Everyone should know...

I had a scary dream last night that a friend was choking on a piece of watermelon & nobody cold save her! We even tried the Heimlich....the whole time in my dream I was wondering if I was doing it correctly.....I was so freaked out in my dream, running around yelling for help because it wasn't working & dialing 911.... I work up with a horrible fright.
Since I hadn't checked out how it was supposed to be done in a long while I looked it up.
And since this could happen anywhere to anyone I thought EVERYONE should have refresher too. I love you guys & don't want anyone dying in front of you if you can help it.

According to the directions I was doing it right in my dream....but as dreams go....it didn't work..Phooey!

Heimlich Maneuver

AHA Recommendation
Abdominal thrusts (also known as the “Heimlich maneuver” (HIM'lik mah-NOO'ver) are a series of under-the-diaphragm abdominal thrusts. They’re recommended for helping a person who's choking on a foreign object (foreign-body airway obstruction).

To simplify training of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, abdominal thrusts are recommended for rescuers to use in clearing a blocked airway in conscious adults and children over the age of 1. It's not recommended for choking in infants under age 1.

Abdominal thrusts lift the diaphragm and force enough air from the lungs to create an artificial cough. The cough is intended to move and expel an obstructing foreign body in an airway. Each thrust should be given with the intent of removing the obstruction.
