well, its been a while since ive posted, so ill be a little condensed. its late and ive lost interest in spending much time referencing my every move on some other blogs in exchange for experiencing more of whats in front of me. ill have time to blog when im dead. since i left santa fe, i spent a month in albuquerque. broke and dislocated my shoulder there in a bike crash at duke city bmx. had an article written about my trip in http://www.dailylobo.com . thats the UNM newspaper. you can find the article if you google my given name "david wray" and the acronym bmx. after healing up a bit i headed to los lunas, belen, soccoro, san antonio, hondo, roswell, back to hondo, ruidoso, alamogordo, el paso, sierra blanca TX and now ive just finished up sitting out a record snow storm in van horn TX at the budget motel. about to head on east towards austin, where i hope to replenish some travellin dough and check out some famed 6th street music. i should be there in about a week to 10 days if anyone wants to drop a line and meet up for a shot of whiskey or a puff. lemme know. peace.

well, i decided to call off the x-country bmx ride due to a lack of sufficient support from the community of bmx racing. im kickin it in taos, NM and am trying to settle in here as of now. plan to find a simple job, a simple girl, and make some simple love music and art. looking forward to meeting fun positive people around town here.

Hello there BMX World.... and im not talking only to the magazine, im talking to the entire spoke & mag-a-scene. im talking to anyone who has ever throw their leg up and over a 20" and raced and still is. some of you may think you know me, some know a little about me, but most of the people in the BMX world hardly know me at all, and some have never even heard my name. but there is no-one in my life at the moment that knows all the dynamics of who i am. that is just fine and the way it is. although i have appreciated every true friend ive ever made in bmx, i have rarely gone out of my way to convince people to think that i m cool and that they should be my friend to be cool. you see, whenever i have gone to a race, a practice night, or even riding down the street, im focused on one thing and that is riding my bike and trying to ride it the best way i can. unfortunately, the majority of the people in this great sport of ours rarely invites people outside of thier immediate circles to join them in after race cookouts or pool parties or whatever. so i have usually been left driving off on my own wondering why people in BMX dont hang out with each other away from the track. if people would take the time to do that they would learn so much more about who each other are. for whatever reason (embarassment, fear, insecurity, misunderstanding, unwillingness, track politics and egos, and unsubstantiated judgment are a few) there is so much division among people in bmx and most claim it to be a family, a church, or a nation. well, the way my life has played itself out, i have been somewhat of a vagabond, a nomad, an outsider looking in on an outsider sport. for the past 7 years that ive been back in BMX after my 9 year stint in the US navy (yup, ive been in the military and have successfully kept my own identity and imagination and my punk rock and hippie roots in tact) i have not had a hometrack, or even a hometown. so needless to say anytime i have gone to BMX tracks while on the road, i have been looked at with questionable judging eyes. so i have certainly learned what it feels like to be the new guy at the track and its usually not welcoming, at least by those running the joint. i have been barked at by so many track operators for just being there when the track was CLOSED (which never should be unless its raining or still muddy from rain) or doing things outside the realm of their control or lack of. its pretty funny. especially since all everyone in our sport seems to care about is growing out fledgling little family, but most tracks "circles" dont make new blood feel welcome. bill and ted said it best when they said "be excellent to each other". anyway, enough about that. what this post is about is an announcement for what i am about to venture out on.Â Â at this moment im sitting in plumes coffee shop in downtown monterey, CA. I have lost my most recent job (2nd one lost in a year) because i refuse to sell out my dignity and values to work for a company that doesnt value my worth and views me as just another machine. so i have decided to embark on my lifelong dream of riding my 20" of pure love across the US. ive sold most everything that i owned, which wasnt much, and im hitting the road to promote our sport, SNAP a few photos, pen some poems, write some more tunes, do some camping, and ride for promoting BMX racing and a few of my own personal causes all while having fun on the road with my BMX. my goal is to reach the NBL GRANDS in time to be a spectator for that event (possibly race if i get there soon enough to rest up) and then my native north carolina coast by the end of october. the catch to all this is im also conducting a defining social experiment on our bmx family. you see, after ive sold everything and geared up for the launch of the trip, im left with roughly 200$ in my pocket and about enough food to last about a month. so there is no way i can complete this journey without the help of my brothers and sisters out there. im not necessarily asking for financial donations, just help in whatever way you could imagine, a warm shower, a soft couch, a bottle of water on the road, a home cooked meal.... whatever. an ipod would be nice. well there you have it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE out of respect for me and my cause and most important freedom of speech and truth, refrain from discussing anything involving this trip or anything that spawns from it on vintagebmx.com. you see i got kicked off of there for being myself and i dont take to lightly to that because, well, I AM A BMXER!!!!Â Â feel free to use BMXNEWS.COM and SNAPbmxproducts.com CROSSROADS BBS Events page. i need your help. i have a vision that once people hear about how we take care of one of our own in need who is making a sacrifice to promote what we love, the buzz will catch and people will want to know what we have that sparks so much cohesion. But the catch is we have to demonstrate it. ALL for one and one for ALL. thats the spirit of BMX and our team competition. the pic shows my rig. this is in dos palos, CA where i took a break to dig some graves.
