And all that Saz!!!

I got my Cumbus Saz, complete with extra strings and a bunch of picks. It sounds and looks awesome. I've been playing around with some songs and I'm making progress with Uskadara, Fire Dance and another one I don't know the name of. I still call it the Kirsten solo song, it goes "d-d-dee, d-d-dee, dee dee dee dee...." and so forth. Those are technical terms, you wouldn't understand.

I'm very excited to enter the world of middle eastern melody. Maqamworld.com is one of the most user-friendly sites I've ever seen.

With the long straight neck it looks alot like a banjo, which makes me want to figure out how to play Rainbow Connection on it, with minor scales and quarter tones and stuff.

If you do I could get a rainbow veil and pretend I'm awesome like Aneena. :)

woooo!
Welcome to my world :)

I think the song you're mentioning is called Shashkin (spelled saskin .. the s's have squiggles)..
It's also called Ya Ein Mawyatin but you'll have better luck googling for Shashkin or Saskin... :)

And if I'm right about that... that's pretty nuts based on your d-d-dee (which I was assuming wasn't some Carlos Mencia Middle Eastern song) :)

Join this tribe:
tribes.tribe.net/scamiddle...nmusicians

It's people in the SCA who play melody instruments... Melissa (clarinet) runs it and she's quite helpful...

Also.. learn D Hijaz
D, Eb, F#, G, A, Bb, C, D

So I found on Lark in the Morning, where I got my saz, a hard case for the saz, which costs like $160 or something crazy. The saz itself only cost about 180. So in consultation with Suzanne she says "...so, just buy another saz!" Which has a kind of logic to it that's odd and yet strangely compelling.

D D Dee
Could be Ayazein....?

I worked at Sam Goody for 11 years, I was forced to guess people's songs from technical descriptions:

"It's slow and it has Habibi in it..."

Thanks for joining my tribe.

Oh man...um....d d dee....

Is it the Turku song? Agri Dagindan Uctum?

If not you'll have to tell me where I soloed and what I was wearing and maybe I could figure it out.
