Not quite as rare as a blue moon, the second full moon in a month. Once in a Blue Moon actually means once every two-and-a-half years.

While usually the red is caused by dust, this is saying it's because of the refracted sunlight. Whatever it is it's darned pretty.

<div>It's home of the Tarantula festival. I'd almost rather they cut art than the parks. You can do your own art, but we need green space.

http://www.environmentcalifornia.org/action/preservation/state-parks?id4=ES

"In a move that has stunned nature-lovers across the state, Gov. Schwarzenegger's latest budget proposal would shut down 20 percent of the state's parks, as well as cut down on lifeguards at state beaches. Of course, we all know California needs to balance the budget. But we're talking about a step that would save $9 million -- less than 0.1 percent of the state budget. Meanwhile, the costs to our environment, our quality of life, and our confidence in state government would be incalculable."</div>

    </a>
										<div>What it's going to be my year? Okay good. About time that I made it big. Or bigger. ;)
Hey baby what's your sign? I'm not really a fan, but it's amusing. This is more my speed.
The Rat Pack. Off to vegas baby!

http://secure.mycart.net/catalogs/store.asp?pid=232024

THE YEAR OF THE RAT, 2008

February 7, 2008 - January 25, 2009 (Earth)

According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of 2008 is a Year of the Rat (Earth), which begins on February 7, 2008 and ends on January 25, 2009. First in the cycle of 12 Animal signs, Rat Year begins the sequence and recurs every twelfth year. It is a time of renewal in so many ways. From New Year to Valentine's Day, to the arrival of spring, may all the blessings and delights of the New Year be yours.

A Rat Year is a time of hard work, activity, and renewal. This is a good year to begin a new job, get married, launch a product or make a fresh start. Ventures begun now may not yield fast returns, but opportunities will come for people who are well prepared and resourceful. The best way for you to succeed is to be patient, let things develop slowly, and make the most of every opening you can find. People born in an Earth Rat are said to be logical realists, shrewd, charming, ambitious, and inventive. Of course, the entire horoscope must be considered when making any personality assessment.

In Chinese, the Rat is respected and considered a courageous, enterprising person. People born in the Year of Rat are clever and bright, sociable and family-minded. They have broad interests and strong ability in adapting to the environment and able to react adequately to any changes.

They are gifted in many ways and have an easy going manner. They are active and pleasant, tactful and fantastic, and are able to grasp opportunities. They seem to have interests in everything and hope to participate in doing it and usually do it very well.</div>

"Bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where I’d heard the music years before,
But the man there said the music wouldn’t play.

    </a>
										<div>Santas of all shapes and sizes.

Santa/ Frosty ticket for 2008. I still gotta find the pictures from the event. And their secret service elves totally rock. Stay on the nice list, or the Very Naughty in a Very Nice Way. That's all I'm saying.

http://www.secretsantaworld.net/
This is cool. Now someone just give me an extra $100k and I'll be in business giving it out.

Santas have been on the news. in all cities. Santarchy.com. Even Letterman had 'How many Santas can fit in a coffee shop'. He was waiting to see if they'd get kicked out, but not all santas are badly behaved.

Oh yeah, and beware the Billy Bob Thornton variety of Very, Very Bad Santa will be out this weekend. ;)
http://sanfranciscosantarchy.wordpress.com/ for the carols that might not be exactly how you remember them. Even better. ;)

In SF we also had a number of multicultural clauses. There was also the Hanukkah Claus, the Hanukkah Chicken and the klesmer band Sex Without Hands. They were totally a riot, but tolded to pipe down on the wharf.

It's funny also, I've been meeting people who don't like santa. Clowns I can see. Half the time they are creepy and that's just the way we like them. But Santa? How can you not like Santa?

Good times.
