Tears began to form in my eyes as I sat on the small raft waiting for the others to emerge from the depths. I tried my best to prepare for everything. Our travel plans were laid down over a year ago. Monies were saved. Flights were booked. Hours of special training was endured as anticipation continued to build. Sitting on the small raft as the light rain began to fall, I was thankful that the tiny drips from the sky would mask the tears should they decide to fall from my eyes. I’m not... read more

I got a really nice new car on my first day at work. Two weeks later, our company sponsored the AFI film festival in Hollywood so I was treated to VIP red carpet treatment and subsequently was allowed to take a twelve day vacation the next day. The sun was already beginning to set, and while the others were content to retire back to their less than luxurious overpriced hotel rooms, I was more interested in taking one of those long walks on the beach that I’d always read about…and besides, I wasn’t even tired yet. In spite of a day chuck full of activities, I was not ready to crawl into bed for a few hours of mindless TV watching before drifting off to sleep. No sir, I wanted to make the most of this trip even if it meant just walk... read more
