I haven't blogged about this at all, as it's been something that I just wanted to experience, in the moment, all the time. Being Prince, with my Princess has been a blast! I have learned more about the SCA in the past 3 1/2 months than I had in the past several years combined. I have a newfound respect for the people who make this game possible, and a newfound commitment to excel at it and bring as much energy, motivation and fun to the SCA as I can!

We have Gulf Wars as Prince and Princess, and then Our Coronation the following weekend. Let's hope that the reign as Crown is as enjoyable as Our time as heirs...for Us, but more importantly, for everybody else!!!

Well, it's been a long time since I posted anything. For all of you back home in TX...sorry. I found a job here teaching 8th grade alternative school. I truly am liking it. The people I work with are great, my class is small and I have a cool teachers assistant.

Obviously, that means I won't be back in TX in the terribly near furture. I'm under contract for the school year.

I decided that If I'm here, I may go ahead and fight in a Calontir Crown Tourney...it'd be REALLY cool to win it. We'll see.

In order for me to do that...I needed to swear fealty here in Calontir, so I did, this past weekend at an awesome event.

I also made a new shield... a curved T6 aluminium heater, small enough to use in Crown here. It's a new fighting style for me and I'm really enjoying changing up the style.

Belle and I are quite happy, having a blast and enjoying life. Wedding plans are still in the air.....eloping is sounding more and more appealing.

Anyhow, I am well and good. Life is grand and I miss you all.

Isabeau and Anton got married Friday night at the War. It was a splendid ceremony! I was given a fantastic dowry of fine clothing, precious trinkets and wines. On top of all that I have a wonderful lady to call my own!

Sir Keif av Kiersted was generous to perform the ceremony. He communed with the Gods through the North Star Polaris. We all shared of an apple, bread and mead. The Ceremony was participatory in including the audience as a part of it; they also ate of the apple and bread and drank of the mead.

I have not doubt in my mind, or my heart that Belle and I will be happy for eternity. Someday we'll get around to a more traditional wedding with our real life familied in attendance...but for now, I am completely satisfied and overjoyed!

Well, as usual, Gulf Wars was a BLAST!

The picture is of the Ravine Battle. I am holding my green and blue spear, standing in a group.

I won a spear tourney with 45 wins...the 2nd place person only had 30.

House Rhoadd won the 5 Man Melee Tourney....Aaron, Corwin, Kael, Evets and myself.

Belle and I got married (in persona) at the event....

All told, it was an outstanding war!!!

Well, it may not be as big as usual, but Mardi Gras is undoubtedly happening in New Orleans. The Parades have been a blast. I think we've seen 5 parades so far....and it's only just begun!

Interesting evening. Last night, Belle had a belly dancing gig at a Hookay Bar on the Westbank. She was supposed to dance to a CD that we put together....but when we got there, we found out that the sound system in the place was down and all they had was a small radio. We decided to run and get my drum, just in case the radio wasn't loud enough.

Belle started her first set, and in walks some people who said they wanted to play music for the dancer. Cool, I had my drums. Wow were we in for a treat. We had just run into a family of gypsie musicians in from Los Angeles. A 17 year old kid, "Fiddlin' Ryan", his dad, "Drummin' Dave", and Saul, Dave's brother...Ryan's Uncle. They were friggin AWESOME. I sat in and followed along. Wow, what a treat that was. Belle danced and we played. It was an awesome show. It turns out the guys we were playing with grew up with a belly dancing mother, and a musician father playing gypsie stuff. Dave and Saul's mother started the Middle Eastern Culture and Dance Association.
http://devel.mecda.org/index.php
The show was great 'till it came time for Belle to get paid. The club owner tried to be sheisty and short her, but she stood up for herself and got what she was supposed to. Much fun!!!

Well, The Mardi Gras seasona has officially kicked off here in New Orleans. The Krewe du Vieux parade was Saturday evening, and Belle and I went to check it out.

We wore blue roof hats (very fashionable this year) and blue tarp capes. The parade was very cool, lots of funny stuff about the Chocolate City comment, and some crazy outfits, floats, etc....

The picture is Belle and I in our Blue Roof outfits posing with Walter Williams, (the creator of Mr. Bill) who was the King of the Krewe du Vieux this year.

Afterwards we went to the show at State Palace Theatre and say some funk. Talk about a crazy crowd.

And this was only the beginning.....

Well, I'm here in New Orleans with Belle now. There is a lot of damage all around, but the area where we're staying is in pretty good shape. Most of the French Quarter is up and running now. A lot of the City's infrastructure is down. The Postal Service isn't delivering to most residences yet. Some things are just tough, but the people seem to be working to make it. Everyone here has a story to tell.

Well, I've been planning to propose to Belle for a while...had to make sure we were compatible cohabitators, and just the right time. Well, things being what they are, the "plan" just couldn't possible go just like I thought it would, and so there were some slight modifications....

Belle is going to work in New Orleans for about 3 months starting now, and there isn't really much reason for me to hang around Kansas City without her...so off to NOLA I go. She's already there, and I couldn't let her fly away without an engagement ring on, so I decided to propose right there in the airport before she went through the security check.

It was quite a moment, actually. She had already started to cry a bit saying goodbye, since she had just gotten me there and we were finally getting settled in, etc....so I figured it was the perfect opportunity to add a bit more enotion onto the scene.

At least I got to surprise her with it. She seems happy, I'm happy....not a single solitary doubt about it. Never felt like that before. Never a dull moment in this life

It looks like I found some work as a substitute teacher right off the start here. Everything seems to be going according to plan...well, except for Belle's grandma passing away before Christmas. That part was planned to go very different.

It isn't every day that I get a bouquet of roses. In fact, I have to say that this is the first time...ever....that I have been given roses. It went something like this:

I was in the middle of teaching a math lesson (about peremiter and area) to my fourth grade class, when Krystal, the secretary...'scuse me, Administrative Assistant, (who happenes to have gone to high school with me) came on the intercom and called for me to go to the office. Now - usually if I get called to the office, it's because I forgot to sign something....not this time. I scramble for a second to give the kids something to work on while I'm out, assign two kids to be "monitors" and head for the office, wondering what the heck I did wrong now.

As I walk in, there's that odd murmur of gossippy ladies, and they tell me I have a delivery. I don't get deliveries at work....what the...and there sits a dozen roses. Must be some mistake...right?

No, no mistake. Belle sent me roses at work. No particular reason...no special event. She just wanted to show me that she loves me. Talk about a pick me up on Friday!

Of course, when I walk back into class, carrying a dozen roses...the kids are completely in awe...and a bit confused because....shouldn't the guy be sending the girl roses. Yes kids, I have sent her roses before. I guess she just felt like sending me flowers....she loves me!

TWO WEEKS now. In two weeks I graduate, and move to Kansas City for a while. Must be something special, huh?

I am loved...and hey, Belle,
You are loved also, even if the pin you had that said so broke!
I love you!

D.C. and Baltimore

Courtesy of Belle's father, I got to fly up to the East Coast and pay Belle a visit. That's enough to make a trip anywhere worthwhile...

We made it to D.C Saturday a bit late, and viewed the aftermath of the Million's More Movement. Everyone was friendly and there wasn't any trouble, but my oh my was the place trashed. There was trash everywere. The capital mall looked like a landfill. I appreciate the message folks, but at least you could try to clean up after yourselves!

Baltimore seems like a cool place. The harbor is very pretty, and the folks seemed nice enough. Not much to tell about a place in a couple of hours. Nevertheless, I love the opportunity to see new places.

The picture is the view from the top of the Baltimore World Trade center 27th floor observation deck. They call it the "top of the world", but I have to say; It doesn't even compete with the view you get when you climd a mountain and look out from over 12,000 feet of elevation. Different experiences all together.

I had the opportunity to perform a handfasting on top of Enchanted Rock Saturday morning. I must say, it was a stunning ceremony. The location was phoenominal. The couple was adorable.

Dan and Josie are certainly among the coolest people on the planet. Dan actually made a Celtic Love Knot to use for the handfasting. They now live in Aberdeen, Scotland. Her family is all English, Dan is from Texas. What a mix!

Belle was here for this all and that made it even more special. Two weekends in a row I've gotten to spend with her...now I may not see her for a month or more. Ahh well, I take what I can get; and the gettin' is grand when I can have it!

So, our little shire of Ffynnon Gath held a Highland Games event this weekend. Through conspiracy and very sneaky behavior, BELLE managed to surprise me and show up. I had NO IDEA she was coming. Needless to say, that made my weekend.

Ogre Ball, great friends, lots of alcohol, drumming, dancing, firespinning, etc...

Well, I'm officially 29 now. I had a wonderful birthday weekend. The best present I could possibly ask for came in on a plane from Kansas City abour 5:00 Friday evening. For all of Belle's friends who read this...consider yourselves very lucky! I almost didn't give her back this time!!!

I got to show my Belle around my little town a bit, hit the Showdown, and she got to visit with people at Mystic Marks Tattoo Shop (where I have long been a "shop rat"). Belle got a very small taste of the nightlife here in San Marcos, but I s'pose there will be other opportunities. Saturday morning, we did about a two hour tube float down the San Marcos River. I love my river!

Saturday night, PARTY TIME. A keg of homebrew, and a keg of bock, halibutizers, salmon, fried catfish, and more food than you can shake a stick at! Back yard fighter practice followed by a dip in the pool: A little drumming and fire dancing thrown along with a bit of belly dance...you have the makings for a great tme! All I lost was a bunch of arm hair.

*note to self...practice spinning the flaming great sword behind yer back BEFORE attempting it with flame...it's too long for that and might hit the ground!*

*note to self...don't assume that you retain skill with poi after many many months of absolutely NO PRACTICE*

Now that it's all over, I do feel a year older! Hopefully, a good night's sleep will help with that! That's all...

Well, Summer II started yesterday. Nothin' like class at 8:00 AM every day to get you blood flowing...err...is it boiling? Anyhow, my prof. just happens to be an old school SCA lurker and had heard about me before the start of class. He went off on a long tangential schpiel about the Society and made an "instant A" comment. Today, I had on a Pennsic T-Shirt, and he said, jealously "You've been to Pennsic, I hate you already" Anyhow, it appears that this dreaded Summer school class...my last actualy class before student teaching...will be a fun one.

Well, so...ummm...I went to see my beautiful Belle in St Louis this weekend. I met the 'rents, and we sort of sniffed each other out, checked for third eyes, and opposable tails, and finding none decided that we liked one another. Interresting folks, it esplains a whole lotta Belle quirks.

Fireworks at the Arch were kick ass (even though they had to play that stoopid "God Bless the USA" song), and the Black-eyed-peas were playing at the fair...that was a cool scene. The metrolink: and mind you...there is NO subway or comparable public transit system here in the trailer park we call Texas, was absurdly packed elbow to elbow getting there, and traffic getting out was like the Dave Matthews "oowee traffic jam, got more cars than a beach got sand" inspirational motif. Nevertheless....what a wierd word that is...we had a great time.

Sparing you all the gory <-(that's not really the right word) details, I managed to miss my morning flight outta St. Louis...which worked out OK, 'cuz I didn't really wanna work a 3-11 shift on July 4th anywayz! Fortunately, I was able to catch a 2:00ish flight out, which allowed for an extra few hours w/ Belle. She's was awefully cute showing me the park she played in growing up, 'specially when she decided to climb a tree like the good ole days.

After seeing the breeding stock that produced said Belle, the house, park and city that she grew up in...and her again... I must say that I am as convinced as ever that she was put here just for me. Never met anyone that shared so much with me so perectly and differed from me in such a precisely balancing way. It's official...I'm madly in love..................................................

For years now I have gone to play poker with the guys on a semi-regular basis. I almost NEVER win and generally just donate my money, spend a couple hours losing money, and hope to drink enough of their beer to break even. This most recent batch of Svenbrau, a red, is verrry tasty....but it certainly didn't change my luck.

I've decided that luck is rarely, if ever, on my side, and typically I don't stand a chance when it when Lady Luck is involved. Losing money sux, but I must admit, it's a great way to hang out with friends...too bad I hate losing and usually walk away pissed off!

The good thing about the whole scenario is that poker night is Saturday, and fighter practice is on Sunday. At least the guys willing to show up in armor give me the chance to...shall we say...avenge my losses - in bruises
