There are approximately 1 billion Internet users in the world B and any one of these users can theoretically communicate in real time with any other on the planet. The Internet has been the greatest technological achievement of the 20th century by far, and has been recognized as such by the global community. The free transfer of information, uncensored, unlimited and untainted, still seems to be a dream when you think about it. Whatever field that is mentioned -- education, commerce, government, news, entertainment, politics, and countless other areas -- have been radically affected by the introduction of the Internet. And mostly, it's good news, except when poor judgements are made and people are taken advantage of. Scrutiny and oversight are needed, especially where children are involved. However, when there are potential profits open to a corporation, the needs of society don't count. Take the recent case in Canada with the behemoths, Telus and Rogers, rolling out a charge for text messaging without any warning to the public. It was an arrogant and risky move for the telecommunications giants because it backfired. People actually used Internet technology to deliver a loud and clear message to these companies and that was to scrap the extra charge. The people used the power of the Internet against the big boys and the little guys won. However, the issue of text messaging is just a tiny blip on the radar screens of Telus and another company, Bell Canada, the two largest Internet Service Providers (I.S.P.'s) in Canada. Our country is being used as a test case to drastically change the delivery of Internet service forever. The change will be so radical that it has the potential to send us back to the horse and buggy days of information sharing and access. In the upcoming weeks watch for a report in Time Magazine that will attempt to smooth over the rough edges of a diabolical plot by Bell Canada and Telus, to begin charging per site fees on most Internet sites. The plan is to convert the Internet into a cable-like system, where customers sign up for specific web sites, and then pay to visit sites beyond a cutoff point. From my browsing (on the currently free Internet), I have discovered that the "demise" of the free Internet is slated for 2010 in Canada and, two years later, around the world. Canada is seen a good choice to implement such shameful and sinister changes, since Canadians are viewed as being laissez fair, politically uninformed and an easy target. The corporate marauders will iron out the wrinkles in Canada and then spring the new, castrated version of the Internet on the rest of the world, probably with little fanfare, except for some dire warnings about the "evil" of the Internet (free) and the C.E.O.'s spouting about "safety and security." These buzzwords usually work pretty well. What will the Internet look like in Canada in 2010? I suspect that the I.S.P.'s will provide a "package" program as companies like Cogeco currently do. Customers will pay for a series of websites as they do now for their television stations. Television stations will be available on-line as part of these packages, which will make the networks happy since they have lost much of the younger market which are surfing and chatting on their computers in the evening. However, as is the case with cable television now, if you choose something that is not part of the package, you know what happens. You pay extra. And this is where the Internet (free) as we know it will suffer almost immediate, economic strangulation. Thousands and thousands of Internet sites will not be part of the package, so users will have to pay extra to visit those sites! In just an hour or two, it is possible to easily visit 20~30 sites or more while looking for information. Just imagine how high these costs will be. At present, the world condemns China because that country restricts certain websites. "They are undemocratic; they are removing people's freedom; they don't respect individual rights; they are censoring information," are some of the comments we hear. But, what Bell Canada and Telus have planned for Canadians is much worse than that. They are planning the death of the Internet (free) as we know it, and I expect they'll be hardly a whimper from Canadians. It's all part of the corporate plan for a New World Order and virtually a masterstroke that will lead to the creation of billions and billions of dollars of corporate profit at the expense of the working and middle classes. There are so many other implications as a result of these changes, far too many to elaborate on here. Be aware that we will all lose our privacy because all websites will be tracked as part of the billing procedure, and we will be literally cut off from 90% of the information that we can access today. The little guys on the Net will fall likes flies; Bloggers and small website operators will die a quick death because people will not pay to go to their sites and read their pages. Ironically, the only medium that can save us is the one we are trying to save -- the Internet (free). Canadians can keep the Internet free just as they kept text messaging free. Don't wait for the federal politicians. They will do nothing to help us. I would welcome a letter to the editor of the Standard Freeholder from a spokesperson from Bell Canada or Telus telling me that I am absolutely wrong in what I have written, and that no such changes to the Internet are being planned, and that access to Internet sites will remain FREE in the years to come. In the meantime, I encourage all of you to write to the media, ask questions, phone the radio station, phone a friend, or think of something else to prevent what appears to me to be inevitable. Maintaining Internet (free) access is the only way we have a chance at combating the global corporate takeover, the North American Union, and a long list of other deadly deeds that the elite in society have planned for us. Yesterday was too late in trying to protect our rights and freedoms. REPRINTED FROM BEYOND HEALTH® News Sunlight and Health by Raymond Francis In a number of BHN issues beginning in July/August of '96, we have told our readers that, contrary to popular belief, sunlight does not cause cancer. In fact cancer rates are much lower where there is more sunlight. I have recently come across an excellent book by Zane Kime, MD titled Sunlight. Dr. Kime looks at the relationship of sunlight and human health. He takes studies from the scientific literature and demonstrates sunlight's beneficial effects in lowering cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar. He cites how sunlight increases endurance, sex hormone levels, and immunity. The book also contains dietary suggestions on how to protect your skin from sun damage the way nature intended. It's easy to forget, in the midst of our cancer epidemic, that cancer was traditionally a rare disease affecting less than 1% of the population. The healthy, long-lived populations like the Hunzas and the Vilcabambas lived at high elevations where the sun was more intense. They were out farming every day. Yet they lived to very old ages without getting cancer. If the sun causes cancer, how did these people and others like the Polynesians ever survive? Skin cancer is the end-result of many factors of which inappropriate sun exposure is only one. Like a lot of things, too much of a good thing can be bad for you. The sun is essential to health, but too little or too much sun will damage health. The sun can do damage if we use it improperly. And use it improperly is what most of us do. Studies show that the incidence of all malignancy is 6 to 10 times lower closer to the equator where there is more sunlight, and people who have chronic exposure to the sun are less likely to develop melanoma than urbanized people who have intermittent exposure. One of the reasons for lower cancer rates may be that people who are out in the sun all the time form pigments that protect them from the sun, and their sun exposure makes them healthier in the first place. Urban dwellers don't get enough healthy sun exposure. They often get intermittent tans that fade. Repeating this cycle may result in damage because the skin is not protected during the tanning process. Also the urban dweller is much more likely to burn during the tanning process. Some researchers believe that burns are a key to skin cancer. Turning into a red lobster is definitely not conducive to good health, as any lobster can attest. No one is arguing that sunlight doesn't trigger free radical activity and that the amount of free radicals doesn't increase with the intensity of the sunshine. These free radicals can cause skin to age prematurely, wrinkle, and sunburn, and can damage DNA and cause skin lesions. However, research shows that diets rich in carotenes and other antioxidants protect the skin against the hazards of ultraviolet sunlight. Carotenes are a class of compounds found in plants, fruits, and vegetables that reduce the free radical activity that causes damage and premature aging of cells. Research has shown that diets rich in carotenes reduce the risk of cancer and prevent the damage to DNA that results in a number of degenerative diseases. In fact carotenes are being called nature's "sun umbrella." Carotenes are used up during exposure to sunlight, so one's dietary supply must be adequate to provide continuous protection. Here's the problem. Very few Americans are getting adequate amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables in their diet. We are blaming the sun for problems caused by poor diets and excessive inappropriate exposures. What about sunscreens? A few decades of increasing sunscreen use has done nothing to stop the increasing rate of skin cancer. In fact, the chemicals in sunscreens may even become carcinogenic when exposed to sunlight. Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania say that broad-spectrum sunscreens still aren't broad enough to cover the full spectrum of potentially harmful light. Ultraviolet radiation consists of over 100 separate frequencies. Sunscreens don't protect against all, and we don't know which are harmful and which beneficial. We may even be blocking the wrong ones. In addition, using a sunscreen can create a false sense of security and cause people to spend excessive amounts of time in the sun. Researchers at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston say, "There is no substantial evidence that sunscreen protects against any of the three forms of skin cancer. Dr. Robin Marks, a dermatologist and a professor at the University of Melbourne says, "Relying on synthetic chemicals to prevent cancer is laughable." Arthur Rhodes, a University of Pittsburgh dermatologist, told a 1994 meeting of the American Cancer Society that sunscreens "appear weakly effective or ineffective" at preventing cancer. The fact is we were designed to be out in the sun. Sunlight is absolutely essential for good health in so many ways that we don't even begin to understand them. Unless you do something foolish, the sun won't damage healthy people who have adequate amounts of nutrients like carotenes, lycopene, essential fatty acids, and vitamins A, C, E, and zinc and selenium. Our need for the sun is exemplified by the fact that nature intended we get most of our vitamin D from the sun. Vitamin D is almost totally absent in vegetable foods. When sunlight strikes the skin it sets off a multi-staged process whereby cholesterol is ultimately changed into vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential to the absorption of calcium from the intestines and for the production of enzymes involved in collagen formation in the bones. Staying out of the sun is partially responsible for our epidemic of osteoporosis, especially in our elderly. One study found that 36% of elderly men and 47% of elderly women were vitamin D deficient. Even moderate sun exposure would help to alleviate this problem. However, sunlight through window glass will not activate vitamin D synthesis. Sunlight is absolutely essential to good health. Its only been in recent times that the sun has been cast as our enemy. If getting too little or too much sun is bad for us, how can the average person get what they need without harming themselves? First of all get the sun slowly. Secondly, stay out of the midday sun. Timing sun exposures to avoid the hours of 10 to 2 PM will cut ultraviolet exposure by 60% because the sun is less intense. Most everyone should try to get at least ten minutes in the sun on a daily basis and longer on weekends. If you do it this way, your skin will adapt through skin pigmentation and you won't get sunburned. Some experts claim at least one hour of unfiltered sunlight per day is essential to health. This doesn't have to be in direct sun, indirect sunlight is acceptable but it should not be filtered through glass. Sunlight into the retina is a very important nutrient. Retinas need the whole spectrum of solar radiation, and wearing glasses or contacts could screen out important frequencies that are critical to long-term health. When you are in direct sun for long periods, cover up. Wear a broad brimmed hat and suitable clothing. We need to protect against skin cancer both from the outside and the inside. Getting an optimal amount of nutrients is essential. Eat a diet that is rich in fresh, unrefined, essential fatty acids such as those contained in Udo's Choice. A diet rich in carotenes is essential. Supplementation with products like Caroplete should be considered. Caroplete contains a natural mixture of carotenes including lycopene. In addition, vitamins A, C, and E along with minerals like zinc and selenium will help to both protect and repair skin. How much sun is right for you depends on your biochemical individuality. With a bit of awareness and following the above suggestions, you should be able to develop a healthy golden tan and reap the benefits of the sun without doing harm. Health is a choice, and by developing good habits and making sensible choices, the sun will be your friend and not your enemy. The sun is essential to health, but too little or too much sun will damage health. The sun can do damage if we use it improperly. And use it improperly is what most of us do. Studies show that the incidence of all malignancy is 6 to 10 times lower closer to the equator where there is more sunlight, and people who have chronic exposure to the sun are less likely to develop melanoma than urbanized people who have intermittent exposure. One of the reasons for lower cancer rates may be that people who are out in the sun all the time form pigments that protect them from the sun, and their sun exposure makes them healthier in the first place. Urban dwellers don't get enough healthy sun exposure. They often get intermittent tans that fade. Repeating this cycle may result in damage because the skin is not protected during the tanning process. Also the urban dweller is much more likely to burn during the tanning process. Some researchers believe that burns are a key to skin cancer. Turning into a red lobster is definitely not conducive to good health, as any lobster can attest. No one is arguing that sunlight doesn't trigger free radical activity and that the amount of free radicals doesn't increase with the intensity of the sunshine. These free radicals can cause skin to age prematurely, wrinkle, and sunburn, and can damage DNA and cause skin lesions. However, research shows that diets rich in carotenes and other antioxidants protect the skin against the hazards of ultraviolet sunlight. Carotenes are a class of compounds found in plants, fruits, and vegetables that reduce the free radical activity that causes damage and premature aging of cells. Research has shown that diets rich in carotenes reduce the risk of cancer and prevent the damage to DNA that results in a number of degenerative diseases. In fact carotenes are being called nature's "sun umbrella." Carotenes are used up during exposure to sunlight, so one's dietary supply must be adequate to provide continuous protection. Here's the problem. Very few Americans are getting adequate amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables in their diet. We are blaming the sun for problems caused by poor diets and excessive inappropriate exposures. What about sunscreens? A few decades of increasing sunscreen use has done nothing to stop the increasing rate of skin cancer. In fact, the chemicals in sunscreens may even become carcinogenic when exposed to sunlight. Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania say that broad-spectrum sunscreens still aren't broad enough to cover the full spectrum of potentially harmful light. Ultraviolet radiation consists of over 100 separate frequencies. Sunscreens don't protect against all, and we don't know which are harmful and which beneficial. We may even be blocking the wrong ones. In addition, using a sunscreen can create a false sense of security and cause people to spend excessive amounts of time in the sun. Researchers at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston say, "There is no substantial evidence that sunscreen protects against any of the three forms of skin cancer. Dr. Robin Marks, a dermatologist and a professor at the University of Melbourne says, "Relying on synthetic chemicals to prevent cancer is laughable." Arthur Rhodes, a University of Pittsburgh dermatologist, told a 1994 meeting of the American Cancer Society that sunscreens "appear weakly effective or ineffective" at preventing cancer. The fact is we were designed to be out in the sun. Sunlight is absolutely essential for good health in so many ways that we don't even begin to understand them. Unless you do something foolish, the sun won't damage healthy people who have adequate amounts of nutrients like carotenes, lycopene, essential fatty acids, and vitamins A, C, E, and zinc and selenium. Our need for the sun is exemplified by the fact that nature intended we get most of our vitamin D from the sun. Vitamin D is almost totally absent in vegetable foods. When sunlight strikes the skin it sets off a multi-staged process whereby cholesterol is ultimately changed into vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential to the absorption of calcium from the intestines and for the production of enzymes involved in collagen formation in the bones. Staying out of the sun is partially responsible for our epidemic of osteoporosis, especially in our elderly. One study found that 36% of elderly men and 47% of elderly women were vitamin D deficient. Even moderate sun exposure would help to alleviate this problem. However, sunlight through window glass will not activate vitamin D synthesis. Sunlight is absolutely essential to good health. Its only been in recent times that the sun has been cast as our enemy. If getting too little or too much sun is bad for us, how can the average person get what they need without harming themselves? First of all get the sun slowly. Secondly, stay out of the midday sun. Timing sun exposures to avoid the hours of 10 to 2 PM will cut ultraviolet exposure by 60% because the sun is less intense. Most everyone should try to get at least ten minutes in the sun on a daily basis and longer on weekends. If you do it this way, your skin will adapt through skin pigmentation and you won't get sunburned. Some experts claim at least one hour of unfiltered sunlight per day is essential to health. This doesn't have to be in direct sun, indirect sunlight is acceptable but it should not be filtered through glass. Sunlight into the retina is a very important nutrient. Retinas need the whole spectrum of solar radiation, and wearing glasses or contacts could screen out important frequencies that are critical to long-term health. When you are in direct sun for long periods, cover up. Wear a broad brimmed hat and suitable clothing. We need to protect against skin cancer both from the outside and the inside. Getting an optimal amount of nutrients is essential. Eat a diet that is rich in fresh, unrefined, essential fatty acids such as those contained in Udo's Choice. A diet rich in carotenes is essential. Supplementation with products like Caroplete should be considered. Caroplete contains a natural mixture of carotenes including lycopene. In addition, vitamins A, C, and E along with minerals like zinc and selenium will help to both protect and repair skin. How much sun is right for you depends on your biochemical individuality. With a bit of awareness and following the above suggestions, you should be able to develop a healthy golden tan and reap the benefits of the sun without doing harm. Health is a choice, and by developing good habits and making sensible choices, the sun will be your friend and not your enemy. Lead exposure in children linked to violent crime A study finds that even low levels can permanently damage the brain. The research also shows that exposure is a continuing problem despite efforts to minimize it. By Thomas H. Maugh II and Marla Cone, Los Angeles Times Staff Writers May 28, 2008 http://www.latimes.com/news/science/la-sci-lead28-2008may28,0,6207472.story The first study to follow lead-exposed children from before birth into adulthood has shown that even relatively low levels of lead permanently damage the brain and are linked to higher numbers of arrests, particularly for violent crime. Earlier studies linking lead to such problems used indirect measures of both lead and criminality, and critics have argued that socioeconomic and other factors may be responsible for the observed effects. But by measuring blood levels of lead before birth and during the first seven years of life, then correlating the levels with arrest records and brain size, Cincinnati researchers have produced the strongest evidence yet that lead plays a major role in crime. The researchers also found that lead exposure is a continuing problem despite the efforts of the federal government and cities to minimize exposure. The average lead levels in the study "unfortunately are still seen in many thousands of children throughout the United States," said Philip J. Landrigan, director of the Center for Children's Health and the Environment at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. The link between criminal behavior and lead exposure was found among even the least-contaminated children in the study, who were exposed to amounts of lead similar to what the average U.S. child is exposed to today, said Landrigan, who was not involved in the study. "People will sometimes say, 'This is in the past. We are cleaning up lead. We don't have lead problems anymore,' " said criminologist Deborah W. Denno of Fordham University in New York, who also was not involved in the study. "The Ohio study says this is still a big problem." Nationwide, about 310,000 children between the ages of 1 and 5 have blood lead levels above the federal guideline of 10 micrograms per deciliter, and experts suspect that many times that number have lower levels that are still dangerous. "It is a national disgrace that so many children continue to be exposed at levels known to be neurotoxic," said neurologist David C. Bellinger of Harvard Medical School, who wrote an editorial accompanying the study published in the online journal PLoS Medicine. Although some urban soil is still contaminated with lead from gasoline, 80% of lead exposure now comes from houses built before 1978. Paint in such houses can contain as much as 50% lead, and even if it has been covered by newer, lead-free paint, it still flakes or rubs off. About 38 million U.S. homes, 40% of the nation's housing, still contain lead-based paint, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The problem is particularly acute in urban areas, which typically have older housing that has not been renovated. More recently, parents and authorities have become concerned about increasing levels of lead-based paint in toys imported from China. Researchers have long known that lead exposure reduces IQ by damaging brain cells in children during their early years. It is also known that lead increases children's distractibility, impulsiveness and restlessness and shortens their attention span, all factors considered precursors of aggressive or violent behavior. A landmark 1990 paper by Denno linked lead to increases in criminal behavior, but the children in the study were not tested for lead levels. The diagnoses were based on their physicians' evaluation, Denno said. The Cincinnati lead study enrolled 376 pregnant women in Cincinnati's inner city between 1979 and 1984, measuring their blood lead levels during pregnancy and the children's levels during their first seven years of life. In the new study, environmental health researcher Kim N. Dietrich of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine studied 250 of the original group, correlating their lead levels with adult criminal arrest records from Hamilton County, Ohio. He and his colleagues found that 55% of the subjects (63% of males) had been arrested and that the average was five arrests between the ages of 18 and 24. The higher the blood lead level at any time in childhood, the greater the likelihood of arrests. "The strongest association was with violent criminal activity -- murder, rape, domestic violence, assault, robbery and possession of weapons," Dietrich said. Blood lead levels in the children ranged from 4 to 37 micrograms per deciliter. The researchers found, for example, that every 5-microgram-per-deciliter increase in blood lead levels at age 6 was accompanied by a 50% increase in the incidence of violent crime later in life. Confirming previous findings, the effect of lead was strongest in males, who had an arrest rate 4 1/2 times that of females. In a related study, spectroscopist Kim M. Cecil of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and her colleagues examined a "representative sample" of 157 members of the same group using whole-brain MRI scans. They found that those with the highest blood levels of lead during childhood had the smallest brain volume. On average, the brains of those in the study were about 1.2% smaller than normal. The most affected regions of the brain were those regulating decision making, impulse control, attention, error detection, task completion and reward-based decision making. "The most important message is that lead affects brain volume, independent of demographic and social factors that are often used to explain away poor outcomes" in life, Cecil said. He admits that mobiles can save lives in emergencies, but concludes that "there is a significant and increasing body of evidence for a link between mobile phone usage and certain brain tumours." Noting that malignant brain tumours represent "a life-ending diagnosis," he adds: "We are currently experiencing a reactively unchecked and dangerous situation." He fears that "unless the industry and governments take immediate and decisive steps," the incidence of malignant brain tumours and associated death rate will be observed to rise globally within a decade from now, by which time it may be far too late to intervene medically. Better known examples are Firestine tires, the movies "Class Action" that starred Gene Hackman, as well as Erin Brockovich, starring Julia Roberts. The third cited example in this sermon is ongoing with a prosecuting attorney that has been fighting to get criminal charges brought against the corporate officials that were responsible for an unknown number of American deaths. Homicide was not listed among the criminal indiments listed in the news release that is linked in. I am citing these other reports to demonstrate that this is not just "an elephant in the living-room" . It is a virtual and rampant herd. And nobody wants to talk about it. In fact, I had to name it, just so I could. The "commonly known" examples that I had cited did not have any criminal cases brought against the corporations of the individual corporate officials that were responsible. Excerpts from my posted rough draft of PTSD Recovery information at http://www.angelfire.com/nm/redcollarcrime/survivor.html Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is one of the most often misdiagnosed, understood and treated disorders in "Mental Health". Often, it is treated with SSRI's. One of the better books on this subject of PTSD is titled, "Trauma and Recovery". It is a good starting point to help anyone suffering from this. But there are many aspects that even that book missed. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I am writing this as a kind of supplement to it. But then the various aspects that I touch upon here could easily evolve into a book in it's own right. In fact several other books are cited. While methods such as EMDR are mentioned, a Buddhist meditation called Vipassana is the best that I have found. Please note that a foundation for this meditation must be laid first. A link to Vipassana and their free seminars taught at their retreats is given later on this page. They do accept donations but do not charge a fee. They are not about the money. A book titled "Seven Weeks To Emotional Healing" cites a medical study that found only 20% of World War 2 prisoner of war survivors recovered from their PTSD symptoms, with out nutritional support. The recovery rate "with" is higher. But there are other aspects to be considered, as well. The main sources of the toxic chemicals that the Center For Disease Control found in many Americans are"food" (144). After you have established a firm foothold with diet, toxic chemical avoidance and detoxification, I recommend the Eye Movement Desensitizing Reprocessing technique. Or E.M.D.R. for short. Most psychologist know it by it acronym. But their experience level does vary, dramatically. After detoxification, I completed a course that helped me tremendously. It is free and they have various centers around the world. These Buddhist only accept donations. There is no charge or fee. Being homeless, I could hardly afford the ticket to get there. They also have "ride shares", if you do not have the money to get there. I intend and do hope to some day make a donation to them, myself. One thing is for sure. This "Vipassana is not about the money". It is about humanity and recovery. Vipassana http://www.dhamma.org/ Please note that I am not a Buddhist. Being or becoming one has no bearing on their helping. But their rules include "Noble Silence". (No talking for the ten days that you meditate, about ten hours a day). No smoking, drug use, sex and you eat their food while suspending other religious practices. It is the best way to learn the technique. It takes ten days to learn the basics. But you must have a "strong foothold" with the before mentioned "stability, before attempting Vipassana. Their course is free. Though they do take donations. You only have to apply, make an appointment and get there. One of the problems that you might encounter is from withdrawal of SSRI's, if your doctor has or had "medicated you. (I had been on prozac in 1995). DO NOT STOP TAKING ANY SSRI, ABRUPTLY. YOU MUST "WEAN" YOURSELF OFF OF THEM. Most doctors are ill informed about the medications that they prescribe. Thankfully, Ann Blake Tracy is in there fighting this. And I highly recommend her work. Mesha agreed that everything that I was on about can apply to such a situation as an unjustified police shooting. But she also thought that steroid abuse by law enforcement is inducing some "bad judgment calls", more than anything else. And that these factors are being protected by the " Blue Wall of Silence". So being an open minded hippy, after talking to Mesha, I did a couple of Google searches on the subject. The results astounded me. The Google search terms were "police steroid abuse" and "police steroid abuse testing". I thought I would find masses of articles about the police busting people for it. But nooooo, I find massive articles about police forces around the country being busted. Si I tried posting "Roid-a-cops and police brutality" at myspace. It would not post. So I sent it to a number of friends at myspace. They could not get it to post. Though Ken said a couple of days later that he was able to post it. Seems there is a tracking program at myspace for censorship. This report has finally posted at Myspace bulletin's and my blog. After some serious complaining is rather public ways, across the Internet. Anyway, I became rather frustrated and called Mesha. What I had decided to do was spread a "true rumor" that did seem to get "their attention". And not just Mysapce's. I called the Sonoma County sheriff and a captain answered the phone. He said that the sheriff was unavailable. So I told the captain that I had done a Google search that shows police departments around the country were being busted by the feds for steroid abuse. I told him the search terms and I could sense the panic in his voice. I told him that the searches reveal Boston police being busted by a federal grand jury investigation. Dallas also came up with the search and too many others to list. Now I only went over the first ten results of the first search term and twenty of the second. When I got to the one about president Bush talking about steroid abuse in a State of the Union address, I stopped. After all, Bush was talking about steroid abuse in sports. Maybe he should have been a bit more specific and included law enforcement. You know .... the people that enforce the laws against such things as drug abuse. Not that I want to snitch out the feds and risk screwing up any investigation that they might have. I am not aware of Sonoma County being investigated for steroid abuse. Maybe it isn't. Maybe it is ? All I know is that I do not want to be charged with "obstruction of justice", for bringing this to their attention. After all, more often than not, "no good deed goes unpunished". What I can point out is what other police departments that have ignored the abuse of steroids like an ostrich, have found. While they are so bent over with their heads in the sand, the feds sneak up and give them an exam that nobody likes. Regardless of sexual orientation. As the prior mentioned search reveals, it was a Federal Grand Jury investigation that busted the Boston police department for steroid abuse. Maybe if all of the San Francisco MUNI bus drivers that have to pee in a bottle for random drug screening became aware of this. They might be able to break the censorship and warn others of the impeding steroid exams .... or a, the investigations that have busted so many police departments around the country ? One of my psychologists had told me that "the good and the bad news it that I am not paranoid or delusional". Now please excuse me .... Carmona, who commissioned the "Call to Action on Global Health" while serving as surgeon general from 2002 to 2006, recently cited its suppression as an example of the Bush administration's frequent efforts during his tenure to give scientific documents a political twist. At a July 10 House committee hearing, Carmona did not cite Steiger by name or detail the report's contents and its implications for American public health. After a long struggle that pitted top scientific and medical experts inside and outside the government against Steiger and his political bosses, Carmona refused to make the requested changes, according to the officials. Carmona engaged in similar fights over other public health reports, including an unpublished report on prison health. A few days before the end of his term as the nation's senior medical officer, he was abruptly told he would not be reappointed. The sweeping accusations on Wednesday were discussed later in a conference call organized by the Union of Concerned Scientists, an independent organization that focuses on technical issues and has often taken stands at odds with administration policy. The organization also issued a 38-page report Wednesday. The statement and report accuse the administration of repeatedly censoring and suppressing reports by its own scientists, stacking advisory committees with unqualified political appointees, disbanding government panels that provide unwanted advice, and refusing to seek independent scientific expertise in some cases. According to the report, the Bush administration has misrepresented scientific consensus on global warming, censored at least one report on climate change, manipulated scientific findings on the emissions of mercury from power plants and suppressed information on condom use. The report asserts that the administration allowed industries with conflicts of interest to influence technical advisory committees and subjected prospective members of scientific panels to political litmus tests. "Other administrations have, on occasion, engaged in such practices, but not so systematically nor on so wide a front," the statement from the scientists said, adding that they believed the administration had "misrepresented scientific knowledge and misled the public about the implications of its policies." Kurt Gottfried, an emeritus professor of physics at Cornell University who is chairman of the board of directors of the Union of Concerned Scientists, said the administration had "engaged in practices that are in conflict with spirit of science and the scientific method." John Marburger 3rd, science adviser to President George W. Bush and director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy at the White House, said it was important to listen to "the distinguished scientific leadership in this country." But he said the report by the Union of Concerned Scientists consisted of a largely disconnected list of events that did not make the case for a suppression of good scientific advice by the administration. "I think there are incidents where people have got their feathers ruffled," Marburger said. "In most cases, these are not profound actions that were taken as the result of a policy. They are individual actions that are part of the normal processes within the agencies." D. Allan Bromley, the science adviser to President George H.W. Bush, the current president's father, went further. Bromley, a physicist at Yale, called the statement "clearly" politically motivated and said it was made up of "sweeping generalizations." The Union of Concerned Scientists denied that it had political motives in releasing the documents as the 2004 presidential race began to take clear shape. The organization's report, Gottfried said, had taken a year to prepare, much longer than planned, and was released as soon as it was ready. "I don't see it as a partisan issue at all," said Russell Train, an administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. "If it becomes that way, I think it's because the White House chooses to make it a partisan issue." The letter was signed by luminaries from a broad array of disciplines.
