Exploding mead!!
Thu, November 1, 2007 - 12:18 AMIf I've given you a bottle of mead in the last two months, it's time to drink it.
I just had a bottle blow.
Don't wait. You can chill it first, but open it today.
Cheers,
-bender

Thanks for the warning! We've still got ours, we'll drink it now,
As one who has recently suffered from an exploding-alcohol-related tragedy I can testify that you, dear reader, do NOT want this to happen to you! Drink it now! |

Was that an exploding alcoholic? That'd be messy I'm sure!

Exploding alcoholics are messy but lack the fragmentation-grenade aspect of exploding bottled beverages (c.f. the "It's wafer thin!" skit, in which the waiters were basically unharmed). We had a microbrew blow, and it left glass shards imbedded in the wooden cabinet walls deeply enough that it took pliers to get them out.
One benefit to immediately chilling the mead is that, if it does go off, your refrigerator will provide some shielding to anybody in the vicinity. |

bottling date
Hi Bender
When did you bottle this batch? |

I bottled this in late September. The bottle that blew was in the hall. It's fairly cool in this part of Irvine, but I suppose it's not cellar temperature.
My labels for my next batch are going to have a warning on them. Maybe the whole label will be a warning... |

Better hurry, it's not just hot, it's explosive!
I'm getting what I've got left in the fridge as quickly as I can make room. Anyone who wants to visit (and ignore the mess) is welcome to share a bottle with me. |
