Ohhhhh Great and Generous Universe, and all other powers for good that be, I've been told that if I make my intentions known by clearly asking for what I need, they may very well come true. So, I am now presenting my case, to cast the following wants, needs, and requests - like a message in a bottle - into the ethers as I'm in great need of a cosmic ear along with the support and assistance of those who have the want and ability to help in some way...
Sure, I have issues of a personal nat...

Try to not let today's world get you down...
Though, at times, heaviness and negativity seemingly fills the air, look closely... because there is beauty, great and small, that surrounds us and permeates our everyday. And though memories from our past and dreams of our future may manipulate our perception of the present or even distract us from ever experiencing it at all, they are but illusions: there is only the Now and how you choose to utilize and interpret that concurrently ever-prese...

Today, September 11th, 2005, four years after the greatest disaster to hit the continental United States, we find ourselves again rubbing our stinging and bloodshot eyes in disbelief and frustration, as our nation is once more shaken to its very foundations, because only two weeks ago, Hurricane Katrina outdid the attacks on the twin towers by some, as of yet unknown, multiple of 3,000... because each day they continue to discover more and more bodies.
Though I live in the Bay Area, and i...

Dreamer, Writer, Comic, Chameleon, Disc Jockey, Philosopher, Activist, Seeker, Artist, Kindred Spirit... Dear Friend.
It happened in early 1999... I interviewed for the room, I interviewed the next candidate scheduled after me too. I decided to take the other place and keep Craig as a friend. What a great story that one is.
Oooh the times since then... :O)
Love you C,

about me
Thanks so much for taking an interest in, and the time to, enjoy my photography and the supporting commentary (see my image gallery at www.flickr.com/photos/culturesubculture ). My name is Craig, and since 1998 I've explored my corner of the world as a self-directed social documentary, fine art, portrait, live performance, and activist photographer.
Though I lived in San Francisco for almost ten years - exploring the diversity of underground communities and performance artists while developing my talents as a photographer and defacto cultural anthropologist of contemporary tribes - my heart and soul belongs to New Orleans. Though I had, many times, been back and forth for twenty years, it wasn't until early September of 2005, after the advent of Hurricane Katrina and the Great Flood, that I felt compelled to fully commit to becoming a member of the community, to join the struggle, and to participate in the healing process by contributing my talents as a visual artist. On February 18th, 2006, I departed San Francisco with two other recovery volunteers, a tent, and a very small savings. However, what I expected to be a month experience turned into over two years and about 200,000 photos. I've chronicled the story of a traumatized city and the courageous and determined people who fight to preserve their way of life, a way of being that is based on a deeply profound culture, heritage, and history.
Though this gallery includes many images that look back to and share a variety of my experiences in San Francisco and at Burning Man, it is first and foremost dedicated to the people of New Orleans... especially my friends and acquaintances from the Bywater, the Faubourg Marigny, the Treme, and the French Quarter. My heartfelt sentiments go out to those who have, for centuries, endured negligence, corruption, exploitation, slavery, and gentrification... having to fight for their cultural identity and civil rights in the face of the moral crusade, political indifference, cultural homogeneity, and economic imperialism... not to mention having survived the greatest natural disaster and political failure in the history of the United States.
