Would it help knowing that I used to knit? I used to be pretty good at it. Unfortunately, I haven'y picked up the needles in a very long time. I do know of a knitting circle, but it's closed to the guys. I'm being very helpful am I?

I did a quick search on Tribe, and found this thread. tribes.tribe.net/56aca4a4-...6cc4584e4d

Not sure where in the Bay Area you are, but this might help! One of these days I'm going to learn how to knit more than straight rows. I make some nice scarves, ha.

Good luck!

Article Pract in Berkeley has some great classes and they give you enough different skills so you can tackle some books/patterns and continue learning. The people I've met there are really fun and they do a bit more knit nouveau (for lack of a better term) =:0) I've had a hard time finding any knitting circles in the Oakland/Berkeley area but I've heard there are several in SF and Marin.

city college continuing ed course
it's a six-week course. the teacher, tina, kind of uses the class as her social life and that got somewhat annoying, but bottom line i learned how to knit!

I can crochet, but not knit. How about a beginners knitting book? Those that are geared towards kids have easy to follow instructions. Maybe one day you will be able to knit some of these items: naughtyneedlesknitting.com

Knitting Lessons
So easy: look up The San Francisco Knitting Guild, or ImagiKnit (group & private lessons-very pleasant), or the Urban Knitting Studio, or the JCCSF, or Atelier Yarns, or City Knitters & Crocheters, or Knit one Chat two, or knitting.meetup.com/cities/u...rancisco/

Knitting is awesome! Did you know that Samurai warriors used to knit?

Check out www.yarnharlot.com

Look for fiber arts stores. As big and populace as the SF Bay area is, there has got to be a store with a knitting circle and classes. Also check out local coffee houses. I used to attend a knitting circle at a local coffee shop around the corner from my apt.

It might surprise you, but I learned knitting all alone, mainly with the help of this website: ‹ www.knittinghelp.com ›.
I've found videos much more helpful than pictures or descriptions in books.

I agee with Miedo. It is easy to learn on-line you can replay the videos over and over until you get it. I knit but occasionally I forget a certain stitch. On-line videos are the best

knitting
A really awesome woman from Denmark taught me to knit. I did teach myself to crocet out of a book though. My bible for knitting Q&A and just to refresh my memory sometimes is "Stich N Bitch" by Debbie Stoller. It has really easy to follow instructions, pictures, patterns, and it's funny. I'm sure you can find (or have already found) a class from one of those websites mentioned, but you could also try Craigslist.org. You could even post an ad that you want to learn and are looking for a knitting group.
