One Year Ago Today!

Mother's Day Roadtrip

me and The Boy took our annual Mother's Day treck down to Pismo Beach to ride quads for a few hours. We had a blast as always! the ride down is long and the ride back seems even longer. tired of the alphabet game and the like we made up our own game for the ride back. the Random Roadside Rubbish Game. i love to bake (and eat what i bake of course!) and lately have been doing a bit too much of it. Even though i bring most of it to work to share i still eat plenty myself. i hopped on the scale the other day and oh my! i have got to rein myself in. So i swore off baking for awhile, threw out some overripe bananas that i had planned to make into bread, modified my Safeway.com order and deleted any baking items i had been thinking of buying and decided i was going to turn over a new leaf and get serious about my weight again. soooooo Safeway delivers my order yesterday and leaves me 21 bananas that i did not order or pay for! giggle there's no way i'll be able to eat all of them before they get overripe and beg to be turned into delicious baked goodness =]

So i'll admit it. i have food issues. And i'm trying to lose weight. Bad combo. Plus it's just me running the show here so i gotta venture into the mind field that is the grocery store each week to provide for me and The Boy. Problem is i do much more than provide. i can't stop buying all the yummy looking crap that i don't need to buy (or eat). Plus i want to stay on a budget of $150 a week. i was constantly going over budget and coming home with loads of stuff i didn't need. Last time i did it i added up the money too and it was $30 worth of food that i didn't want or need. There also seems to be a disconnect when i get into the grocery store and i forget about the meat in the freezer and the cans in the pantry and i end up buying more of the same. So i decided to try safeway.com and it's been great. Not only do i go way under budget - $120 this week including the delivery charge, i also catch all their specials that normally i'd be to busy to notice when going through the isles, so i'm saving there too. If i'm not sure i need something it's a few short steps to the kitchen to check, which i also like. And best of all i don't have to take those numerous trips back and forth from car to apartment when i get home, which i've always despised. The guy comes and delivers my groceries right to my kitchen with a smile and a 'have a nice day'. it's a win win win situation - i save money, i save time and get only what i need and is good for me. i love it!

Because i have waaay too much work to do.. and i don't want to do any of it!

When i was a little girl of maybe 3 or 4 i drew a picture for my mom with crayons. It was a pretty picture with grass and people and trees, but the sky i drew was black and dark. My mom still proceded to hang it up on the refrigerator as she did with all my artwork. A few days later a dear friend of hers came to visit and spied my beautiful picture hung with pride. Being the educated man that he was, upon seeing the dark black sky, he immediately proclamed that i must be disturbed or depressed in some way and that she best get me some professional help and soon. He was very urgent and persistent with his advice and my mother became worried that something might really be wrong with me. After the man left she sat down with me to see if she could figure out what might be bothering me at such a tender age. She asked me why, my precious child, did you draw the sky black? So i'm teaching The Boy how to play Scrabble. We just goof around right now and don't keep score. He's an OK speller but still has a long way to go in seeing the words on both the board and his tray combined. i let him use made up words as long as he can use it in a sentance, which can have hilarious results. We laugh and have a good time. Serious, cut throat games can come later. But i just about peed my pants laughing when he made this move and says "darn, i had to go off the board." Of course i let it stand.

So i'm watching TV last night and a MacDonalds commercial comes on for their Double Quarter Pounder and they go on and on about how it is made with 100% real beef and blah blah blah. Then i notice at the bottom of the screen "at participating MacDonalds" Soooo, what? At the MacDonalds that don't want to participate the burgers are made with something else?
