Somali man stoned to death for adultery
(in Separation of church and state)
More fun and games from religion-controlled Somalia. But hey, they have a heart. They're letting his girlfriend live until she gives birth:

Somali man, '112', weds girl, 17
(in Separation of church and state)
Hundreds of people have attended a wedding in central Somalia between a man who says he is 112 years old, and his teenage wife.
Mr Dore said he and his bride - who is young enough to be his great-great-grand-daughter - were from the same villag...

Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
(in Childfree by Choice)
So, a toddler screams his head off on a plane about to embark, interferes with safety announcements, annoys the hell out of everyone, and the crew (quite rightly) asks the mother to leave the plane.
And then, the airline later apologizes to the...

I was born in 1968, the year that RFK and MLK were gunned down.
I was too young to remember Armstrong’s historic moon landing, but I remember nightly images on TV news of the Vietnam war, and how so many were moved to protest it.
I remember my boyish glee (and five trips to the local theater) in the summer of 1977, when a previously-unknown film called Star Wars changed the way that movies were made forever.
I watched the Iranian hostage crisis, the Jonestown massacre, and the Reaga...

1. Have their hot-headed, "I'm such a maverick" presidential candidate be intimidated into picking a VP choice by religious wingnuts.
2. Said VP candidate turns out to be a vapid, vacuous, clueless, stupid, phony bimbo with no qualifications whatsoever, with a reputation for being vindictive, and up to her ears in scandal back home. Even her supporters admit it in Alaska (I was just there).
3. Hide said VP candidate from all reasonable press inquiry, and invoke "sexism" and the "libera...

[Former Wasilla mayor John Stein] says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." The librarian, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire her for not giving "full support" to the mayor.
Here's one of ...

She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.
Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.
She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000.
Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.
She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.
She's solidly in line...

Knife At Lunch Gets 10-Year-Old Girl Arrested At School
OCALA, Fla. -- A 10-year old Ocala girl brought her lunch to school and a small kitchen knife to cut it. She now faces a felony charge after being arrested. The school and the sheriff's office disagree on the reason for the arrest.
School officials say the 5th grader was brown-bagging it. She brought a piece of steak for her lunch, but she also brought a steak knife. That's when deputies were called.
It happened in the cafeteria...

Mist and magic in the trees of Tilden Park, Berkeley
"Had I been present at the Creation, I would have given some useful hints for the better ordering of the universe."
~ attributed to Alfonso the Wise, King of Castile (13th century), after studying the Ptolemaic system
" To predict the behavior of ordinary people in advance, you only have to assume that they will always try to escape a disagreeable situation with the smallest possible expenditure of intelligence."
~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Just because your tattoo has Chinese characters in it doesn't make you spiritual. It's right above the crack of your ass. And it translates to "beef with broccoli." The last time you did anything spiritual, you were praying to God you weren't pregnant. You're not spiritual. You're just drunk!
-- Bill Maher, one of the new rules for 2006
"I want to be young and wild, and then I want to be middle-aged and rich, and then I want to be old
and annoy people by pretending that I'm deaf."
~ Edmund Blackadder
about me
Professional musician and writer, among other scary things. I'm both a soloist and play with various others, including ongoing work with Patrick Ball (Celtic harpist). Recent collaborations have included performing with Kitka (amazing Balkan vocalists), Draam (award-winning Swedish folk musicians), as well as Wyrewood (UK-based early music and electronic group). I play way too many instruments for my own good (last count: about 80); they are slowly taking over my home.
Proud possessor of a Ph.D. in medieval history and philosophy from the University of Leeds, UK (wrote my doctoral thesis on the crusades). Despite all of this, my reputation on Tribe seems to sink at a steady pace...

Much love too you.

Oh geez, does this man really NEED another testimonial? Like, if you haven't figured he is funny, wittily insane, will make you spurt soda through your nose because you've laughed too much at his off the wall banter....his secret obsession with Melodias, beets, Jedi gear, Medieval facts, are endearing...if oddly creepy.
AND he happens to be a fan-tab-u-lous musician.
AND, I secretly think there is a sincere, kind-hearted person underneath that wacky persona...
YEAH, like he needs another testimonial ;)

Although I have only spent a few hours with Tim, I can say that I'm honored to know him, his wit and humor, his care for other artists and dancers, and to share music with this amazing and talented artist

Tim...an enigma wrapped in a conundrum...
Musical talent (probably too much for one person really), sharp intellect, razor wit and gives really great, squishy, long-lastin' hugs :)
