Today I had to lay off 12 people, or about 75% of my staff. I wasn't able to warn them. I wasn't able to tell them why they were chosen. I wasn't even able to commiserate with them very much as they had to be escorted out of the building immediately.
I was the one doing the dirty work but I was totally helpless to prevent or even sway the outcome. I felt invisible and intangible all day.
