about me
I'm a dancer! I'm really enjoying teaching dance. It makes me feel so good to make these ladies happy and see them blossom as dancers! And, for the fun of it!
While visiting Denver last fall, Eva Cernik invited us to a concert that was held at Berkeley Community Church near Regis U, featuring her husband's band. The ensemble included a talented lady playing a "Katan" (spelling approximate). The Katan appeared to be about the same diameter and depth as a snare drum and was played on a snare drum stand and had a batter head and no resonating head. She played it with her hands and appeared to be playing the fundamental rhythm, allowing the dumbek to solo freely. I spoke with her after the concert and she said that Souhail Kaspar taught her to play this instrument. I have not been able to find anything on this drum. Do any of you know where to purchase one or do you know of any instructional DVD's or books?
