HATE Crime in Portland oregon repost.. please also repost.

<div>By now many of you may have heard what happend after Blowpony Saturday night. Unfortunately, I was one of the people who was physically assualted and then received negligent treatment from the Portland police afterward. Right now, I'm planning on going to the Sexual Minorities Roundtable meeting on July 14th to talk about my experience. Below is a copy of the statement that I plan on reading there. If anyone would like to come, I would love the support.
thanks.

It is with a heavy heart and a bruised face that I write this letter but I think it's important that my experience be known.
In the early morning hours of Sunday June 14th, I was the victim of a hate crime on the corner of NW 6th and Couch. This happened outside of Casey's, a gay bar where I am a dj and it was 2:30 in the morning, after the bar had closed.
When I came outside to make my way home, I saw that a friend of mine was talking with the Portland Police. She had been punched in the face by a man who had been spouting homophobic remarks at her and another friend of mine. Her nose was broken and the police had arrived to investigate this crime. While I was watching this interaction, a group of men approached the scene also shouting homophobic remarks. I walked up to them to ask them to leave the area and the next thing I remember, I was on the ground with my mouth bleeding. I didn't really know or understand what had happened. I had been punched in the mouth and knocked out.
The Portland Police department, who was on the scene, was completely negligent to my situation. They talked to the guy who said I had started it, yet there wasn't a scratch on him and I was the one on the ground bleeding. As I was sitting on the ground, the police officers refused to let a friend of mine bring me ice for my face, threatening to arrest him if he attempted to approach me. Three police officers were standing over me, firing questions at me in a harsh, aggressive manner. Having been the victim of hate crimes in the past and feeling extremely confused, hurt, and threatened, I went into shock and was unable to answer their questions. They responded to this by rolling their eyes at each other and laughing, implying that my response to this trauma was ridiculous. Even though two of my friends who witnessed the incident were able to tell the police what happened, they refused to do anything about it because I was unable to talk. Not once did they offer to provide medical attention to me or my injuries. They ended up leaving me there with a friend and the guy who did this was still in the area. When my friend asked if we could get a ride home, they responded with "We're not a taxi service" as they walked away from us. Luckily we were able to get back into the bar and wait for a cab.

The lack of compassion and negligent response from the Portland Police Department is not isolated to my situation. In fact, earlier in the evening, people on the balcony above the bar had thrown several objects onto patrons of the bar who were outside smoking. These items included glass bottles, cups of urine, and many homophobic and hateful and violent remarks. The police had come to the bar due to capacity concerns and refused to acknowledge the dangerous situation that was happening outside of the bar. They actually demanded that we refuse re-entry to the bar, keeping the bar patrons outside and in the line of danger.
On Sunday afternoon, the same day, a friend of mine, a transgender woman, was assaulted on Portland public transportation. Her assailant made homophobic and transphobic remarks and physically pushed her. The police came and found the man who did this but when she asked to file a report, they essentially refused to let her, claiming that it wasn't necessary because the man was intoxicated.
The man who broke my friend's nose was quickly arrested, handcuffed, and placed in the police car while the police were asking my friend questions about what happened. The man that punched me was talked to while leaning against his car and let go shortly after. The man who punched my friend was black and the man who punched me was white. I also find this extremely problematic. While I'm grateful that the man who punched my friend was apprehended, I don't feel like the two assailants were treated in the same manner and it's hard for me to believe that race had nothing to do with it.
Again, I don't feel like these are isolated incidents but that there is a larger problem at hand here. At minimum, this is a training issue. This is something that needs to be addressed immediately and seriously by not only the police department but by the entire community. It's time that the Portland police stop allowing hate crimes to happen. It's time that the Portland police show some compassion and understanding to all of Portland's residents. If the Portland police are unable or unwilling to do this, it's time we as community members hold them accountable and let them know that their negligence will not be tolerated.
Jose

On another note we all need to unify and stand up for each of our community family members, less then two months earlier I was attacked and punched in the face just outside the door of our club by a male who was harassing queer men &amp; women who were outside for fresh air and to have a smoke, this male was from the top floor apt where many cups of urine, beer and glass bottles were thrown down upon people standing outside this past Saturday, he was arrested and I'm still waiting for my day in court?
I think it's very important we don't give up ground and that we all stand together on this and all other attacks, we need to hold a discussion and I plan personally holding a demo on the corner where Jose, Heather, and Kayenne were attacked anyone care to join me?

    </a>
<div>I was just listening to Kboo a great local community radio station here in Portland and they where interviewing a guy that owned 80 acres and was running a sustainability farm and had opened up there land for people to come in and learn how to live in harmony with our earth and to farm and live simple. I think this idea is so great Mike and I have talked about wanting to buy property and start an eco type farm center where we would teach organic gardening based on the permaculture idea as well as a healing center so I was really excited to hear about an example of a working and successful community.
It also seems like more people are starting to move towards sustainable life styles such as biking more, public transit, gardening and feeling more empowered to stand up for injustices. So as much as the world is defiantly still in a strange place with all the war and economy I feel an odd sense of hopefullness!
What do you guys think of the general energy of your world.
( Im on vicodin just had 2 teeth pulled I hope this makes sense.) </div>

Gaza Protest Set for Saturday at Pioneer Courthouse Square

As the death toll from Israel’s 19-day assault on Gaza tops 1,000, plans for
the next local demonstration calling for an end to the massacres are set for
this Saturday, January 17th, at 3:00 PM at Pioneer Courthouse Square. “In
the past nineteen days, Israel’s military has killed more than 1,033
Palestinians, including 335 children, and injured more than 4,850,” said
Hala Gores, a volunteer with Americans United for Palestinian Human Rights
and one of the organizers of Saturday’s protest. “Many of the dead are
still under the rubble of schools, mosques, markets, police stations, and
apartments.”

“Our Palestinian brothers and sisters in Gaza are crying for the world to
demand an end to the massacre and an end to Israel’s war crimes,” said
Gores. “Our flags and our signs will send the message that all Palestinians
are under attack; we are calling on Oregon’s Senators and Congressmen to
demand an immediate end to the bloodshed.”

This Saturday’s demonstration has been called by Americans United for
Palestinian Human Rights, Portland Peaceful Response Coalition, Sabeel North
America, American Jews for a Just Peace, Lutherans for Justice in the Holy
Land - A Ministry of Central Lutheran Church, American Friends Service

    </a>
<div>I just had my 36th birthday and I have been recapping on the last year and in a way how intense it has been so full of changes, I feel like I have been riding a wave.
what a strange amazing year of transition, I feel like I really worked on letting go of past guilt’s and learned to stand up for myself more.
I also feel like I am in a wierd place I feel the hangover's more, shows on work nights kill me the next day, I also am thinking more about the future and things I want to do that I always put off like going to south america and how I can make this happen. ..I was brave enough to leave oregon and go the bay area and then brave enough to know when it was time to leave that I should be able to figure out how to plan a vacation.. for some reason moving was easier then planning a fabulous trip.
Mike and I left the Bay Area and are working on starting a new life here in Portland it’s defiantly not always easy to start over in a new place there are times of missing the bay and the life I had established there, but in reality it’s really fun here, a lot of clubs and meeting crazy drunken rockers .. Good times. I am also reconnecting with old friends and restablishing myself in there current worlds which is interesting.
We moved out of our friend’s house and into a fabulous Victorian. I am so tired of moving I have moved 4 times in less then 1 year.. I am done I am going to nest a while!
I have been doing more art and having shows plus sewing projects!
Work is good also and I may have an opportunity for a promotion I interview after the New Year.
New years eve have several options but all involve a sassy red dress…
January 2 is Mike’s 32 bday so I am going to get mike a drum kit or an I phone for his birthday! He never reads blogs so hahaha he still wont know!
All in all things are as good as can be and will keep getting better it always does get better and better.

    </a>
										<div>I haven't blogged in forever!
So for anyone interested here is a lil update on our move to Portland.
Things are really good here, we spent the first 5 months living in the Hawthorne district with my good friend Chani and this month we found our own fabulous place! ITs the most amazing place I have ever lived, its a 2 bedroom huge Victorian in a even better location. Living with Chani was tons of fun but its nice to have a bigger and our own space.
I have an art show this month at the Cup and Saucer on 30th and Kilingsworth and next month at a cafe on Alberta st.
Game night on Sundays, crafting and going out!
Its raining but beautiful out!
Its good to be home.

BECAUSE being a hot fat girl is a lot of work

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/tattooed_kitty/blog/b5608580-a65f-4864-9512-966f3e6c694b"> <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/a1d/7b6/a1d7b640-5ba4-4fe4-a080-515d933d519b.thumb" width="65" height="47" alt="" />
    </a>
<div>BECAUSE being a hot fat girl is a lot of work and is undervalued or unrecognized. Because a fat girl still has to pay more money for uglier clothes or spend 11 hours at the thrift store to find anything hot to wear. Because if you take the elevator people think you're lazy but if you're on the treadmill people laugh. Because men like John Goodman and Bernie Mac get to have careers on television but sitcom moms of three still have size-two waists. Because even feminist magazines publish fat-phobic articles under the guise of it being a "health issue." Because anti-capitalist activists still use expressions like "fat capitalist pig." Because girls are dieting at the age of nine. Because side effects of the most popular diet drugs are seizures, heart failure, fecal urgency, breast cancer, lung disease, insomnia, nausea and vomiting, dangerously high blood pressure, abnormal heartbeat, psychosis, strokes, hallucinations and sudden death. Because the Cooper Institute's ongoing study of 30,000 people has found that those who are fittest live the longest, no matter what they weigh. Because the doctor who said that there were 30,000 "obesity-related" deaths each year received over $2 million in research funding from Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers. Because that study prompted the FDA to approve Phen-Phen and Redux. Because fat hatred is a money-making industry. Because fat people who exercise live longer than thin people who don't. Because if you lose weight 'cause you're sick people tell you how great you look. Because hatred is so ingrained in every single one of us, especially inside the heart of even the hottest fat girl. Because even the most progressive people don't talk or write about it. Because I am tired of being ignored, invisible, de-sexualized and told that I have such a pretty face. Because it's not fat that kills, it's fear of fat. For all that and more I am a part of the HOT FAT GIRL REVOLUTION!</div>

<div>"Stumptown" is a nickname for Portland, Oregon, coined in a period of phenomenal growth in the city after 1847. Portland was growing so rapidly that the stumps of trees cut down to make way for roads were left until manpower could be spared to remove them. In some areas, the stumps remained for so long that locals painted them white to make them more visible, and used them to cross the street without sinking into the mud. In more modern terms, "Stumptown" is humorously used as Portland's nickname to denote the city's lack of tall skyscrapers, the highest being only 546 feet</div>

<div>Well, it's official. Mike and I are moving to Portland, Oregon by June.
Mike has given notice and I will be the end of April.
Scary and exciting to be making such a huge step!
There will be people I miss greatly, and others who I am excited about never having to see again heheh.
It's been over five years now in the bay area, and I can't say it hasn't been fun, but the time has come to go home!
I am from Oregon so we have a good group of friends there as well as family.

<div>Come EARLY and plan to stay late!

Saturday, March 29 — Doors 7 pm — Show Starts 8 pm

12 Galaxies (Mission St between 21st and 22nd in SF —— look for the Doggie Diner Heads)

$$10—25 and up sliding scale (a special prize to the highest door contributor!)

12 Galaxies will be packed to the rafters with an amazing selection of talent representing 10 plus years of the best musicians and entertainers from this area. Many of our performers have solo projects, new group projects, and have been a part of some of the most exciting and notorious bands, duos, performance experiments, and mayhem (often with Mark himself) that have shaped this whole scene for years.

Everyone's playing short sets so make sure you don't miss out by coming late...and yes, Mark will be playing here and there throughout the night. There will also be an all—star, old school, improvised set with members from nearly all of Mark's former bands, including Electric Pinata.

The players, mostly (it's getting bigger by the day):
——In no particular order——
Myles Boisen
Seth Ford—Young w/Rob Reich
Leila—Anne Brusseau
Sean Hayes
Robin Coomer
Enzo Garcia
Lucio Menogen
Joe Rut
Fuzzy Cousin
The Slippery Slope

Sugar Butt Tiger
Scott Stone aka Skate
Steambeat Derby featuring Sansa Asylum
Ragi the Lawyer
Kristina of the Nekyia
Gibson Pearl
all this and more held together by the capable wonder known as Mr. John Hell. That means he's the MC.

Meet your hot door hostess Sister Mable and her team of beauties at the door, and give generously! 90% of the door goes to Mark.

We have a generous donation of some jewelry designed and handmade by John Moriarty/14 Karats of the Jesus Tacos for the highest door contributor.

Drink Heavily :) (we'll help you get a cab!) —— patronizing 12 Galaxies is an investment in your future, and this venue needs the support of our community.

Around the edges of this stage circus you will find the likes of:
Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence with kisses, spanks (and maybe handjobs!) for sale
Spygirl &amp; Moses the Klown, hopefully not hurting themselves...
VonStilts, loveliest long—legged ladies heating it up outside
The Gomorran Social Aid and Pleasure Club crashing the sidewalk, along with all the other musicians who can't fit on stage!!!! It is an embarrassment of riches!

...and last but not least, our faithful mascots, the Doggie Diner Heads.

Thanks to everyone for all their kind and honest words, donations of time and creativity, and moral support. We really are a part of an amazing community. This is going to be a really special evening for everyone.

Background: Mark was injured in a bicycle accident about 6 weeks ago, seriously enough that he couldn't walk for a while! He is progressing well, getting stronger, playing a bit more, but still faces some time before he can get back to his landscaping work and full touring schedule.

you can also donate to wickk23@yahoo.com via paypal
i need to raise at bare minimum $6,000
here is original story:
so last night i was biking between two houses on my way to the wonderful world of sleep when some folks thought it would be an entertaining idea to try and run me over with their fancy black sedan. so here i am riding down peralta pretty fast when i hear bass and see them sitting there then i hear a screech from their car and they shoot at me in a t-bone fashion. i swerve out of the way and stop my forward momentum with my backwards face and hand. they come to an almost stop within feet of me and jet off while i am spitting out chunks of my teeth. i start to get up when i notice my finger is crooked at a 30 degree angle and twisted, in the middle and i can't really move my mouth as it is already swollen up (and still is). i get my stuff together and get of the bike adding my bloodshed to the street that has seen so much in it's life to nyssa's and start banging on the door for someone to please be home. at this point i know i'm fucked. i am not going to be able to eat very well anymore right now. and the pain is quite a nuisance, like having little nanobots with jackhammers going to town on my head.

and i get a ride to the hospital (thanks ten (10) and melanie!)
now...
i am getting my finger pinned back together tomorrow and am working on borrowing alot more money than i am comfortable with at the moment. what i need to ask is if anyone know a dentist preferably in the eastbay they can refer me too. i dont know how much i can pay but i can do payment plans and have a secure job.

i think i may try and have a benefit also.......and no you can't have my tooth fragments.

thanks for hearing me out.

in painful stricken solidarity

    </a>
										<div>I found this on line!

BECAUSE being a hot fat girl is a lot of work and is undervalued or unrecognized. Because a fat girl still has to pay more money for uglier clothes or spend 11 hours at the thrift store to find anything hot to wear. Because if you take the elevator people think you’re lazy but if you’re on the treadmill people laugh. Because men like John Goodman and Bernie Mac get to have careers on television but sitcom moms of three still have size-two waists. Because even feminist magazines publish fat-phobic articles under the guise of it being a “health issue.” Because anti-capitalist activists still use expressions like “fat capitalist pig.” Because girls are dieting at the age of nine. Because side effects of the most popular diet drugs are seizures, heart failure, fecal urgency, breast cancer, lung disease, insomnia, nausea and vomiting, dangerously high blood pressure, abnormal heartbeat, psychosis, strokes, hallucinations and sudden death. Because the Cooper Institute’s ongoing study of 30,000 people has found that those who are fittest live the longest, no matter what they weigh. Because the doctor who said that there were 30,000 “obesity-related” deaths each year received over $2 million in research funding from Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers. Because that study prompted the FDA to approve Phen-Phen and Redux. Because fat hatred is a money-making industry. Because fat people who exercise live longer than thin people who don’t. Because if you lose weight ’cause you’re sick people tell you how great you look. Because hatred is so ingrained in every single one of us, especially inside the heart of even the hottest fat girl. Because even the most progressive people don’t talk or write about it. Because I am tired of being ignored, invisible, de-sexualized and told that I have such a pretty face. Because it’s not fat that kills, it’s fear of fat. For all that and more I am a part of the HOT FAT GIRL REVOLUTION!

<div>would you ever let your body image stop you?
I have been thinking a lot about body image lately and how much we can let our own self worth cause us to stop things we like or never attempt to try new things because of our own fears or self loathing so this is a bit of a rant..
I haven't experienced this in a long time but as a youth I was definitely in that I hate my body state so why would anyone else love my body.
It has taken me so many years to feel good about my body as is that I am at the point I find it hard to understand why someone would limit themselves because of size or shapes ...
I wish as people we could embrace our bodies more and accept them and maybe in that acceptance we can move towards making changes in our bodies if thats what we want but doing it out of a place of love rather repulsion.
I know there are people out their that are afraid to go swimming because of what people will say , or they wont have sex (which thats the craziest one to me !) because of a fear or loathing of there flab...
I say we challenge ourselves to love our bodies more and do those things we are afraid to do!
I found this video and love it!!!
