bourgoise economics

So I worked today. And there is this women who comes into the store fairly regularly who's name I can't remember but she is really nice. Anyways everytime she comes in she doesn't buy anything that I have ever noticed, but she always asks what is selling well and comments on the visual merchandising and what colors are in fashion and such. So she came in today and was asking about the denim and the browns (pants, shirts, skirts, etc. That's a really hot color for fall apparently) So we were chatting a little bit about what colors are hot right now and my curiosity finally won (It's a good thing I am not a cat) and I asked her what it is she does.
She is a fashion economist.
She looks at what companies say is selling well, what sales look like, and walks malls and stores to see what the stores look like (stock levels, merchandising, etc), talks to sales people (like me), looks at what colors are in, what styles are in, how companies are responding to the trends, how people are spending their money and where, pricing, (clearance, sales, etc), and on and on and on. And then all this has something to do with investing and the stock market. She says its like being an anthropologist. I can see that. Too bad its all about profit.
