Carl Jung (1875-1961) wrote in 'The Portable Jung' (published: 1976):
"We are the culmination of the whole history of mankind ... we are also the disappointment of the hopes and expectations of the ages."
Please carry on ..... it gets (even) better:
"The person who has attained consciousness of the present is solitary. The modern person has at all times been so, for every step towards fuller consciousness removes a person further from their purely animal participation mystique with the herd, from submersion in a common unconsciousneess. Every step forwards means tearing oneself loose from the maternal womb of unconsciousness in which the mass dwells."
In the early 21st Century, there are now 100s of millions of awakening people. Perhaps, billions of awakening people. We are the people, and the time is now to be involved in a realistic and courageous manner in the world.

Quite true
As much as it does seem that people are generally less and less caring and the world is getting more and more dangerous every day, it also becomes evident that the consciousness of the sovereign individual is expanding rapidly and could very well be collectively ushering in a new age of light. It's going to get a hell of a lot worse before this awakening becomes socially visible, but such is the unfolding of our mysterious third-dimensional temporality. Great job quoting Jung, those were elements of him I hadn't even heard of yet, which is saying something!

Perhaps it will get worse before it gets better. As things become worse, more people will start to pay attention. On the other hand, maybe anything can happen. I think it's true to say most people in the world don't like the way the world is.
