My Testimonials

August 15, 2004
George is a super master jedi who plays the banjo with ferocity. When he is in a room, others present likely wish to become him, without, of course, the jarring knowledge of the bodily/cognitive shift that would likely to raise the bar of one's consciousness to such an extreme degree that one's psyche would dissipate into the ether even if the physical switch were permanently successful. A master architect with a cornucopia of inspired ecological ideals, George takes his genius in humble stride--so humble that one may at times wonder if there is more than a fine line between brilliance and idiocy. Perhaps George is among the first to suggest that indeed the line is a vast ocean with multiple dimensions.

Arts: Producing ‘Miss Saigon’ On the Cheap Pays Off, By: Ken Bullock

You can buy a toy helicopter at the Dollar Store, but Ten Red Hen Productions has beaten that price and delivered the goods in the form of The 99-cent Miss Saigon at the Willard Middle School Metalshop Theater, with much, much more (although the program cover displays a tiny ‘copter propelled by big chopsticks into a wide-open mouth as its prou... read more

Here's a project I've been working on over the last couple of years detailing various facets of commercial green buildings. Some of these projects are pretty cool, but none of them reach the level of inspiration or innovation which I'm aspiring towards. Nonetheless any step in the right direction should be commended.

If you've ever been curious about Green Buildings and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), take some of the tours and you'll get a nice snapshot. In the... read more

Last night's opening went really well. We'll see how the reviews go. Triple Point showed up and supported us. The nerves really kick in when my friends are in the audience. There wasn't a place in the audience where I couldn't see someone I knew, so I stared right into the followspot and now I think I've burned a hole in my retina.

Should you be curious about the show, take a look at some of the pictures shot by Stephen Chan.

The roof over my garage is the perfect spot for growing Herbs and Veggies. Southern exposure, kitchen window view. As a means towards achieving that vision, I'm helping James Kalin pro totype the Green Roof on the LBOW project. In my system, run-off water will fall into the Slow Sand Filter. I'll have to check with a structural engineer to make sure I can support the additional weight.

James showed me the GreenGrid (www.greengridroofs.com) trays going on the LBOW roof. It's ... read more

As part of the LBOW (LEED Building on Wheels), we're prototyping the green roof/gray water system at my cottage. James dropped off the Slow-Sand Filter at the house 3 weeks ago. Kitchen sink water is considered blackwater in California codes.

"These slow sand filters provide individual households with safe drinking water from surface water sources. Our patented SSFx* provides up to 450 gallons per day, and the SSF-1.25 supplies up to 1.25 gallons per minute, or 1800 gallons per day -... read more

cow silhouette photo photo: Leonardo Pallotta via flickr Hopefully you've gotten the message that expansion of beef cattle pastures are responsible for the majority of new deforestation in the Amazon. And hopefully have heard the good news that Brazil's largest supermarket chains, as well as the World Bank, have taken steps to help stop that. Well, it's all not so simple, accordin...

USGBC-lobby-leed.jpg Photos by Eric Laignel via Envision and Metropolis The new US Green Building Council offices are a joy to behold, lovely (if conservative) design with the greenest choices of materials and furnishings. (We admired them here) Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair of the USGBC is justifiably proud that it just got certified Platinum, saying “The vision of the space was to exemplify everything a LEED building is: high-performing, resource-efficient, healthy and productive.” But can it be certified LEED Platinum? Who certifies the certifiers?...

"The ITC green building may not be a regular stop on the tourist calendar, but it is a monument in its own right."...

100000 dollar bill photo photo: Ricardo Villela via flickr It's pretty much conventional wisdom in the green community that the cost of preventing climate change now will be less than the cost of doing nothing and trying to adapt later, even if it costs 1-2% of global GDP. Well, IPCC chairman Dr Rajendra Pachauri has take one more step,

summer of social good mashable image Help Mashable's Summer of Social Good and Tweet Your #EcoGood This summer, we've been helping bring awareness to Mashable's ambitious Summer of Social Good campaign. The Summer of Social Good is described as "the first large scale online charitable campaign to raise funds strictly online through the power of Social Media and the Internet." To do this, the campaign uses different social media tools to spread the word about the great work these organizations do in order to raise money to support their efforts. The four charities this campaign will benefit ar...
