about me
I was born on Winter Solstice in Northern California to counterculturist parents; before there were hippies, they were beatniks and bohemians. So I was reared in an antiauthoritarian, intellectually eclectic, creatively explorative, well beyond the boundaries of convention sort of world. The little known tribe of the carnivorous hippies... and that's not the half of it. Hence my atypical appellation; my half-sister's name is equally weird and wonderful ---though not all of our peers were as pleased with their unusual nomenclature, let me assure you!
My parents went their separate ways ---not an uncommon aspect of that scene--- and my mom eventually headed back to her roots in New York, where, despite my sinceree intention to get back to California as quickly as possible, I ended up being one of the few kids from "the scene" to acquire an Ivy League degree (well, two, actually). Then I zoomed back west as quick as I could. So here I am, suspended between two dissimilar worlds, nowhere near fully "hippiefied" despite the weird name and the long hair, yet nowhere near the mainstream. I seem to generally be too unusual for the straight people (though I can usually pass if I work at it), and perhaps a little too straight for the weird people (which is generally less of a problem). Somewhere I have a button that says, quite appropriately, "If you think I'm weird, you should meet my parents." Anyway, you get the idea. I am undeniably unique ---though not compulsively so--- and happy to be who I am. In other words, I don't try to be different for the sake of being different. I'm just comfortable in my own skin. Astrology wise, I'm a Capricorn sun/mercury, with Leo rising, venus and mars conjunct in Scorpio, and a Libra moon (v.o.c.). As far as the Chinese go, I'm a double Dog. That means that I should be most compatable with those born in the years of tiger, rabbit, and horse.... Though I find I get along with a lot of people, regardless of their astrology. But then again, that's an aspect of Dogs ---loyal, protective, hardworking friends, susceptible to belly rubs and head scratching. <grin>

Ah... a blog. Maybe I'll start writing again. For now, an update:

So, years back, I transferred my collegiate/vet school homepage to my own domain name, and promptly let it get horribly out of date. In fact, I must admit that at this point, I can't even remember the password to access the index files ---so if you happen across my website, no, actually, I don't live in Seattle, haven't in almost 3 years now. <chortle>. I guess I lost motivation, in large part, because the whole community-browsing aspect of having a collegiate homepage was gone. Why bother posting an online reflection of oneself in an un-networked cyberspace vacuum? I tried a geocities page (it's still out there, also out-of-date), but the connections from that were few, and tenuous. But lo! Tribe appeareth! <chuckle> Seriously, though, it seems to be a pretty good social networking portal, good enough that I've decided to take the time to upload a bunch of elements of myself ---to try to bring my online reflection up to date. Most of what that entails right now is sorting through and posting pictures and artwork. Since I did like a lot of the things I had on those old sites, I'm putting some of them up here. I'll try to remember to put dates in the captions, so there's some way of deciphering what's current. It seems the photo manager won't let me re-sort the pics, so the order may feel a bit random. Modern me was in the earlier uploads, so if you're trying to figure out what I look like now, find the pics with the little grey and black striped marsupial ---those were taken in September 05. All the pictures that don't actually have me in them were taken by me (photography being one of my hobbies). Maybe there's a way to create separate galleries; if so, I'll segregate them into pictures of me, pictures by me, and art.... Or maybe it will inspire me to figure out what that damned password is, and update starf.org! <chortle, shrug> Oh, in case you're wondering about the angle brackets.... I seem to be allergic to emoticons. Punctuation run amok just always gave me a neck crick. So the angle bracket encosed descriptors are my starfemoticons. Don't we abuse punctuation enough? <cocked eyebrow, grin, shrug>
