My Novel
I'm just thinking publicly, please don't take me too seriously
Sat, January 20, 2007 - 6:02 PMSo my unfounded worries about the Dada Motel show. I worry about the artists being too spread out. I imagine a really talented artist who I coerced into coughing up $150 he doesn't have, sitting in a motel room, alone with his art, while the viewing public parties on the East end of 4th street because that's where the bars are. On that note, I encourage visual artists to exhibit in more than one motel (share rooms with others - $25 here, $25 there) so that their work will be seen by more than one group of people. I also worry that motels will not cooperate, but I know of at least one motel that is about it, so others must be willing too. The question comes up, "what incentive do the motels have to rent to us?" Money. Cooperating motels stand to make a good deal of money. I walked west 4th St. yesterday, and every motel I saw had a vacancy sign. I mean, if this thing gets big enough, we could fill up almost every available motel room in Reno. And I do think that having the festivities spread out will make it more palatable, no one motel will have to endure all of Reno's flavor in one sitting. Sometimes I worry that nobody will want to participate. Everyone will assume that someone else will do it, and in the end there won't really be a show. But that's not fair to the work ethic of the artists I've spoken with. Maybe I'm just afraid that I won't do anything, that nobody will visit my room, and that if they do they'll be underwhelmed. Yeah, that seems more like my ride.

yeah, I hear that...
there are lots of things to worry about, but aren't there always lots of things to worry about? Like school, geeze girl! but... there are SOOOOOOOoooooo many motels down there, and besides, if things get too tough out there on the street, we can alway have people heading up into the casino rooms. I have a feeling the Sands would be waaay into it. Just a feeling. Wasn't the owner of that joint spotted at Bleulion? The bars are to the east, that's a good point, but I know there are artists around that actually are not interested in the bars, believe it or not. *hee hee ha ha (I'm not one of them though) It's interesting down 4th; the East end has the bars and motels are a lil' less clean than on the West, but over there, there's a nice wedding chapel-with attached motel, Donner Inn, by the way-Who's first for a lovely Fri./Sat. night Dada wedding? The other day I walked down 4th.. From the Sands, I didn't even get as far East as Sutro, and I saw probably 25 motels, on-or within one block of 4th. And speaking of Sutro, the motel there has a perfect mural (2 of 'em) painted by one of our estemed collegues in the Krylon arts. I'm going to buy my room as soon as possible, while the gettin's good. -chad |

Yes, I's sposen there's ahways tings dah worriees 'bout. One positive thought, I was imagining being an artist seeking sponsorship; that seemed fairly doable. I mean, getting a sympathetic business owner to donate $150 dollars is not so ballsy as some other fund raising attempts I've made.

Don't you worry your pretty little head about a thing. I was always told to be concerned not worried. The one takes action, while the other should have a rental fee for taking up valuable space and time that could be used for other more deliteful activities of the mind. You have validate concerns (except for the no one will come to my room part, Ha,duh). What's right in front of you is the most important, especially if it's me.
