the black show...
started out with 30 minutes of butho dance where i was in white body paint all over...then i had black tempura paint poured over me and the the audience was invited to paint on me with red tempura and after that i was wrapped in gauze after that i had clay plastered all over me and then was subjected to a lot of taunting and then the gauze was cut off and it was much like a rebirth...i stayed in the clay all night and read poetry covered in clay which was riveting to the audience...there were 3 of us who did this and it was quite an experience...the theme was that we went from being servants to the gods to becoming gods ourselves while the gods went from being gods to people...it was quite a night...i wish you all had been there to see it...it was disturbing and evocative and erotic at the same time...i love being an artist...it's exhilarating and quite provocative too...

wow, that sounds fabulous except the clay part. i'd go apeshit claustrophobic there.
do you butoh dance really? have you ever seen sankai juku? they are one of the few performance groups on earth that have reduced me to tears and worship. |

I think it was the best show ever. Bar none. Only blip was the out of place dance music in the middle. Otherwise near to flawless. I admit I was extremely skeptical about the format (more staged, a core of players), but it works. Much more polished and the theme carried through the night in a really successful, but non-cheesy way. Well - fucking - done. It's making me wanna throw my hat in the ring for a slot in the Red show. :)
