about me
I’m a typical expatriate New Yorker, and a highly atypical lawyer. I’m good at what I do for a living, but I’d rather be doing something else. I derive my happiness from stolen moments. . . but don’t we all to some degree?. I’ve an insatiable appetite for travel. The only days that I'm not longing to be in Europe are the days that I'm in Europe. My favorite cities are London, Berlin, and Paris ... in that order. These stolen moments consist of Sunday motorcycle rides, golf, taking photographs, flying, skiing, my dogs, politics, film, and art . . . Some of my favorite artists include Matisse, Picasso, Renoir, and Kirchner... mostly modern European material.
This post may jeopardize my standing in the afterlife. I was in the Pantheon yesterday. I have been in Jewish temples, Christian churches, and more. I was never so awestruck as I was by the mystical power that radiated from the interior of this polythestic shrine to the Goddesses and Gods of antiquity. Though it was converted to a Christian church sometime between the fall of the Empire and the Middle Ages (which explains its survival), I don't buy it. The vibe I felt was like nothing I'...

On this day at approximatley 1:00 AM CST my maternal grandmother passed away. She was 92. We were not close since the passing of my grandfather 32 years ago (I am now 38), as this turned her into a bitter, manipulative, and critical woman, alienating all those around her making it extremely difficult to be around her. Notwithstanding her numerous and blatant character defects, when I heard the news at 8:10 AM PST today, within a few hours I was overwhelmed with grief. Why? Because she wa...

There are few pleasures more intense than the first kiss. As our mouths grow nearer, neither of us know how close they will come to meeting. As first contact is made, as our lips flow open . . . the tips of our tongues meet, and in an instant . . . a torrent of passion suddenly becomes unleashed . . . forever changing who we are and how we see our place together in the world.

The Life Sentence
The sky is a crisp azure.
The morning sun hangs low and rises,
Casting elongated shadows of deep contrast;
Leaves bursting in luminescent green.
A tender breeze intimately glides across my face and body.
This is bliss.
As I leave my personal Eden and my four-legged children behind;
As my furlough ends,
I return to a solitary confinement
A life sentence in a prison of paper and screens
Of derision and fear
Guarded by the conventions foisted upon me.
This is...

Today as every day I sit here in my office, filling the computer screen with empty boilerplate words about nothing that will print out on 28-line paper which will be photocopied and go to somebody who will not read most of it. Then, when the squabbling stops, it will wind up in a folder with hundreds of pages in a file cabinet in my office with dozens of other folders with thousands of pages where it will sit for several years. Why?

Brought in a Sony VAIO with a trojan horse from hell. It was like an alien sucking onto someone's face. They quoted me a very reasonable price to repair, got the virus off, and found 9 others and removed them... all within 24 hours... and stayed...

All the attorneys of the world should be thanking Steve for giving the profession a good name. Steve is the least attorney-ish attorney ever and that’s no mean feat! He’s an intelligent, genuine, straight shooter with a knack for being honest without being mean and/or preachy. (Hell, he’s like David Copperfield!) Did I mention he’s also funny as hell? He also makes a mean tri-tip and takes some pretty cool photos.
