I Hate Hospitals

I had to go to the E.R. at the local hospital last night. I was suffering from an EXTREME version of the stomach flu virus, and things got to the point where I was in so much pain that I couldn't handle it anymore. My boyfriend and I got to the hospital at 11pm, but I wasn't seen by a doctor until 2:30am. We got home around 4:15am. I've only had about 5 hours of sleep-but at least I have some meds now to combat this virus. The doctor told me to take the next 3 days off to rest and recuperate. I just really hate hospitals...the long waits, being around other people who are sick and injured, etc. I'm feeling a little bit better, for which I am thankful. I really don't like being sick.

Coming up in Oct. 2008

My boyfriend and I are going to get married on Oct. 24th of this year. I know this comes as no surprise to those of you who live locally, and hang out with us on a regular basis...but I just wanted to share the news with my other Tribe friends.

Tribe.net No More?

So if Tribe.net folds in on itself....I wanted to let you know that I'm also on MySpace under the name "Staribun". I may also get a Ning profile to keep up on the bellydance/burlesque events and workshops. If you're on MySpace please send me a message or friend me, so we can stay in touch.

Shaken not Stirred

I want to let everyone know that we are okay here in the South Bay. Yes, we did feel the earthquake but there was almost no damage. Some stuff got shifted around a bit, but it was a minor quake (5.6 at the epicenter). We did take bets on the Richter scale readings...I didn't win...I did make a bad pun about Teutonic plates and other German flatware. lots of love to all

New Photos in my Profile part deux

I just added some more photos from my last dance performance, this past Saturday. I was able to get my boyfriend out of the audience to dance with me during the last song. He did a great job-he's quite a dancer himself!

the 11th Hour

We just went to see the film "The 11th Hour" last night. It reinforced my belief that we need to take care of our relationship to the rest of the planet by living within nature. It's been too long that the religious/political/economic/mass media forces have reiterated and reinforced the belief that humans are somehow superior to nature, rather than an active part of nature. Yes, we have reason and rationality, but we also have the ability to radically alter the world we live in through rabid development. I don't see this kind of development as being "progress". Now I'm not advocating living in a wigwam, hunting deer and wearing animal hides like my ancestors did-this is a modern world-but there are definitely ways for us to reduce our consumption of natural resources. Personally, my boyfriend and I don't have a car, so we walk/ride bikes/take public transit. We also shop at grocery stores that offer local produce fresh everyday and go to thrift stores/used bookstores and used CD/Dvd stores for luxury purchases. No one can stop their consumption of goods altogether, unless you want to live on nuts and berries like the squirrels, but it is possible to be a smart, informed consumer. Even our little bunny rabbit now has recycled paper/biodegradable litter in her cage! We're doing what we can but, ultimately, changes will have to occur en masse for the future of all humanity, without monetary gain or political agendas getting in the way.
