The weeks are flying by...I've almost reached the end of the session and the beginning of my teaching sabbatical. It is an odd time. I feel sad about ending relationships with students who I've been working with for years. I'm also really ready to engage aggressively in my own training. I guess I feel scared too...fear of being forgotten....discounted. It is an interesting time...managing the departures and arrivals of students.....I'm looking forward to the hafla in December. Way less energy today but I'm starting to feel like I live in the studio! It's so comfortable and familial there. Class was very mental today. Suhaila's format can be so complicated. I didn't feel frustrated ... I think I have a much clearer sense of the format. So, even though I haven't made the mind-body connection yet ... I understand what she is teaching.

I can't believe how much energy I had on the drive up! Ideas for new choreography were just bursting out of me -- it was unbelievable! I love intensive study. I'm already dreading my return to work!

Today's workout was harder (to be expected) but I felt more "in the zone." We worked a great deal on the 3/4 shimmy. I've spent a a lot of time with 3/4 shimmy (too much in my view) but I've never really understood how it is achieved through engaging muscles rather than tossing the pelvis or us... read more
Well, I've survived DAY ONE of the Suhaila's Weeklong Workshop. I'm exhausted and exhilirated all at the same time. We started the day by introducing ourselves -- it was really lovely to meet all the dancers. I loved hearing about their personal journeys. We had a really challenging day physically -- and we were only working with ups and downs!!! I'm not sure I've ever perspired so much.
