Sugar Freak

So, its been a rather stressful year, without me really noticing it. I listed all that happened this year, and gasped at the non stop nature of it. And it took its toll.
After chest pains and a complete tummy shutdown last week, I limped into my GP and nutritionist . Many expensive heart tests later ( all showed near perfect health there, thank Geebus) I am happy to have the thumbs up in that department. But 2 days ago I embarked on a strange new world-- that of eating no sugar. At all. None.

I think I subsisted on it for most of my 44 years. It was a major food group for me. And truly, without a complete breakdown of internal systems this week I would have gone on snarfing the hard core granulated white stuff down. It was happiness at my fingertips!

Right now its day 3, and it feels like I've lost a companion. All the little treats to get me through the day, all the little rewards I deserved. The stuff I kept out of the kid's reach, just for Mommy--the "aw, why not " candybar at the checkout stand. All gone.
I always feared this day would come someday; and for now it aint that bad. Of course, when you are looking at severe gut issues if I take up the habit again, it makes it alot easier to quit cold turkey!

It's a helluva lot better for you. When you're sugar free, you can go back to the very occasional treat, without ruining your health. Only, you end up eating much smaller portions, and it tastes alot better.

kudos to you
yeah, this is a hard one, but I applaud you for it. As someone who thought she had "cut down" on sugar (I don't really care for sweets in general), it turns out that unless I get vigilante, I am not nearly as down as I thought (too many prepared foods for me).

So, I look forward to your success story, it will encourage me to follow suit.

I did the same thing :)
I cut out all sugar. Hell- I cut out all complex carbohydrates. I feel a thousand times better now- all the time. I have more energy, I look better, feel better, my SKIN is better.

Good luck- the first month is the hardest...

ok, i faultered yesterday-- and paid dearly!
Part of my diet is to avoid getting emotionally stressed. I was completing that last whisp of emotional crap around my old divorce all day, while doing errends in the valley. Crying in the car is almost private... Well I got to the bottom of the upset and started smiling into the brand new day, but not before eating a maltitol candy bar and 3 merangue cookies. And later my tummy cramped up so bad I was gasping.
Ok diet Gods, I get it!

Also, a friend of mine lost all the weight he was goaled to lose and got radiantly healthy over the course of several months, by cutting out eating anything processed. A little bell went off in my head when I heard that. I have started doing the same. It's pretty simple, like making a mind shift that tells you "those things over there=not food. these things= food." And its not about eating for recreation anymore. cool, I can go with that.

Best of luck to you. I did a cleanse this summer- one month eating nothing but fruit, vegitables and some nuts and oils. It was really amazing to empty the system of the toxins that processed foods contain. After about a week, my (massive) sugar cravings subsided and the diet became downright easy to be on. Hang in there!
