</a>
										<div>The Yes We Can Song
by will.i.am

I was sitting in my recording studio watching the debates...
Torn between the candidates

I was never really big on politics...
and actually I’m still not big on politics...
but 4 years ago, me and the black eyed peas supported Kerry...
And we supported Kerry with all our might...
We performed and performed and performed for the DNC...
doing all we could do to get the youth involved...

The outcome of the last 2 elections has saddened me...
on how unfair, backwards, upside down, unbalanced, untruthful,
corrupt, and just simply, how wrong the world and "politics" are...

So this year i wanted to get involved and do all i could early...

And i found myself torn...
because this time it’s not that simple...
our choices aren’t as clear as the last elections ...
last time it was so obvious...

Bush and war
vs
no Bush and no war...

But this time it’s not that simple...
and there are a lot of people that are torn just like i am...

So for awhile I put it off and i was going to wait until it was decided for me...

And then came New Hampshire...

And i was captivated...

Inspired...

I reflected on my life...
and the blessings I have...
and the people who fought for me to have these rights and blessings...

and I’m not talking about a "black thing"
I’m talking about a "human thing" me as a "person"
an American...

That speech made me think of Martin Luther King...
Kennedy...
and Lincoln...
and all the others that have fought for what we have today...

what America is "supposed" to be...

freedom...
equality...
and truth...

and thats not what we have today...
we think we are free...
but in reality terror and fear controls our decisions...

this is not the America that our pioneers and leaders fought and
died for...

and then there was New Hampshire

it was that speech...
like many great speeches...
that one moved me...
because words and ideas are powerful...

It made me think...
and realize that today we have "very few" leaders...
maybe none...

but that speech...

it inspired me...
it inspired me to look inside myself and outwards towards the world...
it inspired me to want to change myself to better the world...
and take a "leap" towards change...
and hope that others become inspired to do the same...
change themselves..
change their greed...
change their fears...
and if we "change that"
"then hey"..
we got something right...???...

1 week later after the speech settled in me...
I began making this song...
I came up with the idea to turn his speech into a song...
because that speech effected and touched my inner core like nothing in a very long time...

it spoke to me...

because words and ideas are powerful...

I just wanted to add a melody to those words...
I wanted the inspiration that was bubbling inside me to take over...

so i let it..

I wasn't afraid to stand for something...
to stand for "change"...
I wasn't afraid of "fear"...
it was pure inspiration...

so I called my friends...
and they called their friends...
in a matter of 2 days...
We made the song and video...

Usually this process would take months...
a bunch of record company people figuring out strategies and release dates...
interviews...
all that stuff...
but this time i took it in my own hands...
so i called my friends sarah pantera, mike jurkovac, fred goldring, and jesse dylan to help make it happen...
and they called their friends..
and we did it together in 48 hours...
and instead of putting it in the hands of profit we put it in the hands of inspiration...

then we put it on the net for the world to feel...

When you are truly inspired..
magic happens...
incredible things happen...
love happens..
(and with that combination)

"love, and inspiration"

change happens...

"change for the better"
Inspiration breeds change...

"Positive change"...

no one on this planet is truly experienced to handle the obstacles we face today...
Terror, fear, lies, agendas, politics, money, all the above...
It’s all scary...

Martin Luther King didn't have experience to lead...
Kennedy didn't have experience to lead...
Susan B. Anthony...
Nelson Mandela...
Rosa Parks...
Gandhi...
Anne Frank...
and everyone else who has had a hand in molding the freedoms we have and take for granted today...

no one truly has experience to deal with the world today...

they just need "desire, strength, courage ability, and passion" to change...
and to stand for something even when people say it's not possible...

America would not be here "today" if we didn’t stand and fight for
change "yesterday"...
Everything we have as a "people" is because of the "people" who fought for
change...
and whoever is the President has to realize we have a lot of changing to do

I'm not trying to convince people to see things how i do...
I produced this song to share my new found inspiration and how I've been moved...
I hope this song will make you feel...
love...
and think...
and be inspired just like the speech inspired me...

that’s all...

Let's all come together like America is supposed to...
Like Japan did after Hiroshima...

that was less than 65 years ago...
and look at Japan now...

they did it together...
they did it...

"We can't?...

Are you serious..?..

WE CAN!!!

Yes we can...
A United "America"
Democrats, Republicans and Independents together...
Building a new America

We can do it...
"TOGETHER"

Comments about Virginia Tech Massacre

<div>After this massacre, an unofficial ABC poll stated today that a great majority of Americans still believe that stricter gun laws are not necessary, that this was an isolated incident.

How many isolated incidents do we need? No one can ever predict when a very disturbed individual will do something like this. Public massacres carried out by disturbed (non-religious or political) individuals using automatic or semi-automatic weapons is A UNIQUELY AMERICAN PROBLEM. This simply does not occur in other countries. A kid simply cannot buy a glock or uzi, that option is simply not available in another country. This, of course, does not include the psychological bullshit that many children have to go through by living in soul-deprived regions of the U.S.

OF COURSE we need stricter gun laws, especially on automatic and semi-automatic weapons. This ABC poll proves that mainstream Americans base their decisions on their emotions for fear of losing their "freedoms" (to shoot-off their m16 when they want) and a lack of knowledge of what governmental policies work perfectly well in other countries.

    </a>
<div>(I invite comments and further reading on this subject, most notably the informed works of Jared Diamond --Chris)

- Human Population and Ecology - Roger Tracy, Sierra Club Oregon

Population and Ecology

Some of us can remember Oregon in 1950 with a population one fourth what it is today. Our state has grown 20% just since 1990. Is one of those populations just right, or will more growth make it just right? How will we know? Who gets to decide? What if we get it wrong on the low side? What if we get it wrong on the high side? What are the implications for us of population growth nationwide and worldwide? Who benefits from growth in the short and long run? Who is harmed? How does population expansion cause or exacerbate many of the problems we face locally, nationally and globally?

In 1966, with a US population of 196 million and a world population of 3.5 billion, the Sierra Club produced its first population policy statement. It noted with alarm the effects of expanding population on ecosystems and called for federal policy to deal with the population growth. Our most recent update to these policies in 2003 continues to advocate a smaller world population.(full text- http://www.sierraclub.org/policy/conservation/population.asp) .

Although today it is taboo at the political policy level to point out that with half the global population, we would have half the greenhouse gas emissions, half the freshwater use, half the fishery consumption, half the urban sprawl, etc., this has not always been the case. In 1972 a Republican administration released "The Report of The Commission on Population Growth and the American Future" chaired by Nelson Rockefeller, a prominent Republican, with Senator Packwood as a participant. It found: "This Commission has concluded that our country can no longer afford the uncritical acceptance of the population growth ethic that 'more is better.' And beyond that, after two years of concentrated effort, we have concluded that no substantial benefits would result from continued growth of the nation’s population.".

(Full Text - http://www.population security.org/rockefeller/001_population_growth_and_the_american_future.htm)
Some of the consumption consequences noted by world scientists in a 1992 warning are that for each new additional American one acre of farmland or wild land is lost. Annually an additional 25.5 barrels of oil and 12,331 kilowatt-hours of electricity and 1,932 cubic meters of water are consumed. ( http://www.ucsusa.org/ucs/about/1992-world-scientists-warning-to-humanity.html).

Why have we in the US and the remainder of the world not heeded the persistent, if not prominently reported, cries to limit population? Think back to the question of who benefits from population growth. Many of us benefit in ways that are immediately perceptible. Real estate values increase. Cheap labor lowers consumer good prices. Businesses survive and profit from increased demand and cheap labor. Members of organized human groups and those who run them have more power and status for being larger.

Who loses? All of us do in the long run. Labor oversupply suppresses wages, promotes outsourcing and migration. We are already living off the bounty of the earth needed by future generations. We are stealing it from them. The sea is being mined of its fish, forests are being mined of their trees, farmland is being paved and rainforests are being clear-cut for pastureland. This is possible because we tend to discount consequences that are remote in either time or space. For a well-written account of the interplay of these issues, read Edward C. Hartman's book, The Population Fix, Breaking America's Addiction to Population Growth.

How many people can the earth sustain indefinitely? According to a study of optimal world population in 1994, 1.5 to 2 billion is sustainable. (http://dieoff.org/page99.htm) A 2000 study of sustainable population, (http://www.mnforsustain.org/erickson_d_determining_sustainable_population_levels.htm) found similarly that if we have a world population of about 9 billion (UN projection for year 2050), the average world citizen can live at the economic level of Ethiopia today, if we can survive at all! If the population were 1.5 billion, the average citizen could live at US levels today. Which world would you choose if you could?

The benefits of population growth are immediate and accrue to the powerful in our society and the world. The deep harm is not as obvious and falls at first on the less powerful. Some of the harm which has already occurred can be mitigated if we can make ethical reproductive behavior a world cultural and political priority. To understand the end results of sustained overpopulation, read Jared Diamond's best selling book Collapse, which examines sustainable and unsustainable population and consumption choices in a series of world cultures. The title is taken from his well-demonstrated effect of poor choices on cultures.

Without large changes in our reproductive and immigration habits, our other efforts to protect the environment are mere holding actions, doomed to be pushed aside eventually by smart or dumb growth when the choice becomes the last redwood or another place to put a subdivision.

This issue is far bigger than the space available here can cover. Please explore the resources cited to get a more comprehensive and fully reasoned picture of this, the central survival and ethical issue facing humanity.
                                                                                                                                                                        --Roger Tracy

I love his quote, "The time of getting fame for your name on its own is over. Artwork that is only about wanting to be famous will never make you famous. Any fame is a by-product of making something that means something. You don't go to a restaurant and order a meal because you want to have a shit."

    </a>
<div>After looking all over for a copy, and finding it sold-out everywhere (encouraging!), we finally found a copy and just went ahead and bought it. Christine watched it one night, it was her first viewing, and she said it was one of the best movies she's ever seen. I'm looking forward to showing it to other peeps.

I'm looking forward to reading the comic novel, I want to know the author's original intent with his character, but the movie itself stands alone. I estimate the action-scenes took place in only 10% of the movie, the rest required your ears to be open for the dialogue and eyes open for the thought-provoking imagery. The Wachowski brothers took an incredible character and premise and (without reading the novel) apparently used it as a vehicle for contemplation, self-observation, and inspiration. It is also an incredible story to reveal what happens to a society that is misled. Where the society's public gave-up all its "checks and balances", inspired by a manufactured fear by the government.

One of the points of the movie is that the government, deeply corrupt, attempted to dismiss 'V' as an insane terrorist. Therefore, if the Wachowski's chose for the main character to remain insane, as in the comic novel, all the intention of the movie would have been completely lost. BTW, a very good argument can be made that V was not a terrorist, but a vigilante. There’s a huge difference. A terrorist terrorizes a populace for the purpose of political change. A vigilante goes after wrongdoers because the legal system has failed in delivering justice.

There was so many parallells in the movie with what's happening here in the U.S., even down to the details (like the crappy television watched by the security guard). I believe that is another reason why the movie resonated with so many people. The future portrayed is worrisome to me and many others, for it is a future based on what happens if the Right continues unchecked to its "logical extreme".

I thought the movie also worked since it was in England's future, as opposed to the U.S.'s. That way, these parallels were displaced. What I mean by that is: if this was a movie about America's future, I believe it would have been more easily dismissed by the more close-minded of our population.

Speaking of which, the movie reached alot of people, and caused alot of people to think hard. Yes, the movie has action and is wildly entertaining, but it has alot of information packed in there. Each time I saw it at the theater, everyone was dead quiet as they left the theater, clearly thinking to themselves.

There are so many bad movies these days, and so few good ones. The vast majority of our mainstream population never pay to see the good ones. I believe this is one that may have slipped through.

(I also love all the excellent quotes in the movie--appropriately placed--either by the film's authors or borrowed from history.)</div>

<div>Once I became a Bassnectar junkie, my mind became open to other things. I first encountered Ooah, or Josh Lawrence, dancing next to me during Random Rab at a little party at a Portland warehouse gallery in early 06'. Then he got up on stage to replace Rab and then I was in musical bliss.

I then heard him at Emerge-N-See in June 06' and to me he was the V.I.P. of the festival, every time he got his hands alongside a currently-performing DJ, the music just got a touch more sicker and dope.

It's complex, sick beats with beautiful atmospheres and unlimited effects. Very danceable, and the vocal samples he includes are often very conscious with positive intention. I highly recommend catching Ooah as he travels around the west coast. He's now playing beats along Aaron and Jamie of Zilla in a group called Sporque.

<div>I was talking to someone recently about how she's on Match.com to find a date, and it got me thinking. The times when I was least looking for a mate were the times that I ran into a long-term relationship with someone.

When you are constantly pining for that "certain someone" is when you won't find anyone, or find anyone on the terms that you should find someone. What I mean by this is, you'll be needy and wanting, and that will come across as unattractive to the person you are trying so hard to court. If you do find someone, you'll find someone destructive to your well-being because they'll fulfill some insecurity about yourself. In other words, its bad finding someone when you're desperate, you'll force something to happen between two people who shouldn't happen in the first place.

Instead, concentrate on yourself. Acknowledge that you never really NEED someone, all you need is you and the life you live. Work on loving yourself and giving yourself more. It is at this time when are most happiest with yourself, that you'll find the best person for your life and be able to love them. I did. When it does come together with that wonderful person, it just comes together naturally and easily, because you've worked on any insecurities you feel on your own.

Enough on this for now, maybe ever.</div>

    </a>
<div>Do you love live music? Well, this is the story of a trip-hop DJ duo Dzihan &amp; Kamien (D&amp;K) from Vienna, Austria, the birthplace of another stellar downtempo duo, Kruder &amp; Dorfmeister. (Must be something about the letters K&amp;D).

Anyway, D&amp;K put together a 22-piece "dreamteam" of master musicians from around the world, and called themselves the Dzihan &amp; Kamien Orchestra, with amazing results. This album is from a show in Vienna itself, probably from 2003. It's basically what happens when an incredible electronica outfit translates their music into live instruments--the opposite of what alot of "Livetronica" bands are doing here in the States.

This is by far one of my favorite albums of the year! Or at least the year I discovered it, which is 2005.

Here it is on Rhapsody!!

    </a>
<div>Ever heard of MF DOOM, King Geedora, or Viktor Vaughn? Well, they're the same cat. Out of all the records I've checked out from MF DOOM, this one is by far the sickest. It's an instrumental, big beat journey into the depths of your own mind. Look up MF DOOM or the album name on Rhapsody for a listen.

To quote an album review, "One of the most prolific artists in hip-hop, strikes again with another collection of spastically funky instrumental freak-outs. The super villain's beat making prowess continues to evolve as he concocts dizzying audio tinctures out of ultra-obscure loops and dusty, stutter-step drums. Sick beats from an indie-rap icon."

I just listened to their latest offering "The Campfire Headphase" and its in the same vein as MHARTC, yet it's debatable whether it can be called electronica or not.</div>
