_____________________

"In the beginning, there was Kraftwerk"
1974's "Autoban" broke the top-10 charts in Germany, England, and the US, and introduced electro to the world. Since then, their minimalist pop has continued to have a profound impact on more artists and genres than we could possibly name.

In 1979, Gary Numan turned away from guitars and embraced the cold new sound of synthesizers (combined with guitar effect pedals). In the span of just 6 months, he released "Replicas" (as Tubeway Army) and "The Pleasure Principle", and created a whole new genre: synth. Since then he has continuously re-invented himself, and in 1994, Gary embraced industrial and darkwave.

Since May 2006, Rock This Town has brought together San Francisco’s Goth and New Wave DJs and given them the chance to play anything and everything that they wouldn’t be allowed to play at their usual gigs. The roster of DJs is staggering. Their song choices – brilliant.

Even the schedule was designed to facilitate creativity and fun. Starting at 9PM, each DJ plays 1 40-minute set. At 11PM, they switch to 20-minute sets. The final hour is a three-way tag-team.

Please join us for 1 final installment of one of San Francisco’s most original and liberating events. Last call!

Love is in the air (and broken hearts, too) as The Pleasure Principle presents the Night of a Thousand Love Songs! On Friday, February 27th, DJ Prince Charming and guest DJ Tomas Diablo (Strangelove, Rock This Town!, Danse Macabre) will be playing all love songs, all night. Be it good love or bad love; puppy love or deep love; broken hearts or mending hearts; you'll hear what all the best New Wave and Synthpop artists have to say about it. You'll see Depeche Mode's world in their eyes, fall head over heels for Tears for Fears', and sink deeply into Soft Cell's tainted love. You're bound to fall in love with some of your forgotten favorite love songs and walk away with some new ones too. Best of all, there's NO cover charge! Why not come on down and treat your feet to a great night of dancing?

Additionally, all proceeds from the night will go to DJ Prince Charming's “Funds for Feathers,” (www.pebby.net) a fundraiser to support Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue (www.mickaboo.org), a Bay Area volunteer-run organization committed to rescuing, fostering, and rehabilitating abused, neglected, injured, and surrendered companion parrots. For every dollar raised, DJ Prince Charming will be matching it.

    </a>
<div>On Friday, November 7th, Strangelove is proud to throw an official release party for REPO! The Genetic Opera - a futuristic tale of horror that fuses Rocky Horror Picture Show with Blade Runner.

Contrary to what was previously announced, members of the cast will not be able to attend. But we're making up for that with some incredible prizes for the winners of our COSTUME CONTEST. Dress in your finest goth/dead girl/medical fetish/futuristic ware, and you could be taking home CDs and poster flats autographed by members of the cast, passes to see Repo! at the Lumiere Theatre (California at Polk), or tickets to see OHGR (of Skinny Puppy and Repo!) at Slim's on November 21st! Photos of the winners will be posted on Repo! website, as well as in the Strangelove photo gallery.

In the back room, DJs Tomas Diablo and Joe Radio (Death Guild) will be spinning the best Dark Electro, Industrial, New Wave and Goth. And in the front room, Strangelove is thrilled to reunite DJs Fact50 (Debauchery) and Lexor (most recently he filled in for Intoner at the last Death Guild at the Glas Kat). The last time they spun together was at a Strangelove back in December of 2006!

Make sure to check out the trailer: www.apple.com/trailers/lions_gate/repo/

Strangelove is every first Friday at the CAT CLUB (Folsom and 8th), with different themes and guests every month. There's lots of room to dance and socialize, and if you keep dancing, we keep the party going until 3AM!

Drink Special: The Zydrate

-
Repo! The Genetic Opera is a Victorian Gothic tale of tragedy, greed, corruption and revenge, given the structure of a classical Italian opera and then set in a grim near-future worthy of Blade Runner. Widespread organ failure plagued human society until GeneCo arrived to provide the salvation of financed organ transplants. However, GeneCo retained the right to repossess organs that were defaulted on, paving the way for legal murder by GeneCo-employed "repo men." And the introduction of an addictive surgical painkiller (Zydrate) and massive advertising propaganda ensured that people would continue to receive surgeries, even those they did not need or could not afford them.

Repo! The Genetic Opera features Ogre (from Skinny Puppy), Anthony Head (Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Sarah Brightman, Paris Hilton, Paul Sorvino, Alexa Vega (the young cutie from the Spy Kids movies is now 20!), Bill Moseley (who's resume includes Army of Darkness and all of Rob Zombie's films) and writer Terrance Zdunich.

<div>TONIGHT (Friday, August 1st) Strangelove pays homage to our patron saints, DEPECHE MODE. Tomas Diablo and very special guest MELTING GIRL (Death Guild, 1984) spin the best of Depeche Mode and like-minded Dark Electro, Industrial, New Wave, and Goth.

Expect to hear artists like Depeche Mode, Depeche Mode, and yet more Depeche Mode, as well as solo work from Dave Gahan and Martin L. Gore, music from former bandmates Vince Clarke and Alan Wilder, and DM-inspired artists like De/Vision, Covenant, Camouflage, Mesh, and Seabound.

Strangelove is every first Friday at the CAT CLUB (Folsom and 8th), with different themes and guests every month. There's plenty of room to dance around and if you keep dancing, we keep the party going until 3AM! The DJs play music in the back room, and it's piped through to the front room at a lower volume, giving you the chance to chat at the bar without losing your voice.

    </a>
<div>My head is still reeling from Friday's Strangelove. We had our biggest turnout yet - just under 200 people - for the Skinny Puppy tribute. 200 people is not enough for the Cat Club to feel crowded, so it was pretty comfortable everywhere. People seem to appreciate that I don't have DJs blaring in the front room, and they can escape the sound level and crowd of the dance room and enjoy talking to each other by the front bar. And since we pipe the music through at a lower level, they can still listen and run back if they need to dance to a certain track.

I spent much of my time between sets making popcorn and getting it out to both bars. People were devouring it pretty quickly!

My guest - DJ Joe Radio from Death Guild - was such a pleasure to work with. He played some amazing mixes, and also stayed until the end of the evening (I give my guests the option to leave at 2 or stick around to play some more music). I also recorded the entire night on an MP3 recorder, and I'll have to see if I can upload that file to strangelovesf.com so people can download it and listen to the last event.

Some statistics from the evening -

Requests played: 22
Skinny Puppy tracks played: 15
Skinny Puppy side-project tracks played: 5
Bags of popcorn consumed: 8
Goodbye song as the house lights went up: Wayne Newton - Danke Shoen

<div>On Friday, April 4th, Strangelove pays tribute to industrial pioneers SKINNY PUPPY. Tomas Diablo and special guest Joe Radio (Death Guild) play the best of Skinny Puppy and their side-projects, as well as like-minded Dark Electro, Industrial, New Wave, and Goth. All the best music to feed your Addiction - we know you'll Dig It.

Strangelove is every first Friday at the CAT CLUB (Folsom and 8th). There's plenty of room to dance around and we keep the party going until 3AM! The DJs play music in the back room, and it's piped through to the front room at a lower volume, giving you the chance to chat at the bar without losing your voice.

    </a>
<div>(from Skip) You must answer one question by using song lyrics.

FORTY FOR YA.

1. When did you join Tribe and how many "profile views" do you have?
03/16/04 and 4870

2. What's the last movie you saw at a theatre?
Beowolf. I’ve been spoiled by Netflix, and now only go to movies that will be a real experience on the big screen.

3. Who have you talked to most today?
My beautiful bride.

4. If you MUST be an animal for ONE day- what animal would you be?
I want to fly like an eagle, to the sea. Fly like an eagle, let my spirit carry me.

5. What's the last thing you bought that was more than $100?
Leyla’s bail. And tickets to Maui (we leave 8 hours after Strangelove).

6. What's the last thing someone bought you?
A sundae from McDonalds… which I had to refuse because I can’t eat dairy. Oh well.

7. Are you a bad influence?
They don’t call me ‘Diablo’ for nothing.

8. Do you ever sing in the shower?
The acoustics are great in there.

9. Something quirky that you do an a regular basis?
I’ll clean out expired flyers from bins before putting my flyers in. I’m sure that certain store employees known me as the anal guy who cleans their bins, but I know that no one will notice my flyers if surrounded by expired ones.
I also dig out friends’ flyers (NWC, Lucky Pierre, etc) if buried and put them back on top.

10. Something seriously weird that you do an a regular basis?
Rock This Town

11. Honestly, how many boys/girls have u been in love with?
Two girls and one woman.

12. Do you judge people by their musical preferences?
I try not to be judgmental, but music is the spice of life.

13. Would you move to another state or country to be with the one you love?
Yes.

14. Are you afraid of falling in love?
with someone other than my wife? Yeah, that would be scary.

15. What features do you find most attractive in the opposite sex?
Sense of humor. Musical taste. Breast-waist-ass ratio. Sanity.

16. When was your last make-out session?
Saturday. Although there was a pretty heavy petting orgy with Sandra and Pyewacket this morning.

17. Is there something that you don't want to do?
I don't want to work today, which is why I'm answering this questionnaire.

18. If you were to wake up from being in a coma for an extended time, who would you call?
Sandra. The folks. My stock broker.

19. Shoe size?
Either 10.5 or 11, depending on how particular shoes fit.

20. What color are your eyes?
Blue.

21. What are you listening to?
Right now: Skinny Puppy.
Earlier today: the Cocteau Twins and Love and Rockets.
Later today: the Cure and Kate Bush.

22. What’s something you wish you could understand better?
Myself.

23. What is/was your favorite subject in school?
English and Art.

24. Who was your first Prom date?
Juliet. http://newwavecity.tribe.net/photos/c7e76282-b6f8-4c29-bae1-933f3506cee4

25. Who was the first person to break your heart?
Jennifer. Before her it was only bruised.

26. Ever been to Las Vegas?
Once for business, once for pleasure.

27. Where are you most ticklish?
I’m not ticklish.

28. How many siblings do you have?
One brother. That's enough.

29. First thing you wash in the shower?
Hair.

30. How many countries have you visited?
Six.

31. What is the color of your bedsheets?
Blue.

32. Is there anything pink within 10 feet of you?
A strawberry Starburst candy.

33. Baskin Robbins or Coldstone?
I’m highly lactose intolerant. Maggie Mudd!

34. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or Star Wars?
The original Star Wars trilogy was one of the most important things in my young life, but the recent trilogy pretty much destroyed my opinion of Lucas and his films. Lord of the Rings was brilliant, and for 3 years was part of my Christmas tradition.

35. Batman, Spiderman, or Superman?
The Dark Knight, of course.

36. What's your favorite Disney movie?
The Incredibles. 2ns place – Tron.

37. What is your favorite breakfast food?
Cereal with fruit.

38. Something you eat but know you shouldn't?
Chocolate.

39. If you could 'take back' your virginity from your first partner, would you?
Probably. But I would have liked to have lost it sooner, anyway.

40. Do you like your life right now?
Right now it’s the calm before the storm. There’s a lot of exciting changes waiting to happen.
