about me
Hello! My name is Tess and I love all sorts of things. And the things that I don't love I am probably just indifferent to, but rarely hate. I'm not a person to dwell on the unpleasant. I have a few creative businesses, handbags for my website, www.madebytess.com and costuming via www.misstess.com I have many hobbies, and seem to collect them easily. Generally, I am a crafter, though sometimes I dabble in art, photography, and cooking. I am slowly working on becoming your grandmother. I crochet washcloths, and I save strange and mysterious things that I may need someday. When that someday comes, I won't be able to find the mystery object, but c'est la vie. If I'm not busy working on becoming your psychedelic grandmother, I'm busy making wacky costumes for fun, mardi gras and burning man. I like to have that variety. Washcloths and strange hats. That about sums me up. Oh yes and come visit me at garment district. We can roll around in dollar-a-pound together!

So I'm pretty active on flickr. I share pics of what I'm wearing, what I'm doing, but mostly my daily self portrait. Every once in a while my animals grace the pages of my flickr stream. I take too many pictures of them, they are all so pretty and photogenic if I put all the pics up people would riot on the streets or something. Just kidding. But anyways. . .
When people I don't know comment or fave a photo I usually take a peak at their photo stream +/or profile just out of curiosity. Sometimes, on my fashion or self portraits I get folks favoriting my pics for fetish reasons which I usually don't mind unless their flickr stream consists entirely of penises (It's like talking to someone who only talks about their penis), their other favorites are degrading to women, or they make inappropriate comments of a sexual nature to me.
So I put up this picture of Maxine today. It's pretty easy to tell the commenters who are cat fans. When I saw that "BLoodyRose20's" favorited my photo, I checked out their photos out of curiosity. Nothing. Checked the profile, nothing. Then I checked their favorite and found this: www.flickr.com/photos/blo.../favorites/ Apparently this person likes ass as much as they like pussy.
Honestly I like ass as much as the next person, and I don't think that Maxine is getting degraded in anyway by being in the company of ladies asses. And you know, this is just really funny. What do you think?
ps if you are on flickr...let me know! I'm flickr.com/photos/madebytess

Yesterday I composed a list of what I considered successes of firefly and areas that I needed to improve on (in terms of packing, my clothing, food, and costumfest) but for some reason when I sat down to write I forgot most of them. I wanted to write all my ideas down so I had some sort of accountability in the future, and a record....so I guess I'll write down what I can remember:
Costumefest: Went amazingly well! All the people were happy (except for one person who was likely tripping and got very confused and aggravated when I didn't have any supplies left) and seemed to enjoy their creations. Word got to me that the bustle tutus were getting called "Bootie Tuties" which seems infinity clever of the fireflies to coin. The biggest failure of this whole thing was the moop factor. The actual tutus, once constructed, do not moop at all and are quite strong and durable. However, the construction of the tutu's is a bit more unwiedly and when folks were getting creative bits of tulle were blowing alllllll over the place. So next time I do such a thing I'll make sure to have a trash fence.
And thats all I can think of right now. Oh I have it:
Tape a notebook to my hip. Then I can just write things down when I come up with them instead of hoping to remember. I blame the sleep deprivation. That must be it.
*********************
Okay the memory seems to be jogged.
Good: Rainboots to protect my feet from being muddy.
Bad: Rainboots that are too small. My toes are still numb and have the worlds most disgusting blood blisters. This is worse than what roller derby does to my feet!
Good: Juice and food is good. Easy snacks to grab and go because it's highly unlikely that I'll eat something that requires preperations. I ate and shared lots of lemonade, mango oj and ginger snap cookies. String cheese was nummy, and avocados and oranges were good even though they required a bit of prep. I am going to prepare a lot more foods beforehand for transformus as a test for burning man. Burritos, breakfast burritos, desert burritos, and some plain burritos. Just kidding I'll probably only bring the first 2. I'm also going to prepare some lentil soup beforehand. I'm not too keen on bringing a stove but I have no problems at all eatting it cold. I ate cold canned baked beans for 4 meals in a row at burning man last year, obviously my standards are very, very low.
Bad: No cereal. Being that I'm too lazy to bring a cooler (I mean busy. Very busy) I felt like a jerk storing my soy milk in a friend's cooler so I didn't even touch the stuff. Besides. I didn't really have utensils. And I don't want to bring them. Less stuff=awesome! I'm trying to plan how i can fit all my stuff for burning man in one large backpack. Which may be impossible but I'm going to try!
Participating in Miss Firefly was a blast. I had fun, got naked, and got titled "Rookie of the Year". I'm just kind of pretending I didn't embarrass myself hugely, I was a bit inebriated but I'm relying on the fact that it was a. amusing and b. the audience was also inebriated. I know the judges were. Next year, more bribes. And a better routine. I have some tricks up my sleeve.
As far as outfits go...i didn't have enough warm things to wear! After being in NC all spring and summer I foolishly assumed everything in the whole world was hot hot hot. I couldn't wear all my cute cloths because I was freezing! Next year, more warm cloths. And more bathing suit outfits. I got a lot of comments on my ass in my circus ballerina costume. Probably because it was hanging out, but no matter.
Okay, obviously I remembered a few things. Time to go back to work. I've been sitting here typing and have received about 10 emails that need my immediate attention...not to mention the slew of emails I received while traveling without a laptop. That's one more thing. Buy a laptop. Then I won't be up a creek and pissed off at my husband when he decides last second that he needs our shared laptop at home. . .
Anyway, peace and love! Tutu pics up eventually!

Working at home alone (John is working out of town until august and comes home on weekends) makes me a little desperate for validation :)
The big bow one is for me. I got the dress at the costume swap thing at burning man. I can't exactly go selling something I got in that spirit, so I made something for myself! I'm so excited by it! It's really awesome in person, the bow is made of sequins. Sequins I say!
