I think it's time for a hiatus...
A while back one of my friends posted this in her blog and I've been pondering it ever since..."Finding out what you're good at & then working to get better at it is a much more efficient use of your time & energy than trying to become a star in an area where you may not have much talent to begin with"
... and I think I totally agree. With every brand new early-twenty-something belly dancer who comes on to the scene and is already AMAZING, I realize that I'm a pretty mediocre belly dancer. I think some people are just naturally really, really gifted at it, and I'm just not one of them. You know the way there are performers that you sit through wondering if there's something good coming up next?? I think I might be one of those, and that gives me a very blah feeling. There are some things that I am fabulous and gifted at, and where I'm the one that people wait FOR instead of waiting THROUGH. I think I need to shift my time and energy and money toward those for a while.
Not that I'm "leaving the scene" or anything. I love designing and vending and making things for all you fabulous ladies, and seeing all the amazing dancing that you have to offer. And maybe I'll randomly get totally inspired to belly dance again sometime soon.
