about me
My name is David "Thorne" Luckhardt, but I answer to Thorne in the Faire and reenactment communities. Visiting faire since '67, working them since the mid 70's. Did a Hawker ->Security ->Hawker transition at Black Point and have been with the Cardiff Rose Fencing Academy and Guild since the early 80's. I've been shooting a matchlock since the late 80's, oversee some black powder shooting at various Faires and events. Here is a link to my "sample rules" for black powser, taken from various sources:

My wife and I lived in the UK in '95-96 where I got involved in the Sealed Knot Society (as you do) doing English Civil War reenactment battles and Living History. When we returned I formed a group with the same name as my SK Rgmt -- the Earl of Stamford's Rgmt of Foote, Western Association, Army of Parliament., member English Civil War Society of Amercia (ECWSA). I go back to the UK annually for ECW battle reenactments, although this year we also attended Bourtange in Holland.

So in a confusing shuffling of hats, I do some events with the Fencing Academy, most with the Cardiff Rose Swordsmen Guild, and others as Stamfords -- a mix of 16th and 17th C military and living history. We actively join and support the RMS (northern St. Mikes) at their living history and shooting events at various sites, the most recent being the School of the Renaissance Soldier out in the Delta.

I've been "running" (such as it is) the Fair Oaks battle drill demos for the past few years. As staid as it may seem, I really prefer to do drill and "mock battle" demos for the public, as they can clearly see there is no blood or bullets...and learn more by seeing the demos of how the various weapons and units work together.

The European reenactors are VERY interested in attending a 16th-17th C military event here in California, and I hope to interest various groups to come out and play with each other so we can build the military reenactment culture up to the point where we can hold our own events -- not rely on Ren Faires or Celtic Festivals for venues.

I've got a resource page and some other pages up at various sites, mostly for English Military reenactors/rennies but also of use for those of Celtic and Germanic persuasions :
