Having past the day of eating, and entering the season of consumption, I read a passage that reminded me of the part of these holidays we seem to easily put aside: the thankfulness for that which sustains us. It is easy when our meat com... read more

My annual Annie Thanksgiving story (blog entry)

Annie always stole the picked turkey carcass. The first year she got it out of the sink, the next year she learned to open the door under the sink and got it out of the trash. The third year I thought I would beat her by putting it in the out... read more

A Tough night of Parenting. (blog entry) Just watched Schindler's List with my son to give him a perspective on War. God that movie leaves me aching- that part where the children are driven away to be killed felt like a hole punched in my chest. What on earth is as sweet as the smell of ... read more

She waited until garbage night and dissapeared during the evening and got it out of my trash can- and then went down the street and got everyone else's. I spent the next morning with a shovel cleaning up knocked over garbage cans around the... read more
