I found 3 bb's underneath my skin
Wed, June 24, 2009 - 3:58 AMIt's been a long time since that accident happened, i wish i never made that shot with my bb gun, or i should have known better. I was just a kid, a teenager that just wanted to do something that i had done in the past, shoot a shotgun shell, & let it go off. I thought it was cool the way my friend was able to let a shotgun shell fire without a gun, the way we made it go off was to shoot that middle part of the bullet. During the summer time around August, the family went out by boat to go berry picking, we camped out for about 5 days "it seemed like two weeks for me". The area we camped out was about 5 to 6 miles away from town, it doesn't seem far, but during the low tide it's very difficult going in or out of the camp site. Once we got to our camp spot we had to push a 16 foot lund-boat into a very big long stretched lake, the distance to the lake was about 400 to 500 feet. We used logs, & pieces of wood in order to make it a little easier to push the boat into the lake.
Once every thing was setup we took a ride in the lake, this lake seem to stretch 3 miles or so the water is fresh, but undrinkable due to the mossy like substance floating around & just that lake water wasn't good for anything except maybe washing dishes with. My dad would usually set the white fish net in the lake about 300 feet away from our camp. The only fish inside this lake is white fish, & needle fish or minnows, we would usually catch 8 to 10 fish a day with that net. The birds around the area was plenty, mainly ducks, we'd catch a few for bird soup, & amazingly there would be some fresh duck eggs in August at that site. At the time i was maybe 16 or 17, my brother Albert was 14, & Harold was 11, i can't remember the exact age, but we were all just kids. The first few days we got a lot of salmon-berries, & the small few raspberries around the area. There were some spots on the land in certain areas that were fill with salmon-berries, so much you could see a big patch of orangish land spreading far, & wide.
During them days I never liked it when it was too hot, or when there was lots of mosquitoes. I never really complained about those stuff that bothered me, i just picked as much berries as i can, sometimes i'd get carried away eating them berries. Often times my stomach would hurt from all the berries i ate, my parents would tell me not to eat too much, the taste of the berries was too delicious i just couldn't resist having them. When the sun set beyond the horizon, & when we "kids" had nothing to do we'd use our bb guns to shoot the V line underneath the river. Beneath that V line was a fish swimming up or down river, we all though we'd be able to catch the fish in the river, but we never did catch any that way. When the sun was gone, & the sky seemed dark blue, that's when we'd hear in a distance a crying loon going "aaaaaahhhh...........aaaaahhhhh" the birds always sounded like they were crying.
I like the story about how the crane got his blue eyes, one day the crane was eating berries, he decided to set his eyes down, & he told his eyes to let him know if someone was coming. As the crane was eating berries, his eyes started screaming, "I see someone, i see someone, their going to take me away" so the crane rushed back to his eyes, & when he looked it was just a log floating down the river. He said to his eyes, that's just a log, next time don't make stories up. He set his eyes down, & got back to eating the plentiful berries, all of a sudden he heard his eyes screaming, "someone's coming, someone's coming, there going to take me away". The crane rushed back to his eyes, & when he looked around all he saw was just a leaf dancing around in the wind. He said, that's "just a leaf floating around in the wind", he set his eyes back down, & continued eating. Moments later he heard them eyes saying "someone's coming, someone's coming their going to take me away!" The crane just ignored his eyes, & kept on eating, he started to hear his eyes screaming from a distance getting fainter, & farther away. He then tried to look for his eyes, but his eye's were no where in sight- He then took some cranberries for his eyes, to his amazement everything was red, just too red he didn't like the color it bothered his sight. He then looked around the area to find black-berries, he put them on, & when he looked around it was as if it was night time, everything was dark. Well he then set the black-berries down, & found another set of berries, this time blue berries. When he looked around everything was perfect, he liked how his sight was.
I remember hearing this story told a few times when i was younger.
Oh out in camp, i noticed everything tasted much better out there, like the chips i usually didn't like "sweet'n sour cream" tasted good out there. The taste of food seem to have a much better taste out there for some reason, i always liked eating out there because the food had a much clean crisp to it. Well it's kind of getting late, i kind of got carried away, i need to wake-up in the morning, & take care of some paper work.
Well long story short, during the warm hot sunny day my parents told us there was a bag of shot gun shells in the tundra. They pointed off to a distance on a small hill, that's when me & my brothers stared walking towards that area. We only wanted to go there because we heard there was a can of gun oil in that bag. Once we walked towards where my parents had pointed we found the black bag that contained a full 25 or more shotgun shells. We oiled up our bb guns, & we noticed our guns got stronger or better to pump. We were all glad our guns were performing better then before, i got the idea of putting the shell in the ground, & we would try to shoot the bullet in the middle to let it go off. Well all of us started shooting at that shell, we were about 20 to 25 feet away, none of use were able to hit it. We kept missing, after my 4th or 5th shot I hit the middle of the bullet & that's when the bullet went off. My brother Harold started crying, Albert was leaned forward, & i was trying to calm them down. When i saw blood on my brother that's when i started screaming for help, i could see myself screaming, it was as if i had jumped out of my body, & i saw what was happening from all directions. The walk to our parents was a distance, they were all shocked what had happened, they were asking who shot the bullet & made it go off. At the time i didn't feel any pain, i was just crying, i thought my brother was going to die. We drive back to camp, then my dad, & Harold and a relative started going to chevak. The tide was going out, they had to push their way in the river for a half hour. During this time our auntie tried to cheer us up, & told us that what had happened wasn't so bad. She had told us that her husband got shot with a rifle, & blood was gushing out, well she just wanted to let us know what happened to use wasn't as bad as we thought it was. To pass the time we went in the boat, & collected the needle fish that were swimming around the boat, we caught them with our hands & kept them in a small container.
Well that's all i'll say for right now, it's way too late for me, i need to get up early in the morning, i got carried away with the story.

P.S. i never really told anyone this story... it's been a long time since this stuff happened. my brother harold usually take a magnet, & lets the bb shell stretch his skin, there's a bb shell underneath his chest beneath his skin too. i think mine are a little too deep to be pulled by the magnet.
