OK heres the thing, I have a site like many people and wanna organize meta tags and do some SEO (Search engine optimization).
The problem is I have read so many mixed reviews about how to do this..
Are there any SEO+Meta Tags experts out there??
Also whats the difference between Alexa Rating and Google rating, are there other ratings...??

I wanna avoid working with some crap ripoff company...

stuff to help
i've read up on it in the past. i'm not sure how much has changed since then, but here's what i remember.

keywords! don't limit your keywords to what your site can provide to visitors. you may also want to include problems your visitors may be suffering from or outcomes they may want to achieve. don't necessarily assume that search engine users know exactly what they are looking for - for example, in the case of medical conditions, searchers are more likely to search on their symptoms rather than on remedies, and if all your keywords relate to vitamins and health, they may not reach your site.

search engine optimization is much more than the meta tags, though. it deals with all the content on your site. every scrap of code counts.

always put keywords and full descriptions in the "alt" parameter of your images. so, if you have a site about raising fireflies and a photo of the habitat, include a description (not too wordy, though) of the photo's contents, using your keywords from your meta tags where you can, as emphasis, in the "alt" parameter.

some people also recommend putting the same kind of stuff in the "title" attribute of anchor (link) tags. just don't make it obvious by listing out all your keywords over and over, because it will annoy your visitors - especially your sight-impaired visitors with devices that read out the pages to them.

hope it points you in the right direction. you know where to find me. ;)

My sites always have excellent ratings. I limit the keywords in the meta tags to what specifically is contained in each page or site. Do not duplicate keywords, because webbots are on to that. It is a good idea to group keywords in to phrases that are likely to be searched for your site. One of my sites (which is on a subject that has a lot of rivals) was the google "I'm feeling lucky" site for awhile while I was maintaining it. I haven't modified it in years, and it still comes up in the top 2-4 for that topic. One key to keeping your site relevant is making sure to have it linked to other sites (this is a huge part of the SEO drill) and making sure other sites link to it, also, updating frequently, as they look to see that you're still relevant. Good luck.
