ou8nrtist2.deviantart.com/art/T...582986 This medium sized version will be all stainless (bronze is too expensive at present),but I'm hoping to make the big one (if there ever IS a big one) with bronze and stainless (like the model). It is in the vice SIDEWAYS so it may be a bit difficult at first to see that it is the same (relative)shape as the model.I won't really know which orientatio... read more

They didn't waste any time. Here it is in situ. They've got some big deal meeting tomorrow . I hope their new clients will be impressed and have me make something for them too... L.A. is an as-of-yet untapped market for me thus far... This is a small monster design studio (they make monsters ,prosthetics, and animatronics). They're called "Almost Human". Check em out online: www.almosthuman.net/
I got the neighbor's kid to help me assemble this beast for a photo shoot before it goes out tomorrow morning...

I feel like I just gave birth, though this gestation period was quite short (2 weeks).
Just finished cleaning the last welds on the spine before spraying with a clear coat lacquer.

I'm basically finished with the conference table and the clients are not coming themselves but sending one of their employees up from L.A. to pick it up on Tuesday morning...
I'm almost finished,

It goes out Wednesday. I still have to weld this up and shoot it with a glossy clear coat... They're sending a van from L.A.to pick it up. I started on the 23 rd-will finish on the 7th. I'm exhausted. It will get a thick glass top 4' x 9'
I've been commissioned by a monster design studio in L.A. (they do animatronics ,prosthetics ,and other monster props for movies and TV). I'm building them a large industrial CONFERENCE TABLE with an organic twist. It's basically a trestle table design with legs of heavy I-beam but a large sculpted steel spinal column with big vertebrae to span the length and connect the two trestle ends. The top will be a huge sheet of thick glass 4' x 9'.

This piece is almost done... This is what's known as a Pavilion Table. It's the first thing you see when entering the client's house. It goes against the wall of the entry hallway and will get a glass top. It's almost finished. Just a few minor details to clear up. Some patina spots need redoing, otherwise it's finished. Client's happy. Bronze leaves and flower stalk. Polishe... read more

Notice how green everything is,but the true winter rains are just about to start in earnest. Like I said, it was cold enough for hail. I was only able to work in my studio for a couple of hours today, just too damn cold... As long as my dwarf citrus trees in the greenhouse don't freeze,I will have no reason to whine... This was shot at sunset.
OK well,

I was just slightly underwhelmed with that last Calla Lily leaf. It had no CRENELATIONS for Christ's sake... So here's the new and improved... I even like the natural colors of the bronze and stainless steel without patina...
This is the wonderful set up for the Thanksgiving feast I had the honor and pleasure of attending.

My friends borrowed my metalwork to help with the atmosphere; Art Nouveau mirror, wine rack, various candelabra etc. and all this was set up in a huge tent with astro turf and heating...very decadent indeed. Marvelous iconoclasts, brilliant creative artists, musicians, writers, scientists, filmmakers, and entrepreneurs. It was a blast...
I have a commission from one of my exes to make a semi-circular pavilion table with sculpted calla lilies in bronze and stainless steel. Here's the sample of the flower parts. I'll send this shot for her approval ,then proceed from there.

The process; The bronze leaf is welded to a bronze stalk I've rolled with hammer work. There is a stainless 3/8ths headless bolt recessed and welded in the top of the stalk. The flower head in polished stainless has a nut welded inside the bottom of the bl... read more
Here's my second attempt at a realistic sea urchin (our most common species for Uni here),in forged and welded stainless steel. I've embellished the natural pentagonal symmetry of the little nubbins by variegating the buffing pattern and leaving the heat patina for color...

The holidays are nearly upon us, a time to take stock, give thanks, and plan for the future. I thought I'd make a small votive piece I can have at the table to reinforce those ritual impulses and put quotation marks around the experience...

welded stainless steel. Height- 6 inches.
This is a piece about written language and the pattern of symbols that make it up. I am interested in ancient graphic languages, (as my father was before me)for their glyphic and symbolic representations. Hieroglyphs, cuneiform, runes, even modern Kanji all come from a place of pictorial representation. As an artist,I'm interested in that process and evolution, as a means of communicating meaning. This piece of plasma-cut industrial scrap steel looks to me like some ancient form of written langu...

I just finished and delivered this piece tonight. I made the fireplace surround and mantel about 10 years ago and the client wanted a new screen to block the hideous airtight insert stove that was installed in the firebox(for efficiency, and because we have new pollution regulations about open hearths in the county).

The surround is CURVED and has been bead blasted. That's why it has a matte finish, but it too is stainless steel. To lend an accenting contrast ,I've designed and built a screen ... read more
I recently saw "Ironman"and was pleasantly surprised at the high production values of the film. I have begun to fabricate my own fully enclosed ballistic helmet in polished stainless steel.

It is a daunting task to cold form 1/8th thick stainless plate to the exact contours of my skull sans padding...LOL I have GREAT RESPECT for the armorers craft at this point... Rather than a sword to unite our people and "Heal" the land,I think the Grail cup is an even more appropriate Quest... Welded stainless steel. Height- 4 1/4 inches. Width of cup-4 inches. The sphere in the stem represents octahedral symmetry in its spherical representation. The octahedron is the second shape of the 5 Platonic solids and is important in the study of Sacred Geometry. It relates to air. The bronze ... read more

As with the "Chef's Knife",I've fabricated a custom stainless handle that puts the balance point BEHIND THE BOLSTER. The santoku design is particularly effective with tomatoes. Those hollow ground dimples really make the blade slide through unimpeded...The short fat handle is designed to be wrapped with only three fingers as I always rest my forefinger forward of the bolster against the blade. Blade is 6 3/4inche... read more

I've made a little cradle with a flexible clevis at the top to "prove" the balance point for the photo. Most chef's blades have a balance point forward of the bolster. This knife is unusual in that it's balance point is BEHIND the bolster ON THE HANDLE. As usual I've done something in my fabrication which is completely counter to the popular model as to what's accepted as"correct", in a kitchen knife. As I said before,I made this knife fo... read more

Cold formed ,welded stainless steel. Both the proportions (length x width) of the formed elliptical cup, and the flat rectangular base of these little wasabi dishes are in a Phi relationship (Golden Ratio). The cup is welded to the base. I generally choose pleasing proportions for most of my work by instinct and intuition. After 30 years of shape research striving to make objects beautiful,I find more ... read more
