My Testimonials

March 23, 2008
Darren is a fine gentleman who is more than just the guy at tribe.net. He is funny and smart and always a good time. He has a secret sensitive side that I'm staring to see. Great for hugs and cuddles too!

Darren is one of the most committed guys I know. Committed to his dream, committed to his family, committed to his friends. I've watched him spend years building towards his dream, through sickness and in health, through prosperity and poverty. Darren will get to where he is going, and I'm really glad to know him.

House Finch hanging out

Originally uploaded by Darren Mckeeman.
You wanted pictures! Well, here is a house finch. Believe it or not, this house finch is a regular visitor to my fire escape, I just hadn't seen him (or his mate) since we put in the feeders. They are building a nest somewhere in the hood, and I always see him or his mate with some nest material on the fire escape.

I expect them to be more regular visitors now that they have found the feeder. I need to get the water fountain up and running for them though, that's the biggest attraction to birds next to food and greenery.

Visit my Flickr (by clicking on Mr. House Finch) to see the other picture I have of him and to see the pictures in finer detail. I just took mthis picture about 15 minutes ago.

I've been increasingly unhappy with Livejournal lately. Not that I actually have a paid account, but I used to. LJ was bought by a Russian firm last year, and while the site is still quite active I find that I am just not as happy with it because I could do all my journaling over on the site of my day job.

Today, I actually read the text of an interview with the new owner of Livejournal, and I am just floored by his responses. I am sure something is being lost in translation, but I can't believe the contempt this guy shows towards everyone. I thought I was cynical and jaded, but this guy makes me look like Deepak Chopra.

As a result of that, I am going to start posting more on my profile at http://people.tribe.net/tjcrowley/. It's got a lot of the same features LJ has (RSS feeds, etc) and it'll give me a reason to keep the site up constantly. I'm trying to figure out how to archive my entire LJ now, and once I have done that I very well may delete this journal. It's not something I'm going to do suddenly, but I want to be rather deliberate and make sure that folks know this is me not wanting to support a company that holds its users in such contempt by providing them with free content so they can make money off me and my words via advertising.

My Blog

So, if you are a complete nut about horror movies then you probably know about the infamous LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT. Most of my readers will think I'm talking about a particularly overwrought band from Los Angeles, but in reality this is the title of perhaps one of the more infamous "lost" films in movie history. When you start talking about lost silent films, the two that always come up are the 10 hour version of GREED (based on Frank Norris' MCTEAGUE, another of my dear San Francisco novels) ... read more

I have decided that I need a vacation. In the spirit of that, I have decided to start taking regular vacations. Next year, I have decided that I am going to go to Guam during July of 2009.

I have a place to stay on Guam. I believe I'll stay there the whole month. The interesting bit about this is that I can work from there if I really have to. I will try not to, though. Since I have flight priveleges on Delta, I am going to fly from San Francisco to Tokyo, and take another plane that is a... read more

So, today I basically got the go-ahead to go full speed ahead with the rewrite project. I have convinced management that I know how to scale Ruby on Rails.

I think you folks should get not only the most stable but the shiniest and the coolest toys to play with, since SOME of you are paying for it. Because of this, I've entered into talks with Sun and MySQL to run the next version of tribe.net on nothing but Sun Microsystems equipment with Enterprise level database support. We're also going... read more
