Dutch surprised the hell out of me by being interesting. That's not a terribly flattering testimonial, but it's true (I have some anti-military baggage). After surprising me by being acceptably interesting, he went further, and turned out to be *way* cool. He is funny, energetic, intelligent, accepting, loaded with good-nature and integrity and as a result of all that is, um, far sexier than I ever thought I would find a Navy boy. He is older and wiser than his age would suggest, and well worth getting to know. Yay for awesome camp-mates.

Funny, smart, hip guy always ready with a smoke or a story. Fascinating to listen to him expound around the hookah.

about me
Quick to grin and fun to play. A few things in my life are no-nonsense, but I mostly get by with a wink and a smile.
The Navy just moved me to... (fill in the blank). Currently, Corpus Christi, TX, for flight school. My life is a constantly evolving thrill ride that reveals its hairpins without a second to lose. I've lived all over the country and on the oceans, I've seen and experienced so many of the wonders of the world that I'm forever doomed to appreciate it more with each passing year. I am Jack's unbridled get-up-and-go. There are about a bajillion things I want to do, and I spend most of my time doing them or scheming on how I might do the next one. I love everything. I'm not a puerile sycophant -- I know when to call a line of BS -- but for the most part I'm in constant state of wonder at what an amazing world this is. I try to enjoy it in every way I can, and I try to help those around me to do the same. Ok, mmmm... quick history. First off -- my life's an open book and I wear my heart on my sleeve; if I thought it was important, it's here. :) Born in Portland, Oregon, but moved to Michigan pretty much right after that. I grew up in a little town called Birmingham... about 15 miles north of Detroit. Stayed there until I turned 18, except for one year -- went sailing with the fam instead of eighth grade. I highly recommend it. (As I recall, most of middle school is an exercise in cruelty, anyway!) I went to Boulder, Colorado for college and got a BS to prove to the world that I'm a smart cookie. Then I turned my internship at a software company into a full-time job... a career, even. As I suppose a brand spankin' new college grad should. It took me almost three years to come to my senses. "Prove to the world I'm a..." ...seriously? Sheesh. Moving on. I may be a down-to-earth mid-western boy at heart, but let's just say I'm not one to shy away from adventure. I sold my house, sold or gifted my stuff, packed up what I could, stored the rest, and split. I enlisted in the Navy, and spent about a year figuring out that as cool as being a Navy SEAL might be, it's just not that cool to do a SEAL's job. (Surprise, surprise!). So, I left SPECWAR and took another path. I picked up a commission as an officer and now here I am in Naval Aviation, about six months away from getting my wings. Flying recon and rescue over the ocean is a little more up my alley, I think. :) I get up early, work out, swim... and they *pay* me for this! I love my life. And now, for your moment of Zen: There is nothing wrong with mediocrity. Nor is there anything right with it.
