Steamboat is the best hubby I could ever want to share my life with. His creative ideas are unique and amazing. He has a big big heart for my orphan rescue doggies and all critters. He has a big heart for his friends, too. He loves having intelligent, good hearted, creative friends and is loyal to all of them. A million wiggles to my Hubby, Steamboat. You are the best!!

If there was anyone that I would want to be like attitude wise its Steamboat Ed. McGyver, WC Fields, Groucho Marx he encompasses the best of being a human.
Ed hacks the world and makes it a better place to live. Thank you Ed for being the greatest teacher, for making me laugh and most importantly for being my bestest buddy!

"Steamboat" Ed "Machine gun" House(not real name), is a massive force of nature. He can kill or maim you with the things he makes, and houses vampires in his backyard. He is metal, so watch your ass, or something hot and steely will slice it off. Also, he's a real stand up guy. Ya heard?

"Crazy" Ed is without question one of the most amazing people I've encountered in life. When I was asked by the Hackers Conference for the 10 most important people to invite, Ed was likely a high 4-5 or maybe 6th (and I have to be very selective at this suggestion). He's largely self-taught not as a computer geek but in mechanical skills: milling, tooling, titanium welding, etc., and he grew up in a life (his words) "a trust fund baby" [a life most people lust for]. He proposed a $50K prize for a university physics dept. project for a remotely piloted re-entry vehicle made for reject space shuttle tiles during the early 1980s to study communication during re-entry ionization. We was part of a ranked robotic combat team (Robotica, Robot Wars, ...(all tm)). He has a lot of ideas, some of them good. He's at times a bit scattered at times. He just needs a bit more focus (he knows), theory, and critical thinking. Right now he's into steam engines and Burning Man art cars. Ed got "Crazy Ed" from his one time Isla Vista tenants Danny Marks and Ricky Hoffman when they introduced me to him.

about me
Typical hacker, building a few outlandish contraptions. Current work: art car, Basic Stamp, Tap-dancing robot, Burning Man prep.
--Survived the [redacted] Conference; great fun and much useful info exchanged. The way things are going though I won't be able to afford to go next year unless I get some work; i.e. the one thing I wasn't able to organize there. Still I was able to find someone to buy my underutilized cnc vertical machining center; I hate to see it go but realistically it's an albatross. Maybe some day I'll be able to reenter the fray but I don't know when..

--Have been busy in the shop for various projects including Burning Man and steamboat regatta. After that I spent a couple of weeks cleaning up the shop: it was a real mess. Since then I've been single-minded, trying to finish a project that's been malingering for several years. Here's a link to photos of the result: www.flickr.com/photos/ste...22722319686 I plan to give one to the first person who gives me some WORK. Reason I had time to make all t...

--I'm broke. No customers for several months now, despite BBB listing, Yellow Page ad and continual web hyping. Judy and I agreed to rescue another critter from a horrible situation so our dogfood bill is now officially bigger than our people food bill. Blue Cross just nicked me for another $1,800 for our monthly health insurance. Had an unexpected tax bill that was $40,000 higher than the estimate. Family trust is doing so poorly the bank in charge has shipped our account to another town a...

--Same shit, different day but I'm more or less past the worst, if only because I got a refill on the cough syrup; $24- because Blue Cross said it was TOO SOON to get another 10 Tablespoons of the stuff. Where's a Blue Cross dartboard when I need one??
Hope to sleep horizontal tonight for first time in a week. Managed a shower, too. Wishing I had a hot tub for the achey muscles tho. Depressing time of year. Missing Gothalot and Butterfly and all the 2- and 4-legged companions.
