Our Congress, Our Hacks?

So, I just read the following article on Fox news:

www.foxnews.com/story/0,29...877,00.html

in which Steney Hoyer, a US Congressman, the Majority Whip (or some other pernicious title), presents a rebuttal to King George's recent weekly radio address about how King George is going to veto the recent attempt by the Democrats(and even some Republicans!) to fluffil some campaign promises vis-a-vis improving health-care coverage for children "in this great land of ours". Now, what is interesting is two things.

First, that the Democrats are trying to fluffil King George's own 2004 campaign promise to provide more health coverage to more children...and GWB is going to veto their attempt.

Secondly--and more importantly in my opinion--is how poorly Steney Hoyer brings that point across "on behalf of the American people". And what I mean by that is...his statements don't show any passion or real outrage that King George has broken yet another promise to the citizens of the United States. Sadly, the quality of political leadership in the House of Representatives has sucken so low (sic?) that there is no real anger in the rhetoric; empty promises by King George are pointed out as an afterthought. Devoid of any flashy television spotlights, the prose of the rhetoric to His Heinous, by His Loyal Opposition(tm) falls flat like a pancake on the shores of passion the puddle (also more and more frequently tm).

So, I now find myself asking most probably mostly myself by this point:

What ever happened to the Republic? Was it an illusion from the beginning? Has America's leadership always been this passion lite? Is that the brand that American idealism now exports around the world? Is this the only trade item of worthy note...other than plane loads of people to torture? Or are we im*cough*Blackwater*cough*porting that too now?

Yes, I am asking my fellow citizens if they are tortured by logic much. Because, it isn't logic only that is being tortured. "No." Say that along with me and mean it.
