This is a piece about written language and the pattern of symbols that make it up. I am interested in ancient graphic languages, (as my father was before me)for their glyphic and symbolic representations. Hieroglyphs, cuneiform, runes, even modern Kanji all come from a place of pictorial representation. As an artist,I'm interested in that process and evolution, as a means of communicating meaning. This piece of plasma-cut industrial scrap steel looks to me like some ancient form of written langu...

I just finished and delivered this piece tonight. I made the fireplace surround and mantel about 10 years ago and the client wanted a new screen to block the hideous airtight insert stove that was installed in the firebox(for efficiency, and because we have new pollution regulations about open hearths in the county).

The surround is CURVED and has been bead blasted. That's why it has a matte finish, but it too is stainless steel. To lend an accenting contrast ,I've designed and built a screen ... read more
I recently saw "Ironman"and was pleasantly surprised at the high production values of the film. I have begun to fabricate my own fully enclosed ballistic helmet in polished stainless steel.

It is a daunting task to cold form 1/8th thick stainless plate to the exact contours of my skull sans padding...LOL I have GREAT RESPECT for the armorers craft at this point... The extreme rear plate at the back of the skull will be hinged. I'm now exploring a low profile flush mechanism closure... The... read more

Rather than a sword to unite our people and "Heal" the land,I think the Grail cup is an even more appropriate Quest... Welded stainless steel. Height- 4 1/4 inches. Width of cup-4 inches. The sphere in the stem represents octahedral symmetry in its spherical representation. The octahedron is the second shape of the 5 Platonic solids and is important in the study of Sacred Geometry. It relates to air. The bronze ... read more

As with the "Chef's Knife",I've fabricated a custom stainless handle that puts the balance point BEHIND THE BOLSTER. The santoku design is particularly effective with tomatoes. Those hollow ground dimples really make the blade slide through unimpeded...The short fat handle is designed to be wrapped with only three fingers as I always rest my forefinger forward of the bolster against the blade. Blade is 6 3/4inche... read more

I've made a little cradle with a flexible clevis at the top to "prove" the balance point for the photo. Most chef's blades have a balance point forward of the bolster. This knife is unusual in that it's balance point is BEHIND the bolster ON THE HANDLE. As usual I've done something in my fabrication which is completely counter to the popular model as to what's accepted as"correct", in a kitchen knife. As I said before,I made this knife fo... read more

Cold formed ,welded stainless steel. Both the proportions (length x width) of the formed elliptical cup, and the flat rectangular base of these little wasabi dishes are in a Phi relationship (Golden Ratio). The cup is welded to the base. I generally choose pleasing proportions for most of my work by instinct and intuition. After 30 years of shape research striving to make objects beautiful,I find more ... read more

This one is more like a seed pod than any mathematical geometry. welded stainless steel. The rainbow colors occurred after I polished the outside of the object then reheated the interstices with the torch.
This is a further exploration and more accurate model inspired by the "Towie Stone",

www.freebase.com/view/wiki...d/11652748 I have left off surface ornamentation in order to retain emphasis on SHAPE. I see this as a model of a larger sculpture in bronze or stainless ,or some combination of both. At the same time as being merely a lovely shape it also represents tetrahedral symmetry related to Sacred Geometry. Sacred Geometry Shapes, beginning with the five platonic s... read more

This stainless steel ball exhibits tetrahedral symmetry in it's spherical manifestation. This is basically more Sacred Geometry model making, but I am inspired by the 4oo odd Neolithic stone balls discovered in Scotland (mostly in Aberdeenshire)which archaeologists have yet to discern their historical use(many of which seem to be models of the five Platonic solids, the building blocks of Sacred Geometry, and all matter in the known Universe). As with other archaeological artifacts (usually metal...

Welded, cold formed, stainless steel. These two complimentary Sacred Geometry shapes(CUBE and SPHERE) with (nearly) identical volumes, when intersected, cause a subtle but palpable energy resonation. Sort of like a reset button. I know the words I've used to describe this effect are sort of vague and New Age. I'm sorry but I have No Idea what's going on on the "scientific" level. But this d... read more

He posed long enough for me to take his portrait ,then I took him back to his favorite habitat, the garden. He is venomous but his bite is apparently not serious for humans. He seemed to be in a good mood anyway and thanked me for my gentleness... Believe it or not that's one of my eyebrow hairs in front of him...LOL
