READ THIS!!!! Save the Cow Palace, Save the Dickens fair!

<div>URGENT MESSAGE FROM RED BARN PRODUCTIONS ABOUT THE DICKENS FAIR AND THE COW PALACE

State Senator Leland Yee Ph.D., under pressure from the Daly City Council, is proposing to “surplus” the Cow Palace and sell it to Daly City. Daly City will then sell most of the land to condo developers and pocket the profits. Letter writing WILL stop this. Senator Yee has ONLY heard from Daly City. Let him know you oppose selling the Cow Palace!!!

Here is a link to Senator Yee's website and his press release on the legislation he submitted Friday February 22nd to the State Legislature, (no voting date is set - but it could be soon). This bill wrongly proposes to SELL the Cow Palace to Daly City!
dist08.casen.govoffice.com/index.asp

We must defeat SB1527 or the Dickens Fair will likely die.
It would take years, if it’s even possible, to relocate and resurrect the Dickens Fair.
Red Barn Productions has studied all the venues that could physically host the Dickens Fair and there are NO other places that currently work. All are either too expensive, too small, are unavailable between Thanksgiving and Christmas OR require unaffordable retrofits in order to be permitted for public assembly. So,
Save the Cow Palace and Save The Dickens Fair. It's that simple AND serious.

Here's the scoop:

The Cow Palace has a perfectly good plan to meet the needs of the local community and Daly City by providing them 13 acres of its’ unused land. Yes, rock concerts bring public problems, according to Daly City, but they also bring public $$$ to the local community. Senator Yee's Legislation SB1527 is doubly wrong. It proposes we, as California State Citizens, sell OUR Cow Palace to Daly City so they can bulldoze it and profit by selling it to private developers. If that isn't bad enough, SB1527 also deprives us of our RIGHT to use a facility that WE own!!

This is like selling off a chunk of Golden Gate Park because a nearby neighborhood proclaims “unanimously” it needs more space for development. It doesn't work that way. We get to vote too...by writing letters and emails and calling his office. Officials can't just decide to take a public asset and sell it…unless it is truly “surplus”. The Cow Palace is not “surplus”. We must stop this proposed sell-off of our property.

Here's what you can do to stop SB1527 and SAVE THE COW PALACE:

#1 Act Quickly. Senator Yee may believe he is serving the public, but he has only heard from Daly City. Let’s give him the other 99% of the picture before he gets any further down this road.

Write a Letter
Write to Senator Yee today. Quickly. Early letters are more powerful. Send personal letters to the address below the sample text at the bottom of this notice. Get it in today’s mail, so he receives it on Monday or Tuesday.

Write an Email
Personal emails may be sent via his website “contact” at page: legplcms01.lc.ca.gov/PublicL...pup.aspx
Emails are not as good as snail mail letters, but they are also effective. Be sure to write in “SB1527” as it is so new it is not on his issue list. …

Call the Office
You can pick up the phone and call his office, see dist08.casen.govoffice.com/index.asp

YOU DO NOT NEED TO MENTION THE DICKENS FAIR. SIMPLY VOICE YOUR OPPOSITION TO SB1527. That’s it! Give reasons only if you want. The important thing is to contact him NOW.

#2 IF YOU LOVE THE DICKENS FAIR, forward this message to groups, friends and individuals and ask them to contact Senator Yee immediately.

#3 IF YOU LIVE in Senator Yee’s District #8 - see map on his site: www.sen.ca.gov/ftp/SEN/se...P08_300.JPG
…Contact him AS one of his constituents, (District 8 includes most of San Francisco in the West and South, and goes most of the way down the Peninsula). It is a very large district!

Sample Letter:

Dear Senator Yee,

As a California Citizen, and resident of (…your city…), I object to your proposed legislation to “sell the California Cow Palace”. While you may be responding to the needs of Daly City, please respect my rights to use this public facility. It may need work, but how many California public buildings need upgrading? If you want to help Daly City bring in new supermarkets and shopping to the area, let the Cow Palace deal directly with developers and Daly City to make use of the 13 acres the Cow Palace doesn't need. This will preserve my rights while helping the lives of local area citizens. It will also continue the flow of millions of dollars into the local economy annually. These revenues, generated by me and many thousands of others who use the Cow Palace, also help pay for police to patrol the area year-round as well as during big events.

Please reconsider SB1527. There is a better way to help Daly City and Bayshore than destroying the Cow Palace. I use it every year and plan to continue to use it for many years to come. It is not “surplus”; it is a vital community and cultural asset.

Thank you,

Signed,

(you)

    </a>
										<div>It is easy to take life for granted.
I have died twice in my lifetime.

Part 1.

Childhood ends the moment the concept of mortality is fully understood. It's through that loss of innocence, the time when a child lives to play without regard to physical or emotional consequences for actions taken that could be potentially detrimental to the heath and mental state of the individual, that determines the path to adulthood that an individual with choose. The choice is not always conscious and can span many years or may not ever be fully completed. Denial, suppression, understanding, acceptance, these are all ways that people cope with the fact that they will die. There is no other choice. "On a long enough timeline the survival rate for everyone drops to zero"

It is the ultimate denial or acceptance of mortality that shapes the character and demeanor of the individual inside the finite system.

Only through the knowledge and understanding that you have nothing can you attain nirvana.

individual |ˌindəˈvijəwəl|
noun
a single human being as distinct from a group, class, or family.

Individuals have such potential.

By denying the fact that death can occur at any time and in any given circumstance it is easy to say that something can be put off until tomorrow, a choice can be made at another time, or an experience will always be there to do in the future. It is easy to take for granted what is, and long after what is not. A perpetual sate of..... tomorrow.... Never exploring the full potential of the present moment. Fleetingly happy.

Acceptance of a finite lifetime (time spent in the world as we know it) allows a certain inhibition of actions. Sky diving sounds fun. Do it, The sun might not rise in the morning. Through acceptance an individual can grow in themselves and maintain a positive outlook over the course of their lifetime.

Part 2.

True love is the ultimate acceptance of pain.

A relationship consists of compromise between another's needs and desires relative to your own. When another's needs and desires do not align with your own a change must occur, either external or inside one or both of the individuals if the relationship is to thrive. If this change cannot be brought about, one or both of the individuals will seek outside stimuli.

The unequivocal love for another being is a beautiful thing, regardless of the other persons feelings and needs, so long as the person in love is not encroaching on the other person.

True love allows an individual to be devoted to a partner, it also allows the acceptance and happiness for the other party should they chose not to return the love offered.

Part 3.

A collective human subconsciousness.

	•	Technological advances in the same field on the same timeline for seemingly isolated cultures.
	•	Idea of life after death
	•	The tragic hero.
	•	Fairy tales.
	•	philosophies
	•	Similar religious concepts
	•	Shared dreams
	•	Spiritual visitations
	•	Myths

All just coincidence?

Part 4

The evolution of the collective versus the evolution of the individual.

We are facing a turning point. The evolution is of the species is no longer determined by favorable physical characteristics. We live in a world where cunning is the ultimate tool for survival and procreation.

Cunning is the application of intelligence for personal gain. A person can posses intellect and lack cunning. therefore cunning is a more favorable trait for the evolution of the individual.

Counter point.

Evolution has always been influenced by the favorable traits of the individual for the betterment or the whole species. Only thru coincidence does an individual bring stronger traits to the species. The idea that the individual serving his or her needs for personal gain only helps the species thru non-intentional happenstance.

Part 5

The need for a stronger word than love.

The english language in all it's complexities and endless ways to describe slight differences in nearly everything still manages to fall short when it comes to love. You either like someone or you love someone. There are different variances of course but somehow the word love just doesn't seem to cut it.

I think we need a word to express the feeling of being IN LOVE. There is no way to verbally convey the feeling that you are in love in the english language. "I am in love with you" somehow doesn't manage to get the point across.

    </a>
										<div>Make everything alright.

I am doing considerably well given events of late. I am currently struggling with my intellectual understanding for the needed end of a recent relationship, and my overwhelming contrary emotional response.

I understand the other side, perhaps all too well, but I am having such a difficult time letting go. I have relapsed into insomnia and a lack of desire to eat. But the thing that really gets me is that I am not too horribly depressed about all of it. I understand that I can't at this point in time provide her with what she wants, and I can accept that. On an intellectual level. But emotionally I feel a sea of changing emotion. Ranging from extreme happiness to despair.

It's really hard. But I have to try.

Work hasn't changed much, I spent much of yesterday mapping out a section of the floor and handing it down to the italians to finish drawing. I have been busking on the weekends down at Fisherman's Wharf. I am making more than it is costing me, so that is good.

This morning was Arial training, but I was too tired to actually accomplish very much. The rest of the afternoon was spent online and reading a sci-fi novel. Then finally wrapping up the evening with sushi.

On another note. I have decided to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe this year. So I will be out of the country from mid july to late august, returning just in time to spend a week on the playa. If anyone is interested in making it out to the fringe I could use the company.

That's all for now.

    </a>
										<div>At least this love.

It's an amazing feeling to be wholly in love with someone, even if that love isn't returned in the same way. It's like nothing that happens can remove you from that spot. Unconditional. I finally get that, and it's good. Though I don't have her in the same sense as I once did I don't feel any loss. I don't feel any pain that she wants to be with someone else. I have never felt like this after a relationship. Not once... I have never before had this kind of closure or very much closure at all for that matter. Sure I don't get the love that I want so much, but what i have is more than I expected.

I think that there are two ways people can take the end of a relationship. They could chose to focus on the negative hurtful side of it, or they can look at the whole thing and see what they have learned, how they have grown and how both parties faired. I have learned a great deal from this one and I feel that I have grown tremendously. And even though she is off doing her own thing I am happy. I now posses a clarity of thought that I hadn't before imagined. And I have a love greater than any I have before felt.

    </a>
										<div>As a result of my roommate lighting the building on fire, the whole building will be subject to an inspection by the fire chief on Wednesday the 14th at 10am. So I have to relocate all of my fire toys, especially the fuels to an undisclosed location for safe keeping. I don't want a citation or a fine after everything else that has happened this week. This all could have happened at a more convient time. I am supposed to be moving out on the 28th. :P

More later i am sure..

p.s. my room is still covered in saw dust. :( </div>

										<div>Aceribus climbed out of my floor today... yha... It kinda made up for the funeral in the rain. I am so glad she wasn't lost or injured during the fire.

I can only imagine how she feels, she is halfway through a shed and i have no heat in my apartment. </div>

    </a>
										<div>Alright, so I fugured out where my snake is. Shortly the firemen cut the hole in the floor with the chainsaw Aceribus must have crawled into the floor. There is a small hole by the balcony door where I saw her peek out but she went straght back in when I approached. Unfortunately there is no way to reach where she currently is throught the hole the firemen made. Hopefully her entire body will fit though, it's not a very big hole and she is almost 4' long.

I will update more later.. cross your fingers for her. </div>

    </a>
										<div>Today has not been a good day. So I went to work at 7:30 this morning right, I find out my Aunt florence died sunday ( all things considered, condolences not necessary...we weren't close. ) I finish my 10 hour day and get a ride to Mc Arthur and Broadway in Oakland, catch a bus. I was walking home from the bus stop when I approach my block and see three fire trucks and a road block. I look up and see firemen on the fire escape to my room. I was like "shit what's going on?".. I walked up to the fire chief who is standing in the street looking up at my third floor room and I ask him what is going on. He says they came out to investigate biased on the "strong smell of smoke".. so I enter the building and go up three flights of stairs past several fire men into my apartment. Upon entering the room I said "This is my room, what's going on?" they had found the source of the fire (after trashing my room) to be a heat lamp to my snake tank that my roommate had left on the floor before going to San Diego. So I see my room is completely trashed, there are firemen everywhere, and there is a smoking hole in my floor. They cut a 1"x1.5" hole with a chain saw in my floor to make sure that they removed all the burning embers. To top it off... the firemen let one of my snakes out and I can't find her.

So I called my boss and was like "Im going to sound like a total jackass......" I took tomorrow off to deal with my room and thursday and friday to deal with a funeral that is 100 miles away and I don't have a car.

I have a great life.

<div>Alright so here is the deal. The building in which I rent a room's lease is transfering to a new holder on Sept. 1 2007. Which means all of the tenants are likely to be kicked out sometime before or at the end of the term so they can renovate and raise the rent.

I have currently have a month to month lease, so I can bow out at any time. As is I spend 1-2 nights at home.

I have a crash space if needed in Berkeley until August.

I have decent credit and no credit debt, but barely scrape by on the rent every month as is.

Dilema. Should I hold out on the full durration of the current building lease? Or should I bow out and save up for a couple of months to find a new place?

Any thoughts are good thoughts.
Lots of love,
