Play time or nap time... nothing in between.

Why is it, with cats, there is nothing in between play time and nap time? One second I've got a purring ball of fluff under my chin and the next I've got a raging strom of teeth and claws.
With all the toys she's been given it has to be my hands and feet to suffer. Ouch!
