As of August 2008 I have relocated to Montreal to pursue graduate studies at McGill University in the Kinesiology & PhysEd Department where I hope to continue my investigation on the nature & biomechanics of bellydance movements in particular and motor control & skill learning in genral. Current involvement in bellydance: I teach, perform, choreograph and produce shows and events full time in Vancouver. BA in Art & Culture Analysis, BSc in Kinesiology. Head of Venus Bellydance, based in Vancouver. Now offering classes at 4 community centres, with 6 instructors trained in the Venus Method (TM) of instruction.
27 years in bellydance (studying, performing). 18 years teaching bellydance. In addition to ongoing bellydance classes for beg to adv I offer courses in bellydance history/theory and Middle Eastern Dance Instructor Training.

One of the things to notice right away in Montreal is that many familiar things have a slightly different name.

The equivalent of Shopper's Drugmart here is Pharmaprix (which I enjoy in a low-brow way by pronouncing phoneticallY). Staples is called Bureau en Grosse (my translation: A Whole Lot of Office Stuff! And I get the distinct impression that the anglo term bellydance is sneered at and derided as being a low and disrespectful term for Arabic dance or Raks Sharqi. We have be... read more
