Well, there's a whole lot I can say about Alan, but the truth is, none of it would be enough to cover the vast number of changes, eccentricities, abilities, and highly valued aspects one can find in this man. He and I share something very important -- a strong will and urge to constantly improve ourselves, to present challenges to ourselves which really shove us the fuck out our comfort zone. For me, that was children, marriage and quitting drinking. For Alan so far that's been long-term relationships, Landmark Forum work, corporate America labor, and more creative pursuits than I have space to mention. Through it all, through all the ups and downs (and there certainly have been both) his support for my own quest has been unflagging. Every email I get from Alan is upbeat, committal, optimistic and excited about the future. This is a guy who never blows smoke anywhere, unless he's trying to crack you up. He shoots straight from the hip, gets caught up in exciting trends in his life, but always returns to the base foundation of his care (his infinite care) in his friends and loved ones. This is a man who will never desert you. He might dissapear for a while every now and then when a new idea or way of life sieze him, but if you need him, just call out and he's there.
There have been times when Alan and I have not seen eye to eye, fa shizay. But I know our love of the block-rockin' beats of the Beasties will always pull us back to where we started out, teaching Misha how to beg, plead, whine and bitch for women's favors and drinking ourselves silly at Mullah's. Maybe I'll write a book about the two of us. The title would be, "Here's A Little Story, I Got To Tell." Or maybe, "Once Upon A Time Not Long Ago, When People Were Behaved And Lived Life Slow." No matter which title I choose, the end will read:
He came for "love, beauty and connection".
And by God he brought it, too.
PS. OK, the title REALLY is: "Now All We Really Want Is Girls, Girls, Girls, Girls, Girls, Girls, Girls, Girls, Girls."
