Missing history
I admit, I wasn't the best student in the world. It's more likely I was one of the worst. But in spending a ridiculous amount of time researching history and watching documentaries over the last several months, I've got to say I'm kind of shocked at all the things that happened that was not taught in schools.Soviet probes on the moon way before the US?
And their landers on Venus?
And the freaky stuff they had in the vicinity of Mars? What????
Tesla's plan to deliver free energy to the masses... wirelessly... over a hundred years ago????
Nuclear detonations in space in the 60's?
Burning off large chunks of the ionosphere? What???
Big crazy gamma ray blast in the 60's that freaked out both sides of the iron curtain????
Knowledge is power, and I'm beginning to feel like we've all been raised to be powerless. Everything you know is wrong. Go learn stuff.

Wasteland
As the Phoenix lander touched down on the Martian surface and beamed back its first image, I started to imagine the kinds of sounds you might hear in an alien wasteland, on some faraway planet.www.electric-theatre.org/podca...nd.mp3

New Improved Weirdness
I don't think I'm the only other person noticing strange behaviour around here lately. Today seems extra special - I had a message sent to me that errored out saying I didn't have access privileges, then more site outage, followed by the whole message being missing. More outages. Then, 5 hours later, a couple active tribes I frequent show no activity whatsoever in those 5 hours. I posted something in one of them to ping my friends, only to see that the post doesn't show up on the Topics tab. Bonus weirdness? After doing some searching, it appears that today's the day for a transition to a new database cluster. I can't honestly tell you I know the specifics of what that means, but knowing that all the site data most likely lives in a database, any kind of transition will probably involve some weirdness. Cluster could mean all kinds of things. While cluster-fuck is generally bad, nut clusters are considered to be good by many. While I don't really like nut clusters myself, I do like explosions, and cluster bombs tend to make some awfully badass explosions. All in all, there's a lot of potential for goodness. Once all that's done, the site should be a lot more stable.... woohoo!
I also learned about the revised timetable for the Tribe upgrade. Currently they're looking to start beta testing the new site by the end of July, and then switch it over and roll it out to everyone during Burning Man. That makes a lot of sense to me, to get that part done when the site traffic is at its lowest point possible.
Despite the new improved weirdness, it looks like today's a pretty good day for Tribe. Keep your fingers crossed!
Hey look, it works!
The web site is finished, up, and running.www.electric-theatre.org

Sigh...
So, after going back and forth a few times we aren't going to be able to go camping this weekend. It was going to be tough to try and get there, between tires costing nearly twice what they used to and the high cost of gas our budget was stretched to say the least. But Pani's involved in a project at work that has a big deadline early next week, and taking time off would have only added loads of stress. As much as I love that location, and the people involved in making it happen, and the insanely kickass lineup... it just doesn't make sense to be out in the woods this weekend.Adding to that, Comcast canceled our internet service this week. Were we late on payments? No. Were we hacking the system or stealing service? No. What did we do? We used the service we were paying for. That's right. They promised high speed internet of up to whatever speed was offered, and we used it. At the end of May they called to warn us that we were considered heavy users based on April's usage. Seemed strange, since I've been a bit of an internet minimalist the last few months. But I was careful to limit the amount of video news stories I clicked on, and the number of YouTube videos and all the other things that I figured were racking up the downloads. It didn't matter though, since when they shut it off this week they said the decision was based on May usage (that's right, before they even warned us). Bastards... though in the end it'll be their loss. We'll be online, just giving our money to another company.
Ah well, that's enough out of me. Have a great weekend and all that...
Cheers

Minor Update
Despite the long time away from here, some things appear not to have changed. Is it me, or has Tribe been down more often than it's been up this week? Granted, I haven't been checking all that frequently, but half the time I click the wee button on the toolbar I just get an error message. I hear the powers that be are in the midst off re-writing Tribe's code, from top to bottom. Woohoo! Hopefully it will not only solve the service outage problems, but pave the way for cool new features.Repairs and re-works seem to be a recurring theme lately. Case in point, I've got to do some work on the van. The Great Abyss (as it's affectionately known) needs a couple new tires, some brake work, an oil change, and some general mucking about. I also want to get the security partition back up (goes behind the two seats in the front), so Pani and I can leave a few things in the van overnight with less of a risk of another break-in. Aiming to have everything done in time for Raindance, which should be a great time.
I'm also re-working Electric Theatre. The site is being re-done from the ground up, and a new domain's been registered. There's been more interest and traffic since I started the podcast a couple years back, and it seemed high time to get another top-level domain. The down side is that there's a lot of tedium involved (more than 60 episodes of the podcast), and it's melting my brain. But in the end it'll all be worth it, and the new workflow kicks ass.
With that in mind, heads up to those of you who are subscribed to Electric Theatre. The podcast address will be moving in the next few weeks. More on that later. In the meantime, consider this a preview of one of the new mixes I'll be adding after the big virtual move.

I haven't been on here in months. Be gentle with me, I need to get caught up. And Tribe seems to be down every other time I try to get on...Trilo

Feel it closing in,Feel it closing in,
The fear of whom I call,
Every time I call,
I feel it closing in,
I feel it closing in,
Day in, day out,
Day in, day out,
Day in, day out,
Day in, day out,
Day in, day out,
Day in, day out.
I feel it closing in,
As patterns seem to form.
I feel it cold and warm.
The shadows start to fall.
I feel it closing in,
I feel it closing in,
Day in, day out,
Day in, day out,
Day in, day out,
Day in, day out,
Day in, day out.
I'd have the world around,
To see just whatever happens,
Stood by the door alone,
And then it's fade away.
I see you fade away.
Don't ever fade away.
I need you here today.
Don't ever fade away.
Don't ever fade away.
Don't ever fade away.
Don't ever fade away.
Fade away. Fade away.
Fade away. Fade away.
Fade away. Fade away.
Fade away....
