valuable resource “discovered” here that year put San Francisco on the culinary map. “Lactobacillus sanfrancisco” may not sound like a precious commodity, but it's the secret ingredient that makes San Francisco’s sourdough bread world-famous. And the story of the original San Francisco sourdough is intricately tied to the tale of the 49ers.

Using bread “starters”—an ancient method of making bread with a fermented mixture of flour, water, and yeast—was common practice in the 19 th century. Miners purchased such starters in San Francisco and carried them on their treasure-seeking journeys to the Sierra foothills, where they baked loaves with a unique, sour tang found nowhere else in the world. Their sourdough bread was so much a part of the culture that seasoned prospectors came to be known as “sourdoughs”—having long fermented in the mines.

and thats the story and now im eating some with butter as im in san francisco my home town who wants a bite.................................................d

RATANPUR, Nepal (Nov. 12) - The teenage boy revered by many as a reincarnation of Buddha sat silently in the jungle as he blessed his devotees Wednesday with a light tap on the head, which they consider the touch of the divine.
His face was still, his long hair spilled over his white robe, and he never said a word.

i thought i was buddha..............................d

Wrapped in red silk and adorned with red flowers in her hair, Matani Shakya received approval from the priests and President Ram Baran Yadav in a centuries-old tradition with deep ties to Nepal's monarchy, which was abolished in May.

The new "kumari" or living goddess, was carried from her parents' home to an ancient palatial temple in the heart of the Nepali capital, Katmandu, where she will live until she reaches puberty and loses her divine status.

She will be worshipped by Hindus and Buddhists as an incarnation of the powerful Hindu deity Taleju.

a real goddess good news for the world.....................d

well all i can say is what a nitemare for people who ride this often. there is no service and no caring at all from anyone who works for this company i see alot of mad unhappy people. thought i would go to vist my mom and take a small adventure of sorts boy was i in for it.well leaving tahoe my bus trip is going to be 1 hr 20 min to my moms so no biggie i think and only 18 buckswhat a deal i think to go down the mountain boy was i wrong. so im stanging there when the bus arrives and the dor open and driver who comes out and says dont get on i have to use the restroom no problem i say and wait, when he returns with a bag of cheetos in hand didnt really think of the cheeto thing boy was i wrong again. well there was three of us waiting there at the stop in truckee ca and he say get on the bus so i get up and look and the bus is packed i see the seat behind the bus driver has a breif case on one seat and the other is empty so i sit right down there no big thing . so the other two people move to back somwhere and then the bus driver comes aboard and then it starts he says to me what are doing sitting there thats my stuff i was like wow ok sorrie im sitting in this seat it was freeand he tells me my jacket goes there so move wowa look out now he is more than tiffed at me like i murded his first born and tells to move i said to him very nicely im handicapped and he could see my foot and say so what move ok now im a lil mad i like sir the seat is free and he said no its not move. i asked him where he says they a seat a few chairs back so i look and sure enough he was right there was next to 300 lb past out intoxacatded man and he says move there or get off. people are telling me just do it so we can go so i do. well i have a half seat to sit on and my leg is in the floor the men smells really bad so here my trip down the mountain so the bus leaves. well werre going down the hwy when he pulls that bag of cheetos out and starts eating them and everytime he pulls one out of the bag the would sway back and forth causeing the drunk guy to lean on me hell this was hell it was and he pours a drink out of a carafe of who know whats and the bus is still swaying jeeeeeeeeez when will it end. this was just 1 and 20 min to long for me. i wish all the people who use greyhound much luck and maybe i just had a bad driver but i think not. there is pics of the empty i took and of the drunk you know i has to have the pics...............d

MY DAY AT Crystal Mine in the desert

The Crystal Mine gets its name from the crystals that were mined here. During World War II crystals were needed in abundance for use in two-way radios. Dynamite was used to blast the hillside and bring the crystals to the surface.

It is still possible to find nice whole crystals in the blast remnants; though it takes some work. Digging and collecting is allowed. You are allowed to remove one five-pound bucket of crystals per week.

well i spent the day digging and walking and the power of the world led me to this wonderous Crystal now thats real energy..........................d

ps getting there was a interesting journey of roads with no signs and meeting up with a old prospector richard who was our wonderful guide
