This shape exhibits certain Sacred Geometry characteristics as well as a tripartite radial symmetry. It has been described by a concise mathematical formula . From Wikipedia: "In geometry, Boy's surface is an immersion of the real projective plane in 3-dimensional space found by Werner Boy in 1901 (he discovered it on assignment from David Hilbert to prove that the projective plane could not be immersed in 3-space). Unlike the Roman surface and the cross-ca... read more
Since I've had no commissions lately,I kicked this out in the last three days tapping my stockpiled materials. All recycled steel.

Height to top is 12.5 feet. Diameter of rings 9 ft. 3 inches. The rings are 3x3 angle and were rolled "mistakes " from the rolling mill. I bought a truckload a couple of years ago and am slowly making my way through the stack. Only 12 bolts hold the whole structure together. It is quite stout. One can easily climb all over it with no loss of structural integri... read more

Not sure yet what this will be,maybe a belt buckle,or drawer pulls... Just trying to see if I could get the form and surface decoration somewhat realistic first.

I've had the most delightful time researching limpets and barnacles in the past 10 days and then illustrating what I've learned in stainless steel. Not sure what these little ornaments will end up on but I'm open to suggestions...

If you've been following the evolution of this design, you'll notice in the last set the knife was not exactly a perfect aesthetic fit with the group. I have here improved a bit on that "anomaly" and upgraded the design somewhat. This new knife is still not a perfect fit visually with the others ,but it's better. The new title for the set,"Counter Intuitive" was offered by my friend Peter and is not only a play on the fact that these tools are used at a counter,to eat,but also that the design ...

So I finally got the knife design down and added to the bunch. I've been using these for almost a month and feel the weight imbalance with the long tapering handle is NOT as much of an issue as I first thought. It's not to say these are perfect by any means ,but the whole point was to design a relatively aesthetic and serviceable set in the Minimalist Style that would be easy to manufacture with current laser cutting.

This is a medium sized abstract sculpture that I'm currently working on. The model is:

ou8nrtist2.deviantart.com/art/T...582986 This medium sized version will be all stainless (bronze is too expensive at present),but I'm hoping to make the big one (if there ever IS a big one) with bronze and stainless (like the model). It is in the vice SIDEWAYS so it may be a bit difficult at first to see that it is the same (relative)shape as the model.I won't really know which orientatio... read more

They didn't waste any time. Here it is in situ. They've got some big deal meeting tomorrow . I hope their new clients will be impressed and have me make something for them too... L.A. is an as-of-yet untapped market for me thus far... This is a small monster design studio (they make monsters ,prosthetics, and animatronics). They're called "Almost Human". Check em out online: www.almosthuman.net/
I got the neighbor's kid to help me assemble this beast for a photo shoot before it goes out tomorrow morning...

It goes out Wednesday. I still have to weld this up and shoot it with a glossy clear coat... They're sending a van from L.A.to pick it up. I started on the 23 rd-will finish on the 7th. I'm exhausted. It will get a thick glass top 4' x 9'
I've been commissioned by a monster design studio in L.A. (they do animatronics ,prosthetics ,and other monster props for movies and TV). I'm building them a large industrial CONFERENCE TABLE with an organic twist. It's basically a trestle table design with legs of heavy I-beam but a large sculpted steel spinal column with big vertebrae to span the length and connect the two trestle ends. The top will be a huge sheet of thick glass 4' x 9'.

This piece is almost done... This is what's known as a Pavilion Table. It's the first thing you see when entering the client's house. It goes against the wall of the entry hallway and will get a glass top. It's almost finished. Just a few minor details to clear up. Some patina spots need redoing, otherwise it's finished. Client's happy. Bronze leaves and flower stalk. Polishe... read more

Notice how green everything is,but the true winter rains are just about to start in earnest. Like I said, it was cold enough for hail. I was only able to work in my studio for a couple of hours today, just too damn cold... As long as my dwarf citrus trees in the greenhouse don't freeze,I will have no reason to whine... This was shot at sunset.
OK well,

My friends borrowed my metalwork to help with the atmosphere; Art Nouveau mirror, wine rack, various candelabra etc. and all this was set up in a huge tent with astro turf and heating...very decadent indeed. Marvelous iconoclasts, brilliant creative artists, musicians, writers, scientists, filmmakers, and entrepreneurs. It was a blast...
I have a commission from one of my exes to make a semi-circular pavilion table with sculpted calla lilies in bronze and stainless steel. Here's the sample of the flower parts. I'll send this shot for her approval ,then proceed from there.

welded stainless steel. Height- 6 inches.
This is a piece about written language and the pattern of symbols that make it up. I am interested in ancient graphic languages, (as my father was before me)for their glyphic and symbolic representations. Hieroglyphs, cuneiform, runes, even modern Kanji all come from a place of pictorial representation. As an artist,I'm interested in that process and evolution, as a means of communicating meaning. This piece of plasma-cut industrial scrap steel looks to me like some ancient form of written langu...
