Our dear friend Gimpy has been in dire straights, and is almost out of the deep end and back onto dry land. Read about it here:
blog.myspace.com/index.cfm
Over the years he has given a lot of time and energy, many times at his own expense to help people out, make shows happen, setup crazy Burning man Structures, and attempts not to blow people up at NIMBY. He can also work magic on anything that runs on gasoline and the guy I want to be around when civilization collapses cause he’ll keep shit working!
Our Government hands out billions to banks that give bad loans, and auto makers that produce cars we can’t afford or don’t want. However, they will take every last red cent and piece of property from some Joe Blow common guy because we don’t matter. Well, politely, FUCK THAT.
We’re gonna play some music, get a little drunky in the pants, and have a mid winter party for our pal and get him out of hot water and back on his feet. Now, many of you easily drop $25 at a club when you go out ($5 cover and $20 drinks) so we’re not asking for much. You’ll get your money’s worth and the cash is going to the best cause all year.
GIMPY AID 2009 FAQ
Q: Who’s Gimpy?
A: Gimpy is our pal who’s usually limping around from some accident. He can be seen climbing the Thunderdome in a kilt or ripping the head off a pesky motor that’s giving him lip.
Q: So what the hell happened to him?
A: See the link up top for everything in his own words
Q: Hey man, the economy sucks for everyone, why should I care?
A: Because he’s been dealing with this for years and hasn’t said a word to anyone, quietly taking care of his business like a man. He’s out of options and short on time. If we don’t lend a hand to a friend, then we are shitty fair weather friends at best, and he’s going to lose everything. No thanks. Let’s drink booze for a good cause!
Q: That sucks. What can I do to help?
A: Show up with $25 at the door and be ready for fun!
Q: I’m busy Friday, can I still drop him some cash?
A: Yes, please, but do it soon, he’s got deadlines.
Q: Can I drive by on Friday and just throw some cash at the door guy for Gimpy?
A: As much as we’d love to see you, we understand time constraints. We’ll be there setting up and can take donations anytime and appreciate anyone doing so.
Q: This is an open Bar?
A: Yup! We’re supplying well and mixers while it lasts. If we run low there will be restock runs to the store 2 blocks away.
Q: Can I BYOB?
A: You bet! If you have extra, drop it on the bar and add to the collection.
Q: If I BYOB do I still have to pay?
A: It’s a fund raiser. Wouldn’t be a very good one if we didn’t raise any funds now would it?
Q: Can I volunteer to help?
A: We are depending on Volunteers to help out.
Q: If I volunteer do I still have to pay?
A: FUND RAISER. Until the IRS accepts Good will, Good Intentions, and volunteering instead of cash, the offer is appreciated but won’t do Gimpy any good.
Q: What if it’s a REAL big help?
A: You mean like if you bring a Keg with CO2 and a jockey box? If so email shatter@sonic.net and tell him what you can do that will help out in a BIG way. Have a LOT of booze to contribute? Email him, he’s working out logistics.
Q: How late are we going?
A: Well, you know how these things go…. Can’t sleep at the space, but chances are the sun will be up before the lights go on. However, due to many reason not mentioned here, people will only be allowed in until 2am, after that no Ins and Outs, or even Ins.
Q: If this is an Art Gallery can I display some art?
A: YES!!! We have a lot of art rails that are currently not in use. Not so much room for the event with 3d sculptures but if it will hang on a wall we can display it easy enough.
Q: I’d love to DJ the party, who do I talk to?
A: drop Shatter@sonic.net an email. If you don’t know him personally, list references please.
Q: How big is this space anyway?
A: If you haven’t been there, its decent sized, but it’s not a warehouse or remotely close to being one. 100 people is fun, 150 is packed but tolerable if you know everyone’s name, however you might end up knowing a few biblically by accident depending on clothing levels. So, to that end there will have to be some control and possibly hit “full status”. Early arrival is better than fashionably late.
Q: What else can we do there?
A: Really depends on you. Have a video projector? We can hook it up and show videos. Karaoke Machine? Sounds like fun! Guitar Hero? Bring it? Touch bases with shatter@sonic net and work out the details.
Q: Will Gimpy actually be there?
A: YES!
Q: Anything else?
A: Punch & Pie
********* EDIT
Q: What's his paypal since I can't read his blog and I want to help but I'm too far away to make it to the party
A: akathebrain(a t)hotmail(d o t)com
